    It seems pitiful that this had to be a commandment, because it should be a joy!

    Bethany, you see the Trinity at the baptism of Jesus. The Father speaks, then there is Jesus, as well as the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove; that's Father, Son, and Holy Spirit together.

    Tithing is not something a Christian does in order to receive from God,it is something we do to prove our devotion and our sense of worshiping Him as our Almighty King. It is not referring to money by itself. Tithing includes our love, worship and service to Him.
    Mark 12:17 states,And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's. We are to render to both Caesar
    and God but if there is a contradiction,God has supremacy in our lives and in our worship.

    I believe (and hope) that this indicates a period of economic stability at the time of a pre-tribulation rapture. An economic collapse will follow quickly. Famines precede the Son of Man arriving in a cloud ( Matthew 24:30, Mark 12:26, Luke 21:27) and of course the Battle of Armageddon which precedes the "Second Coming" will be a period of worldwide war, chaos, and wrath.

    It is his introduction to us, it shows he is unique above all, he is matchless in every way, and shares not his glory. It establishes him reasonably as God alone not part of a god dishonouring triune entity. He is our God, Creator, Statute giver worthy of us getting to know and worshipped: Jehovah God the Almighty. Revelation 15:3, John17:3, Isaiah 33:22, Mark 12:29, Isaiah 42:8, John 14:28.

    Has anyone given any thought that Jehovah and Jesus may be two different persons? These scriptures are not understandable if they both are just one. ( John 14:28) . . .If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going my way to the Father, because the Father is greater than I am. ( Mark 13:32) “Concerning that day or the hour nobody knows, neither the angels in heaven nor the Son, but the Father. ( Luke 22:42) . . .“Father, if you wish, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, let, not my will, but yours take place.” (If they were one how can they have two wills)? ( John 5:30) I cannot do a single thing of my own initiative; just as I hear, I judge; and the judgment that I render is righteous, because I seek, not my own will, but the will of him that sent me. (Two very distinct persons here). In fact, the Bible is peppered with reasoning that Jehovah and Jesus are two very distinct persons). ( Mark 12:28-30) . . .“Which commandment is first of all?”
    Verse 29, Jesus answered: “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel, Jehovah our God is one Jehovah,
    Verse 30, and you must love Jehovah your God with your whole heart and with your whole soul and with your whole mind and with your whole strength.’
    Removing Jehovah’s name from His book opened the door for the prophesied apostasy and it worked very well. Jehovah our Creator got lost in the doctrines of men.

    @Bethany and Bill,
    On verse 29, the 3 distinct persons of the godhead ( Acts 17:29, Romans 1:20, Colossians 2:9) do always act as one in unison, they never act separate from the other persons in the godhead. 3 in 1 person ( I John 5:7-8).
  • Elias on Mark 12 - 12 years ago
    The LORD just wants us to be pure from heart to Him i.e. Love Him with all our being even though in front of other we may be of no importance but as LORD saw the heart of widow and gave us parable through her. So, He will see our heart for Him and will give us importance. So do we children of Most High need favor from human....? If LORD is with us what else do we need? Praise The LORD.

    Sadly, believe it or not, this is happening in our churches today. And one of the problems, is that some of them in authority, can be just as wicked and deceitful as anyone else, but their sins are not uncovered like others. I am a Christian, and I cannot go into much detail, (for the sake of God and others), but I sinned against God and the authority, (leaders are very proud, and if you cross them in any way, they'll retaliate. I am not trying to speak evil against them, but what can I do in a situation , when my voice is not heard). I was publicly disciplined (verbal), in front of the whole congregation in 2008, and I am still trying to heal from it! I've repented to the Lord, and to them, but that doesn't seem good enough to them.
  • Shirley B Dean on Mark 12:42 - 12 years ago
    The detailed commentary is both informative and encouraging. It has changed my attitude about giving what in earthly terms amounts to a very small amount - comparable to the widow's small gift. It is also a reminder that as far as God is concerned, "it's a heart thing!" Thank you.
  • Timothy Wayne George on Mark 12 - 12 years ago
    Hear O Israel the Lord our God is one Lord. Thou shalt love the Lord with all thy heart, soul, mind, and strength. This is the first commandment, and the second is like unto it. Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. The whole law of God rest on these two commandments. Do not argue about the trinity. Just as water(h2O) has three states: Liquid, solid, and vapor. God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one Lord. Pay your taxes to the government, and give to the work of the Lord. Jesus said a new commandment I give unto you is to love one another as I have loved you. Jesus loved us enough to die on the Cross for our sins, and rose the third day for our justification. Jesus taught us how to love, and demonstrated at the same time. We know in part now, but when he that is perfect shall come, we will know as we are known.
    Remember our religion must exceed that of the scribes for us to get to heaven. True religion is to visit the fatherless, and the widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself from being apart of this worldly system. As Jesus said the widow gave all her living to the Lord. We must do the same to be accepted by him.

    my thought on mark 12: 9 is more a question. why is the he not capitalised in some versions? the punctuation is different. italicized him many places in my kjv leave me wondering who was him ment to be. i've heard this sermon preached and it didnt sit well with me. did the king james council have problems getting everyone to agree on this passage?
  • Bethany on Mark 12:29 - 13 years ago
    How can God be a Trinity then?
  • Bill on Mark 12 - 13 years ago
    "29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments [is], Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

    30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this [is] the first commandment."

