Matthew 21:22 is a great source ofknowledge for the believer. It identifies what faith can do in your life. Just believe!
  • Daniel Campbell on Matthew 21 - 11 years ago
In this Scripture the Chief Priest and elders were confused because they would accept the Messiah as the Son of God, they thought him to be a prophet instead. The Pharisees were believers of tradition, the kingdom here is being offered to mankind.

I have delved intensively into the Bible in hope of finding who are the two disciples Jesus sent ahead in verse 1, but to no avail, any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank You.

In parables, Jesus is constantly trying to demonstrate the differences between true faith of grace versus false faith and religion. The tree is Israel, the fig leaves is religion that has no fruits. The Pharisees are religion with false fruits, constant with their rejection of Jesus. Regarding verse 43, many theologians believe the kingdom of God taken from Israel and given to a nation bringing forth fruit is America. As for verse 21 again, Jesus is denouncing religion encouraging his disciples and other believers that with true faith that Jesus has brought with him. That even when believers are up against false beliefs (religion), believers with biblical truth will be able to overcome obstacles (mountains) to do the work (missionary) of true believers, which is soul winning 1 Thessalonians 2:19.

    @Elizabeth lee,
On Matthew 21:5-7, when a person is reading and studying book of Matthew, there are guidelines to remember.
    1. Matthew is a New Testament book, but it is a transitional book between Old and New Testament. Matthew is mainly written doctrinally to Jews and contains a lot of typology which are pictures of biblical truths for the kingdom that Jesus was wanting to bring in, but we know that the Jews rejected him as their Messiah ( John 1:11-14), anointed one of God. The religion of the Jews has many customs and this is one of these customs. The anointed incoming kings was to ride on a mule/colt as part of the ceremony to be crowned king ( I Kings 1:33-38, Zechariah 9:9). The ass/colt also represents a person who has not been broken, saved Luke 19:35. Jesus is not only a prophet, priest, and incoming king, but our savior as well.
    2. When reading the gospels, remember that before Jesus said it is finished on the cross, they were still under the law and then it is transitional into the church age or age of grace.

Hi Betty, You are right. Jesus could have travelled like light but He chose not to. To the King Of Kings riding upon an ass was a lesson in humility. Jesus took the form of human likeness upon Himself in order to die for us but before doing so, demonstrate to the angels and the being of the other university that we human being can live a righteous life IF we abide in Him, just as Jesus abides in GOD. The power given Him by God was not to be use to gratify Himself rather it was to be used to the glory of God, relieve the suffering of mankind and to teach us the power of humility. In other words His powers and capabilities were not for self exaltation or to ease his own pain. Compare the lifestyle of Jesus to the church officials when He lived on earth; you will see the difference. God Bless you.

What a mighty God is JESUS the healer of all sickness, both spiritual and physical. Matthew 21 verse 14 reads ; And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them. After that JESUS gave us the power to do more powerful things, even more than what He did. Let me tell you what this man JESUS did for me and my family. My Brother’s son named Elikem Ayi Sittie was attacked by mysterious sickness for over 2 years, of which doctors did all but they could not solve the situation and can’t even tell what sickness was it. At a point in time some doctors said they suspected cancer. When we call upon the name of JESUS, the mighty Healer to heal our son, He did just that for us, and today the boy Elikem is doing very good to the Glory to God. Thank you JESUS. Thank you for the CROSS. The Renner & Sittie families in Ghana will always remain grateful to you JESUS.

