Part 16.

Rocky Soil

The second type is rocky ground. Notice this:

But he that received the seed in stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and immediately with joy receiveth it; yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, immediately he is offended. ( Matthew 13:20, 21)

These are the rocky-ground hearers. The devil got the first type, the flesh gets these. These folk are opposite from deep-freeze folk. These are the emotional type - with joy they receive the Word. How excited they become! They are greatly moved, they shed tears, they have strong feelings. I call these the Alka-Seltzer type. They are effervescent; they bubble up when they hear the Word. But, believe me, after it is all gone they are dead.

Years ago, while sitting in the observation coach of a train coming out of Fort Worth, Texas, I saw somebody drop off a newspaper. When the rear of the train went by, that paper fluttered up and, oh, how it kicked up a fuss. As we moved on down the track I saw it settling down and finally going dead. As I looked at it, the thought came to me that it is like a lot of church members I know. When something special comes along they become excited and enthusiastic. But when it comes down to the real study of the Word of God they are dead. They are rocky-ground hearers.

Part 15.

Wayside Soil

Some seed fell by the wayside:

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the wayside. ( Matthew 13:19)

None of these who hear the Word are Christians - they are merely professors. The birds take the seed away. The birds by the way, as interpreted in another parable, represent the devil. The evil one takes away the seed. This happens to church members who are only professing Christians. They hear the Word, but it is not with the hearing of faith. For them the Word is not mixed with faith at all. They have a formal faith. They nod their heads in agreement, but to them Christianity is a sideline, it is a sideshow. They come to church once on Sunday, and that ends it for the week as far as they are concerned. I like to speak of these as the "deep-freeze" folk. The seed will be killed in the deep-freeze. These are the folk who hear it, hear it for years - then finally fall off into some cult or ism.

A man said to me when I was a pastor, "Don't get the idea that your church turns out one hundred percent members. I know one who is in a certain cult - he knocked at my door the other day." I bow my head in shame; I'm afraid that is true. Although the seed that I sow is good seed, it does fall on some wayside soil.

Part 10.

In the very next chapter He sends them forth. Where does He send the laborers and what does He have them preach? He sends them to the lost sheep of the house of Israel, saying, "Go not to the Gentiles," and He instructs them to tell the nation of Israel that the King is here. That was their message. To what does the harvest refer? It refers to judgment and to the end of the age. That is the picture. An age begins by God sowing seed; it ends by the harvest of both good and bad.

Besides the parable of the sower, we have another parable in Matthew 13 in which our Lord speaks along this very same line of harvest and judgment. He says concerning the wheat and tares:

Let both grow together until the harvest; and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn. ( Matthew 13:30)

This is the end of the age, you see. Then notice verse 39:

The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the age.

At the end of the age comes harvest time. That is one reason I think it is valid to say that we are harvesting today - we are gleaning in the corners because we are at the end of an age. But let us understand one thing: We must sow before we can have a harvest. That is the reason I am insisting that our scriptural terms be accurate. Harvesting refers to judgment and the end of an age.

Notice another verse of Scripture dealing with harvest. It is a picture of the battle of Armageddon, one of the most frightful pictures in the Bible:

And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to him that sat on the cloud, Thrust in thy sickle, and reap; for the time is come for thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe. ( Revelation 14:15)

Part 9

Some Seed.

And he spoke many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow. ( Matthew 13:3)

He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man. ( Matthew 13:37)

A Sower went forth to sow, and that Sower is the Son of man. I repeat this because it is so important. It defines the present-day activity of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is His contemporary work - sowing seed, sowing the Word of God in the world.

In this day He is rejected as King and as Savior. Nonetheless, He is not defeated. The kingdom is coming, and while the kingdom is in abeyance He is dressed as a farmer sowing seed. His plans have not been interrupted. Many speak of the postponed kingdom. Personally, I do not like that expression because I do not think He has postponed anything. This thing is running according to His plan. It was not postponed from His viewpoint - it may be from our viewpoint, but not from His. Regardless of that, this is the day for sowing seed.

Now we do need to make a distinction here. I do not want to quibble nor split hairs, but follow me for a moment. The preaching of the Word is commonly called the harvest. Yet harvest time is not the picture for today; the picture for today is sowing time. Somebody says, "But didn't Jesus say, 'Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest'?" Yes, He did, but do you know in what connection He said it? It is well to put Scripture where it belongs. Notice Matthew 9:36-38:

But when he saw the multitudes, he was moved with compassion on them, because they were faint, and were scattered abroad, as sheep having no shepherd. Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few. Pray ye, therefore, the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest.

