J.W. - "turn the hearts of the disobedient to the just." That's an interesting way to put it. Another is - the hearts of the fathers - the believing Jews - to the children - the hungry Gentiles. And this is what happened with Peter and then Paul. Their ministry took them from the believing Jews to the Gentiles. The Jews were the 'fathers' in that they heard first, then they produced children.

Dear Vuiswa kganathe; Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God? Have you been made to feel guilty because of sins and things you've done wrong; and have prayed to God in Jesus' name with repentance? Have you resolved in your heart to from now on turn your back on your old ways and the world, to follow Jesus?

    v. 18 - "Devil here we stand and here we will fight! We will fight in the pulpit, in the aisles, at the altars, in the Sun. schools, in the hallways, in the parking lots, in our homes, at the market, on the street, and on printed page." Let's fight, in Jesus name, for our sons and daughters, and their children ................

Jesus asked, but whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, that art the Christ,The Son of The living God. and Jesus answered and said unto him, blessed art thou Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood have not revealed it onto thee but My Father which is in heaven. Matthew 16:15-17

This is a very Clear Indication how blind man made religion is to the Things Of God. Purely because man's sinful fleshly desires continuously seek after these things with ungodly vigor. The other thing that stands out also is, the Lord speaks favor upon the Righteous, who in the Broad Spectrum of God's Will, MUST Preach Repentance and Salvation to Sinners, while there is yet time.

It seems as if Jesus was warning the disciples of the external pressure of "other doctrines" that seek to infiltrate the Church. The church is made pure by God through Christ and we as Christians are the custodians of it. If we are not vigilant and alert, we cannot maintain the purity and unity of the Church.

    Verses 13-17
There are many people who profess to know Jesus. But do we truly know who Jesus is? Or we also know Him like the people in Jesus's days, He is one of those influential people? We must know the Lord experientially. He says if we obey His commandments He will manifest Himself onto us. Our knowledge of Him is our strength, security and peace. Holy Ghost, do for us like Peter.

Response to Maria's question- Many thought John the Baptist was Jesus because he was the cousin of Jesus, born 6 months prior to Jesus.(Read Luke1:17) Upon the impending birth of John the Baptist, an angel of the Lord told his father Zacharias (of his son) "He shall go before Jesus in the spirit and power of Elias (Greek for Elijah) so that...he could turn the hearts of the disobedient to the just

  • Maria Morales on Matthew 16 - 8 years ago
Why would the people think Jesus was John the Baptist, Elias, or one of the prophets? Could it be that spiirits come back like Elijah through John the Baptist?
  • BSP on Matthew 16 - 8 years ago
In verse 22 Jesus had just stated the divine will so he had to correct Peter and the other disciples. Jesus life was to be one of self-sacrifice and not of self-gratification.

Vs.28 tells of the death of Stephen the first martyr to give His Life sharing the Gospel. While he was being stoned he looked up and saw the glory of God and Jesus standing by the right hand of God. Jesus was refering to his death. This event is in the book of Acts.
  • Lungo on Matthew 16 - 8 years ago
As for verse 28 it tells us that we won't be completely died when Jesus shall come again...some will be found still living and those who shall be found righteous shall never test death ........that's my view through the spirit of the living God.......Amen

Matthew 16 teaches us love, trust and obedience. Self must be completely sacrificed as we give of ourselves as God leads us through His love, the guidance and love of Jesus Christ.

Anyone who studies scripture and concludes that the Son of man and antichrist are the same is very disturbed or under demonic deception. I pray to my heavenly Father, in Christ Jesus, asking God to have mercy on your soul and to heal you and save YOU according to His will. Amen Matthew 12:32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew 13:37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? Matthew 18:11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. Matthew 26:24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Luke 22:48 But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?

We give OUR lives to God of our own free will and trust He is in control of OUR lives.God gives us all free will to choose. When we dedicate our lives,or the lives of our loved ones to God,we are trusting He knows what is best 4 them. These people that ask that,r they Christians?Have they asked God to watch over their loved ones?If not, they have no right to accuse God.If they are, then trust God.
  • David on Matthew 16 - 9 years ago
Dear Christine: If you will look at more than just Matthew 16, you will see The Lord Jesus Christ came to save all - 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

Children are never condemned to hell. Salvation is a free gift for all who choose it.
  • Christine on Matthew 16 - 9 years ago
I've had people come against me with this question? How come Jesus saved you, and not others? (specially when a little one dies ) I don't have the answer and I've been searching for what to say. Please help if you can!
  • Jennife on Matthew 16 - 9 years ago
This Chapter is powerful it really pushes you to make sure you do not follow mans way and compare the difference between pharisees and sadduces in hopes of not being as they are hypocritical and evil. Also I am thankful for the keys of the Kingdom ,self denial and the fact that Christ is returning back to earth and will reward everyone according to their works. Witnessing more is what I will do
  • Nene on Acts 2 - 9 years ago
Yes Mr. Robey read Matthew 16:18-19 where Jesus gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven and in Acts 2:37-47 you will see Peter in the mist when the people asked what must they do to be saved then Peter replied to them and The Lord added to the CHURCH daily such as should be saved, meaning follow the instructions that Jesus left with Peter for us to obey until the end. God Bless You...
  • Divine Michael (Evangelist) on Zechariah 1:16 - 9 years ago
As put forward recently by different scholars of the greatest book ever, man inceasant search on the scriptures enlighten man and gives a better understanding when the holy spirit is leading. The idea of many founders of churches today is a clear drifting away from the original pattern of the great Jehovah. The church of christ was to begin at Jerusalem according to this passage Zech. 1:16, isaiah 2:1 and fulfilled in Act chapter 2, the mixed interpretation of this context is unideal and consequencies are never symbolical, they are real. As such, any denomination that does not have her origin traced back to Jerusalem, and her Dogma in line with the apostolic approved examples, is never a CHURH OF CHRIST. Matthew 16:18 Romans 16:16 .