    How Many Are Sealed?
10 Jesus said to those in line for this sealing: “Have no fear, little flock, because your Father has approved of giving you the kingdom.” ( Luke 12:32) Other scriptures, such as Revelation 6:11 and Romans 11:25, indicate that the number of this little flock is indeed limited and, in fact, predetermined. John’s next words confirm this: “And I heard the number of those who were sealed, a hundred and forty-four thousand, sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel: Out of the tribe of Judah twelve thousand sealed; out of the tribe of Reuben twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Gad twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Asher twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Naphtali twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Manasseh twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Simeon twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Levi twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Issachar twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Zebulun twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Joseph twelve thousand; out of the tribe of Benjamin twelve thousand sealed.”— Revelation 7:4-8.
11 Could this not be a reference to literal, fleshly Israel? No, for Revelation 7:4-8 diverges from the usual tribal listing. ( Numbers 1:17, 47) Obviously, the listing here is not for the purpose of identifying fleshly Jews by their tribes but to show a similar organizational structure for spiritual Israel. This is balanced. There are to be exactly 144,000 members of this new nation—12,000 from each of 12 tribes. No tribe in this Israel of God is exclusively royal or priestly. The whole nation is to rule as kings, and the whole nation is to serve as priests.— Galatians 6:16; Revelation 20:4, 6.
12 Although the natural Jews and Jewish proselytes were given the first opportunity to be chosen for spiritual Israel, only a minority of that nation responded. Jehovah therefore extended the invitation to the Gentiles. ( John 1:10-13; Acts 2:4, 7-11; Romans 11:7) As in the case of the Ephesians, who previously had been “alienated from the state of Israel,” now non-Jews could be sealed with God’s spirit and become part of the congregation of anointed Christians. ( Ephesians 2:11-13; 3:5, 6; Acts 15:14) It is appropriate, then, for the 24 elders to sing before the Lamb: “With your blood you bought persons for God out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation, and you made them to be a kingdom and priests to our God, and they are to rule as kings over the earth.”— Revelation 5:9, 10.
13 The Christian congregation is “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation.” (1 Peter 2:9) Replacing natural Israel as God’s nation, it becomes a new Israel that is “really ‘Israel.’” ( Romans 9:6-8; Matthew 21:43) For this reason, it was quite proper for Jesus’ half brother James to address his pastoral letter “to the twelve tribes that are scattered about,” that is, to the worldwide congregation of anointed Christians that in time would number 144,000.— James 1:1.

To BETTY. Your question is referring to the complex of verses Mt 21:25-32. Jesus is criticising the way of thinking that Pharisees have. In the first place it is the criticism of the hesitation on the obvious God's messages. You are right. The parable is a bit confusing, but when you read it as a part of the whole passage the picture becomes more clear. Everything I said is only my opinion, and I hope I did some help.

I beleive what I read, and I know without any doubt He is the one who gives me my inspiration. One who is born from above holds to the knowledge of Christ and is spirit filled will pray in accordance to God's will. I wish I had time and space to tell you all the things Christ has done in my life. I pray and know that I am a child of GOD. Oh to the many souls that are led each day to believe that just the thought of believing in Christ get them to heaven. I pray that they will find out they have to make him there lord. What ever a person life is in line with is there belief.

    derek,
I was reminded by the Lord's Holy WORD as follows!

DOERS OF THE SCRIPTURE ARE NEEDED BIGTIME!

Come on now. You really need to read this carefully. SCRIPTURE IS PLAIN. SCRIPTURE IS THE ONLY WAY WE KNOW JESUS! MANY only go to church on sun-day because the catholics made them. They changed the calendar and PASSED IT DOWN AS MAN'S TRADITION. They DID NOT ADHERE TO SCRIPTURE, AND THEREBY FORGOT TO REMEMBER TO KEEP THE SABBATH DAY HOLY. THIS is not being said lightly. TRADITIONS CONTRADICT SCRIPTURE. WHEN THEY DO THEY MUST BE PUT DOWN IN FAVOR OF HOLY SCRIPTURE. IF not we don't have any faith in what the scripture says because FAITH COMETH BY HEARING AND HEARING BY THE WORD OF GOD! Those that changed sabbath to sunday have abandoned the faith that cometh by hearing that comes by the word of God. Go ahead study to show thyself approved and don't trust any man. Let EVERY MAN be A LIAR BUT LET GOD BE TRUE! HE IS TRUE IN HIS WORD!

Exodus 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Exodus 31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Psalm 119:6 Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

John 15:14 Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.

Now, some may quote 2 Corinthians 3:6 "Who also hath made us able ministers of the new testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life."

But what is also TRUE THROUGH AND THROUGH IS THIS SCRIPTURE FROM JESUS HIMSELF THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS: " John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life."