Part 8

What is Christ doing today? Oh, I know, the saints like to say that He ascended to heaven and is sitting at God's right hand, but if you interpret that to mean that He is doing nothing, you miss it. He said, "My Father worketh hitherto, and I work" ( John 5:17). He is busy today. But what is He doing? He is the King, but He has been rejected. And since He has been rejected He has taken off His crown, He has put it to the side. He has taken off His royal robe and has put on the clothes of a farmer. He is sowing seed in the world today. Sowing seed is His business.

Now let's define that in spiritual terms. Let's translate it from agriculture to theology. What is He sowing? What is this seed that our Lord is sowing in the world? We do not have to guess. In Matthew 13:19 we read, "When any one heareth the word of the kingdom." What, then, is the seed? It is the Word. The Bible that I hold in my hand is the seed. And there is life in it. It is just as potent as any seed planted in the ground. The Word of God is seed.

What is the field where the seed is being sown? Matthew 13:38 gives the answer: "The field is the world." So now we have the sower identified, we have the seed identified, and we have the field identified. This is the picture of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Sower, taking the Word of God and sowing it in the world. That is His business today.

Again I want to remind you that the field is not the church, it is Christendom. The field is the world today.

Part 7.

In these parables, the Lord Jesus reached out in life and chose the simplest stories to illustrate the sublimest truths. They are tremendous when you begin to look at them. He took the commonplace to set forth the remarkable. He took the ordinary to reveal the extraordinary. He reached out into the natural in order to give truth concerning the supernatural. He employed the parable, for which the simplest definition still holds good - an earthly story with a heavenly meaning. When our Lord began His parable by saying, "Behold, a sower went forth to sow," He was picturing one of the most familiar sights in Palestine. They had seen it hundreds of times. And it is a familiar sight in America today. All the way from Pocatello, Idaho, to Pensacola, Florida, they are sowing seed in the spring of the year. All the way from Chicago, Illinois, to Rancho Cucamonga, California, sowers are going forth to sow. All the way from Minneapolis, Minnesota, to Muleshoe, Texas, sowing is a familiar sight. "Behold, a sower went forth to sow" - you can't get anything more familiar than that to illustrate spiritual truth.

Now the interpretation of this parable is very simple. Only a theological professor could miss it! Ordinary folk such as you and I do not see a lot of complication. It is very simple because Christ gave us the interpretation. He has identified each part and phase of this parable.

First of all, the sower. Who is he? Let's first identify him since he happens to be central in the parable. In Matthew 13:37 where our Lord interpreted the parable of the wheat and tares, we read: "He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man." By this we know that He, Himself, the one who spoke the parable, is the sower. This defines the work of the Lord Jesus Christ with reference to the world today.

Part 2.

The punctuation following the title may look strange to you, but it tells the story of this parable. In fact, it divides the parable into three points, which we will consider. First, SOME SEED. This is merely a statement - the parable is about some seed. Secondly, we have SOME SEED? There is a question about what the seed will produce because of the variableness of the soil. What will happen to the seed that is sown? Thirdly, SOME SEED! The exclamation point indicates the tremendous power in the seed - what it will do when it falls on good soil.

The Gospel of Matthew is very important. It is the open door to the Bible. If you are to understand the Bible, the Gospel of Matthew is the entrance that leads to it. It is not only a door, it is a swinging door. It swings back into the Old Testament, gathering up more prophecies than does any of the other Gospel records, and then it swings on into the New Testament farther than any other Gospel, for it is Matthew alone that mentions the church.

The thirteenth chapter of Matthew is the hinge on which the door swings. In this chapter are several parables. The parable of the sower, with its interpretation, is the first parable and one of two that the Lord Jesus Christ interpreted. Therefore this parable is the key to the thirteenth chapter. And if it is the key to the thirteenth chapter which is the hinge, and the door is the Gospel of Matthew, you can see that the parable of the sower is the key to the understanding of the Bible! That is how important it really is.

After our Lord gave the parable, He said to His disciples, "It is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven" ( Matthew 13:11).

Now we want to look at this parable that deals, as do all of them in Matthew 13, with the subject of the kingdom of heaven.

Leaven in the Bible always represents evil and corruption.

Leviticus 23:17.

Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with LEAVEN; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.

Matthew 13:31-33.

Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field:

Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof.