    What i dont understand about these two scriptures is why Jesus does not say that these two scriptures apply to him? Is he not refering to himself as LORD?
  • Joe on Mark 12:9 - 13 years ago
    He will destroy the work of the husbandmen, the law was given to the jews, and the scribes and priests has the authority to impose and follow the law, but they are the one's breaking the law by adding into it. The priests and scribes refer here as the husbandmen, but they are not a good steward of the vineyard of God and it was given by God to someone else, that is why the center of worship is no longer in Jerusalem, or any places but they that want to worship must worship God in Spirit and in truth.

    Joe: If you have read the Bible you surely would have picked the condradiction's up. However if you haven't then I will enlighten you. Let me just say that the references that I'm about to quote may not be in your Bible as there are many Bibles available on the market that are used by different Christian sects each claiming that their Bible is translated as the word of God.The references I will quote comes from the Tyndale Bible.
    Jeremiah 8:8
    "How can you say we are wise because we have the the word of the Lord, when your teaches have twisted it by writing Lies"
    The Condradiction's In the Bible start from;
    In 2 Samuels 8:4 it reads
    "David captured 1700 charioteers and 20,000 foot solders, he crippled all the chariots except enough for 100 chariots".
    Now read
    1 Chronicles 18:4
    "David captured 1000 chariots, 7000 charioteers and 20,000 foot solders. He crippled all the chariots horses except for 100 chariots".
    Other examples are;
    2 Samuels 8:9-10
    1 Chronicles 18:9-10

    2 Kings 8:26
    2 Chronicles 22:2

    2 Samuels 6:23
    2 Samuels 21:8

    Genisis 6:3
    Genisis 9:29

    John 5:37
    John 14:9

    John 5:31
    John 8:14
    You see Jo All doctrines of modern Christianity are made by man. They are definitely not quotes from the bible For example;
    The Trinity, Divine Son ship Of Jesus Christ, Original sin and atonement.
    Jesus as he says in
    John 8:28 "I do nothing of myself"
    John 14:28 "My father is greater than I"
    Mark 12:29 "The Lord is ONE lord"
    Mark 13:32 "No one knows the day or hour when these things will happen not even the angles in heaven or the SON himself, ONLY THE FATHER KNOWS"
    The word Trinity is not Biblical nor is it used in any Bibles or Bible dictionaries. Trinity was never specifically mentioned by Jesus. The formation of the word "Trinity"was presented by Athenasius, an Egyptian Deacon from Alexandria and was accepted by the council of Nicea more than three centuries after Jesus had departed from this earth.
    Other such "Man made" decisions of the council contributed to the declaration of the Roman Sunday as the Christian Sabbath, and the establishment of December 25th as Jesus birthday. This was done in order to have a celebration that occurred on the same day as the birthday of the pagan gods such as Nimrod (Babylon god) Krishna, (Hindus god), Mithra (Greek god) and Dionysius (Bacchus of greece)who is named the only begotten son of Jupiter and was born of the virgin mother Demeter, on the 25th of December. As you can see the celebration of the birth of Jesus is clearly an idea of pagan decent. As clear as we can read in black and white the Bible forbids even the decoration of christmas trees;
    Jeremiah 10:3-4 "Their ways are fertile and foolish. They cut down a tree and a craftsman carves an idol". "They decorate it with gold and silver and than fasten it securely with hammer and nails so it won't fall over".
    The conclusions to my recent research on religion is that we so called true Christians are not even close to abiding by Gods laws, far from it. We are such Hippocrates.
    I hope this helps Jo, May God give you blessings

    Felis, A lot of words we use in this Millennium are not written in the Bible, your right, but the word 'Trinity' still originated from Athenasius, which in the days of his order had to be approved by the council of Nicea, hence the word 'Trinity' was born. If you look at
    Jeremiah 8:8
    Jeremiah says"How can you say we are wise because we have the word of the Lord, when your teaches have twisted it by writing lies."
    As you say the word 'Trinity' is used to describe 'The Father, the Son and the holy Spirit' It is also described in
    1 John 5:7 as
    "So we have these three witnesses"* The spirit, the water and the blood, and all three agree’.
    I do know the verse you quoted
    Matt 28:18
    "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth".
    He is speaking of two, there is no mention of 3.
    The path of Jesus was miraculous and he did some wonderful miracles, this we can not deny.
    But Jesus himself said;
    Mathew 15:8-9
    “ But in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandment of men.”
    John 5:37
    ‘And the father who sent me has testified about me himself. You have never heard his voice or seen him face to face’.
    John 8:28
    ‘I do nothing of myself’.
    John 14:28
    ‘My Father is greater than I’.
    Mark 12:29
    ‘The Lord God is one Lord’.
    In summary;
    Its in my hands to know the truth of our religion. So I will continue to research for the truth
