    @Omae Francis,
    About the subject of divorce, I do not believe in divorce, but you need to read 1 Corinthians 7 before you determine that adultery is the only grounds given for biblical divorce. To Matthew regarding forgiveness and judgment, we all would like to have opportunity to take back hurts, mistakes, pain, suffering we have caused others, but god has provided ways to either rectify matters with others ( Matthew 5:23,24; 1 Corinthians 6) or take advantage of I John 1:9. If you are saved than you need to forgive others and ask God to forgive you for the trespasses you have caused others and your trespasses against God. Keep your trespass list very short. Matthew 18:18. The judgment seat of Christ is for saved people and will only be accountable for your life after you received Christ as saviour until death or rapture II Corinthians 5:10, Romans 14:10. Though we may suffer consequences in the flesh from our previous sins, but spiritually God does not remember our life before salvation. Unsaved will come before the white throne judgment for their rejection of Jesus as saviour and be sentenced to eternal damnation. The unbelievers have much bigger problems.

    Verse 20 is simply a statement from Jesus that where there are 2 or 3 or more people come together in his name, then you have a church service.
  • Jay on Matthew 18 - 11 years ago
    About verse 18- Jesus just completed quoting scriptures about having a trespass with a brother and then quotes verse 18 which is the conclusion of the previous verses. Follow Matthew 5:23, 24. If a brother or sister in Christ does not attempt to set things right here on earth (a trespass), then they will account for this non forgiveness at the judgment seat of Christ, which takes place between the rapture of the church and second advent.

    I do not have all the answers about the scriptures, but it is amazing to me, how people can make the scriptures much more difficult than God intended. Always take the scriptures literal unless you cannot and then it is figurative. Always rightly divide the word of truth or it will divide you, II Timothy 2:15.

    First of all, we must believe He is who He says He is and can do wonders, miracles if you will. Only those of us who have that belief will be able to sit at his counsel and grow spiritually. I believe, it was John chapter 6, that Jesus announced Himself as the Bread of Life which caused many to leave due to unbelief. When we gather together we are doing it for whatever in-feeling learning, healing, etc. we can get from Him. But we must not be halfhearted when we do not get what we want. GOD knows our heart (as to what we can handle). He talked about the child prior to this statement.

    Though we are saved as individuals but Matthew 18:18-20 means there is strength in numbers and togetherness.

    Matthew 18:19 Again I say unto you, That IF TWO of you SHALL agree on earth as touching ANY thing that they SHALL ask, IT SHALL BE DONE for them of my Father which is in heaven.
    I need someone to agree with me for a healing of my back, pelvis, and sciatic nerve. I believe God is the same yesterday, today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 Therefore, he is still ALL powerful and anything is possible with God. He has touched and healed many throughout the Bible, including the woman with the issue of blood, so it is but a little thing for him to touch and heal me. Am I failing to touch the helm of his garment? Do I know how? Sometimes it is hard for me to accept, “He Did It All For ME” I am asking that you will in faith agree with me touching this one thing (Physical & Spiritual Healing). Thanks, and God Bless You!!!

    I think that we should meditate on what Lord Jesus says here in Matthew 18:20 and see what the Holy Spirit may be saying to us all.

    A man close to me insulted me a few days ago. An anger came over me and he was afraid of me. Some time after that I felt very bad and I think he also. How many times we ought to forgive each other. As Jesus said not seven times but seventy times seven. He has answer for everything. God bless you all.

    I think a lot of people take this text out of context. It is often quoted when there are just a few in a service or bible study. But Jesus is in the midst if I were by my self in His name. Jesus had a reason for what He said. Read the text that lead up to that statement. Although it is true that Jesus is in the midst regardless of the size of the gathering, it seems the verse is only used when there are only a few, which I believe is not the only time to use the verse.

    Unless Jesus is speaking in parables, we must of necessity take His words at face value. If we cannot, then He is being purposely deceptive, and disingenuous. Jesus said what He meant, and meant what He said. "If the shoe fits" we got to wear it!
  • Robert L Tucker on Matthew 18 - 13 years ago
    Even if the meaning of v.18 was to allow or disallow as per the directives of Heaven; we are so far removed from the spiritual position we were to occupy, that we have no idea what the desires of Heaven are. We cannot allow nor disallow anything without the Holy Spirit having complete control; which He does in very few.

    My attention is drawn to the word "kingdom" rather than heaven itself. The kingdom of a government is the domain or realm that is subject to - and benefits from its supremacy. Therefore, one could be "delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the kingdom (of heaven)[Col.1:13]" while still living in this life. Isn't Jesus saying, "To be truly great, one must be converted in attitude, from this world's manner, to relying on Him, like a little child relies on its parents. The adult ego tends to hinder true greatness.

    This is a "promise" of GOD for those who believe in him and accepted "Jesus as their Lord & Savior," can ask and receive, but you MUST 'believe' Jesus died and rose again on the 3rd day...to fulfill the promise. His word is instruction for us to follow, they will never return unvoid, just trust in him and abide in his word and you are on your way to "abundant" living. Thats all we have to do, his word is true!!!