Another parable spake he unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto LEAVEN, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was LEAVENED.

In the OT leaven was a type of sin, evil, or corruption. When the two angels visited Lot in Sodom they were invited to eat "unleavened bread" ( Gen. 19:3). In connection with Israel's redemption from Egypt they were to eat the Passover with "unleavened bread" ( Ex. 12:8). Leaven was to be excluded from all blood offerings and sacrificial offerings made by fire.

In Leviticus 7:13 the leaven is present in the offering because sin is still present in the offerer! Leaven was permitted in the two wave loaves of Leviticus 23:17 because they represent two classes, the Jew and Gentile who are now made one in Christ. Although saved, the old nature is still present. When bread typifies Christ, it is unleavened; when bread typifies man, it is always leavened.

Jesus warned the disciples to "beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees" ( Matthew 16:6; and Luke 12:1).

As for the bible translations, I prefer the king James version.

However I don't believe Gods message don't depend on mans ability to "hear" and unlock the treasures with his intellectual insight.

I believe pride, hinders spiritual growth as well as partiality more do than bible translations.

God arm is not to short to where he would have a translation error thwart his plans.

You can pull up an outline or lesson on any book in the Bible and display it but yet don't even fully understand what is being displayed.

You should seek prayer regarding Pastoring a Church.

If God called one to preach or teach, He WILL teach. He will not be able to get away.

We layman have a responsibility with this treasure as well

What about the tares in the Church?

Do we dispose of them like a bad translation? The Lord says no. Matthew 13:28-30.

What about building one another up in love? How do we do that?

By knowingly lying to them? Or truth?

How about false praises?

We are sold on great performances, great long intellectual speeches and a carnal display.

Our flesh is attracted to these things.

We coexist in a worldly culture that influence our Christian walk.

You see NOT speaking the truth you can avoid persecution.

I would rather have someone rebuke me "with correct scripture references" than to falsely lift me up.

The pastors and teachers, by the Spirit of God is to do their part (Minister to the sheep). Reception and spiritual growth depends on the condition of the believers heart.

Predestination part 3. (eternal fate heaven or hell).

When we are "conformed to the image of His Son" ( Romans 8:29) we see the concept of predestination and "first fruits" there; which would foreshadow a Rapture/Resurrection event. Another way to put it is that those who read the Beatitudes on a surface level or human level of understanding see a humanitarian sort of principle of for instance; how to be "peacemakers"; feed the poor; etc. ANYONE; even an atheist can do such things but it is only the Holiness of God through the Spirit after true conversion that gives us the reality of that in our souls. No amount of penance; self sacrifice or other actions can give us more of a desire for God's Holiness if it doesn't already exist in someone's soul! Nonetheless "faith without works is dead." ( James 2:17). Poducing fruit is essential for a true believer as we see with the Parable of the Sower and the seed.

There are also various levels of suffering in hell as well as rewards in heaven. We see this in Matthew 11:20-24 with several cities in mind. Also we see this in Matthew 13:8 as to the 30 fold and 100 fold producers (also see 1 Cor. 15:41).

I am fairly dogmatic as to those before the age of accountability not being punished for their sin NATURE since they haven't acted out the sin knowing that they are rebels against God. When we look at Romans 7:9-11; we understand this concept; and when we see the story of David and his son who died ( 2 Samuel 12:23) we see evidence of this amongst other places ( Psalm 8:2 for example).

Another way of looking at is is the verse "we will not have this man to rule over us." ( Luke 19:14). This is what all say who go against the Man who God has given all authority to in heaven and earth ( Matt. 28:18). If we disbelieve the living Word ( Heb. 4:12 etal) then we reject His authority and preservation as well as 2 Timothy 3:16 which states all scripture is breathed of God..

Or; Luke 10:16 rejecting you is rejecting me.

Hello William. My understanding is that Joseph & Mary were married prior to Jesus' Birth. If I'm reading Matthew 1:24,25 correctly: "Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS"; it seems that after Joseph had settled in his heart that Mary was not unfaithful during their betrothal period, he then married her ("took unto him his wife"), did not demand his conjugal rights ("knew her not"), but abstained until the promised Messiah Babe would be born. Of course, after this Divine Birth, Joseph & Mary went on to have other children ( Matthew 13:55,56).

alex1939...Yes Alberto good observation thus there are 2 moring stars the wheat and the Tares...Jesus sows the wheat the H.G. the sons of God that real day star that Jesus sows in our hearts... Matthew 13:26...But Jesus tells us that while men slept satan came and sowed Tares in with the Wheat...And Jesus said they had to grow together till the Harvest...Thus we become 2 ppl, 2 stars But 1 of these stars falls from heaven in luke 10:18...One is taken and one is left...The Wheat and the Tares make us 2 ppl...( dos persona son nosotros )...We are involved in a warfare b/c of these 2 seeds the Wheat and the Tares...Its Kingdom against Kingdom...There is war in Heaven...John saw war in heaven meaning in our minds as this war rages in our hearts and minds.

