Jesus is the light of the world!
  • Trent on Matthew 1:1 - 13 years ago
The name Iesus is simply translated to Jesus in our modern English. Iesus is more of a Latin word and the English language used more Latin words back in 1611.

This cleary states God with us in the flesh is Jesus Christ. How can anyone deny the diety of Christ the Son of the only God?
  • Trevor on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
i think matthew chapter 1 is a clear description that the family tree of Jesus consisted of people that were imperfect yet zealous after God and finally Jesus born in obscurity but in no way insignificant.May His name be praised forever.amen

If you have any uncertainty who Jesus is, go to the old city of Jerusalem Israel. Inter through the Damascus gate, don’t be haste, pray as you go. Seek the Lard and the Lord will find you.

the KING JAMES BIBLE is truly GODS word given to us from his disiples and man has tryied to move, has changed, rewrote, and tryied to confuse people by using others to lead them astray inmany different ways and churches. you must know that man cannot live on bread alone, they must have JESUS in their everyday life as their leader, guide, savior, and their rock and until you submit to him you will be in confusion for eternity, and one day every knee will bow and every tounge shall confess that JESUS CHRIST is LORD will you be praising him or asking mountains to fall on you. may the HOLY SPIRIT work in your lives to keep you on the straight and norrow.

I wish to correct a misunderstanding of Clif. There is a difference between a spirit and ghost. Every human has a spirit, just as Jesus did. However, when Jesus died on the cross, He gave up the ghost. A ghost is a spirit from one who has died. When all the new perverted bible versions changed what the KJV properly translated as Holy Ghost, into Holy Spirit, is a cleaver way of denying the death of Jesus, and is not scripturally correct.

i just love the Lord, and reading this has just helped me to find the right path, and trust in God even more.
  • Clif on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
To Cathy: Holy Ghost is another way of saying holy spirit, since a ghost is a spirit. It's like saying Dad and Father. The scripture is not wrong, it's that sometimes we modern readers need to understand more about how the English language was spoken and written in 1611. You can tell in reading this portion of scripture that English has changed somewhat over the last 400 years! However, to the people of 1611, "Holy Ghost" meant what we mean today when we say "Holy Spirit".

    And to Mark:
Jesus was said to be the Son of David because he was of the lineage of David, in other words in David's family. Sort of like Scottish people who trace their family lines through names of the various clans, like Stewart, Shaw, Douglas, etc. Today we use last names to give indication of one's family tree. He was also a son of Abraham, meaning of the lineage of Abraham as well. The ancient Hebrew people traced their families by who their forbears were, by giving the name of a patriarch to whose branch of family they belonged. When reading Matthew's account of the lineage of Jesus, you see both Abraham and King David are prominently mentioned. By the way, "begat" means essentially, "had a child named".
I hope this clears it up a bit, and I hope you enjoy further reading the Bible, and that you gain even greater understanding of the times of Jesus and the history of the Jewish people.
  • Cathy on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
I just want to say that Our Lord Jesus was not made by Holy Goust, it was holy spirit. And I dont know from where you have this bible but i know something for real that this bible is wrong.
  • Mark in Boston on Matthew 1:1 - 13 years ago
the first line reads (roughly): "The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the son of David, the son of Abraham." If I didn't know about Joseph & Mary, I would assume Jesus's father was named David. This page does nothing to educate me further about who David and Abraham are... no offense, I assume you mean well.

I am just finding my way back to the Lord. I have been lost for a long time, and I need the Lord back in my life. Reading the bible is the first step in getting my life back on track, although i have a hard time understanding it. Matthew 1 is the best place for me to start reading in my quest and search for God in my life. I plan on reading a chapter a day. I hope that you will pray for me so that i can find the Lord again and get my life back on track.

the orginal BIBLE was written in hebrew, roman, ( the new testament) the old testament was written in other langages as well. IESUS-LATIN-is not the orginal language of the Hebrew. YESHUA-HEBREW- was the orginal BIBLE word for JESUS. It is sad that so many people care more about the language than the meaning of what and why JESUS came. There are 1000's of languages in the world today, and always has been. JESUS is said and spelled different in almost every on of them. Our HEAVENLY FATHER knows what we mean and that is all that maters. STUDY TO SHOW YOUR SELF APPROVED GLENDA

    Hi JoJu David,

The name Iesus is Latin, where as Jesus is English.

Back in 1611, the English language used more Latin words. The language has developed quite a bit from then to today. For more info, go to the home page and click on the 400th anniversary link. It gives more info on the language.

I thind Matthew was a profet of God and he did what God commanded him to do and he did so and I have nothing to reject about him but to all these people that make question doubting in the words. Pray to God all the time because satan is very strong and is looking for to destroy human kind just look around yourselves and see God is there thank him for what he gave us all time. Believe on him and you will not have doubt in those profets. Do not have doubt in your hearts God is perfect and his profets too. The bible is also perfect.

How could the Holy Spirit make Mary pregnant? Luke 1:35 has some more explanation. Further, I suppose the process was a spiritual principle that God uses repeatedly. The creation of our world was an idea of God, which He spoke into being. For God's purpose to be fulfilled in humankind, I notice, there is usually a human statement of agreement required; i.e. with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. In the conception of Mary specifically, the angel Gabriel spoke this act of God and Mary confirmed it for completion (see Luke 1:31 & 38). If God could breathe the life of humanity into a full grown man (Adam), surely he could fertilize an egg without a human father. 1 Cor. 15:45 says the first Adam was made a living soul (being), the last Adam was made a quickening (life giving) spirit. The life element in this transaction was the WORD aspect of God becomming human flesh ( John 1:14).

I know the "begats" is rather tedious to get through but it is interesting that every fourteen generations, something significant happens. So my question, what is next on the calendar? I believe it will be the Rapture of the bloodbought church.
  • Gin Sancianco on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
AGain, Prov. 8 is WISDOM personified. God created ALL things including Wisdom, Love and everything else. Like all else given unto man, Wisdom can be used for the good and for the bad if unused. The Chapter refers to the GOOD WISDOM, not the wisdom of the wise monkey.
  • Rachel L. on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
Matthew holds many things within its pages. Most important it tells a story of child who came into this world to die for our sins. No man has, is, or will ever be The man how died for my sin except my personal savior Jesus Christ. I love him with all my heart and i think him for alowing Matthew a brother in christ to begin telling us the story of the son of man. I praise God that story has yet to come to an end until that day when i see him face to face, toach his nail scared hand, and get on my knees and worship the man who gave his life for someone like me.

  • Cheri on Matthew 1 - 13 years ago
Hi Glenda, I suppose you are saying that Jesus' baptism depicted the trinity or a triune God. Gen. 1:26 is clarified with Gen 1:27. So God made man in His OWN image. There is but one God in the whole Bible and His name is Jesus. Is.45:1-25, more specifically, 45:18 tells you that there is one God and there is none else. When studying the scriptures you can't use
e scripture to point out a fact. Is. 28:9-10,"Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? [them that are] weaned from the milk, [and] drawn from the breasts.

10 For precept [must be] upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, [and] there a little:

Jesus IS the Father in creation,(John1:1-14), Son in redemption, and the Holy Ghost in regeneration.