Sorry but I made a mistake in answering your question.

I gave you the rapture when your question was "How will our LORD God remove the evil this time which has more than likely repented(grieved) Him?"

The rapture is when Christ comes for his Church. as mentioned here in

1 Thessalonians 4:16-17. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

We will be removed from the wrath.

The wrath of God comes upon all the Inhabitants of the Earth.

Isaiah 24:1-23.

Isaiah 34:1-17.

Zephaniah 1:14-18

Many other references.

NOTE: God's children is never called Inhabitants of the earth.

But we are not appointed to wrath.

1 Thessalonians 5:1-9.

Now as far as removal of evil, this will happen following the rapture and the 70th week of Daniel. "7 years tribulation period" with the last 3 and a half being the great tribulation.

Note: "There will be people getting saved during this period "

Satan will be chained a thousand years and Christ will rule here on earth with a rod of Iron sitting on David's Throne. This is the Millennium kingdom.

Then the devil will be loosed and deceive the Nations again.

Then comes the wrath of God and the removal of Evil as you asked.

This is what's mentioned in Matthew 13:36-43.

In Matthew 13:41 notice that the unrighteous is gathered. The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;

This Parallels with

Matthew 24:36-51.

These are taking away for judgment.

No removal of saints/Rapture here in these verses! It's the removal of the unrighteous.

The rapture It has already happened.

Jesus spoke of many parables concerning this topic. One of them was when the Son of God sowed a field with good seed, and the devil came and inter-sowed his bad seed in the same field (the earth throughout the ages). The wheat and the tares grew up. Jesus said that the tares were not to be weeded out before harvest because some of the wheat would inevitably be plucked out before it was ready to be reaped. Then Jesus said that both will grow together until the angels come to harvest the souls of the Kingdom of God from the souls of the kingdom of the devil. This will happen at the end of the age. The tares will be harvested and gathered out of His (God's) Kingdom and thrown into the fire. Then the righteous souls will shine forth as the sun in the Father's kingdom. See Matthew 13:36-43.

So, from this parable that Jesus explained to the disciples. Evil, the devil and his angels, and those who are wicked and unsaved will continue to be in the world with believers until the end when Jesus returns.

It does seem "pre-destination" has a good case. That being said, there was a time when I was an unbeliever/did not know the truth. It is my belief that those who belong to God will be given the revelation of the truth, that Jesus Christ is The Son of God, no matter what at some point in their lives. Whether that revelation be given at the midpoint of someones life, or on their deathbed as the thief on the cross.

While you didn't directly address the questions, your chosen response indicates you might believe the New Testament isn't literal and are just parables to you, is that correct? You quoted the old testament suggesting that you might think that's literal, however. Do you mind sharing how you came to this belief?

Maybe its time to move on. I would never tolerate such continual criticism- it's unhealthy for someone to continually hear that. And each time it continues unchecked it probably just reinforces her own bad behavior. Respect is very important, including respect as the Bible teaches. If it was a trusting healthy relationship you could read and discuss a verse like 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and ask how each is doing in applying it and how each person would know if you're following these scriptures or not.

If there was potential I think you would have referred to her as your partner, companion, girlfriend, love, wife, but you referred to her as just a woman you are "dealing with." That doesn't sound like you're very fond of her.

Hello . Have you told her how you feel when she does this ? If you don't tell her that she is hurting your feelings then she may not realise that she is doing so . I think that the most important thing in any relationship is communication . If you can't have honest and open conversation with the people you love and who love you , then who can you talk to ? Try letting her know how it makes you feel when she does this , no one is perfect , we all have flaws and failings , when you really love some one you take them as they are , flaws and all . I hope you to can sort this out and grow closer to each other and to your Saviour Jesus Christ .

I have a women who I been dealing with for three years

And she is ok with pointing out my flaws and condemned me but when I show her her flaws just the same she gets upset and I don't.