What "letter" of the law is being spoken of here? Is it the letter of the law that is indicated in the following scripture? 2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." Is it the "letter" of the law that is being spoken of in this scripture? 2 Timothy 3:15-17 "And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

ALL SCRIPTURE includes old an new testament. Circumcision of the male organ is the judaizing factor which is ABSOLUTELY NOT NECESSARY unless it involves the "CIRCUMCISION OF THE HEART FROM AN EVIL HEART OF UNBELIEF."

Jesus said to keep His commandments! One of them is to remember to keep the sabbath day holy as a sign of Him as we await and prepare for His coming. the catholic church changed the calendar to sunday, the first day of the week and the catholics will boast and brag quite boldly that they did because of their IMMENSE POWER. So much is their boldness that they berate protestants who SAY they believe the bible first and foremost for their not keeping the SCRIPTURAL SABBATH. Catholics despise what they call sola scriptura and if they see waffling or weakness or inadherence to the scriptures by those that SAY they adhere to scripture first and foremost, they take every opportunity to impugn their RESOLVE, because they SAY and DO NOT DO!

JESUS IS THE FULFILLMENT OF THE LAW AND THE PROPHETS. The New Testament is NO REPLACWEMENT OF THE OLD. IT IS THE FULFILLMENT! Need proof! Here are some EXPLICIT references AS WRITTEN IN THE King James Bible, TRUE THROUGH AND THROUGH IN EVERY WORD!

    Matthew 1:22
Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,

    Matthew 2:15
And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

    Matthew 2:17
Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

    Matthew 2:23
And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene.

    Matthew 4:14
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

    Matthew 8:17
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.

    Matthew 12:17
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,

    Matthew 13:14
And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:

    Matthew 13:35
That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.

    Matthew 21:4
All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying,

    Matthew 24:34
Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.

    Matthew 26:54
But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

    Matthew 26:56
But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

    Matthew 27:9
    Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;

    Matthew 27:35
And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.

    Mark 1:15
And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.

    Mark 13:4
Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

    Mark 14:49
I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not: but the scriptures must be fulfilled.

    Mark 15:28
And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

    Luke 1:20
And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

    Luke 2:43
And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it.

    Luke 4:21
And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.

    Luke 21:22
For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

    Luke 21:24
And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Put away yuor tradition and take up the tradition of GOD ACCORDING TO HIS WORD. HIS WORD IS PLAINLY TRUE. IF you can read it, you can rely on it, even if you do not fully understand it. Ask and YE shall receive will take care of that part. Any lesser standard of belief in HIS HOLY WORD, is accepting the traditions of men and those are the "LETTERS" that "KILL" and those are what JESUS DECRIED AND BERATED THE PHARISEES ABOUT.

If you still insist the Sabbath, the token of JESUS CHRIST AND MESSIAH is not important or "JEWISH", since when have you as a believer in JESUS been CUT OUT OF THE OLIVE TREE'S ROOT AND FATNESS. You as a believer in JESUS ARE GRAFTED IN TO THE ROOT AND FATNESS THAT IS JESUS OUR KING. The Jews wre broken off for unbelief, and do you think you with unbelief will fare any better? Look it up. If it says "unto all your generations" or "perpetually" or "everlasting" etc. do we disregard that these words have EXTREMELY important meanings to ALL BELIEVERS? If you will keep the tradition of separation and GOD FORBID hatred of JEWS, YOU HAVE IGNORED the STORY OF RUTH AND THE WORDS OF THIS GENTILE MOABITESS HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN. LET THEM NEVER FALL FROM YOUR LIPS. "YOUR GOD SHALL BE MY GOD AND YOUR PEOPLE SHALL BE MY PEOPLE!"

STOP WITH THE TRADITION ALREADY! DO IT ACCORDING TO THE PLAIN WORD OF GOD, HIS WORDS ARE SPIRIT AND THEY ARE LIFE!!!!

verse 5-SION is greek for ZION, I love to study the BIBLE. Verse 12 reminds me that there are still Pharisees out there today. My pastor was in the singing minstery for about 30 years. After singing with a well known group, he was invited on their bus. He was offered a beer as all the group took one each. He said no never. The lead singer pulled a wad of cash out of this pants pocket and told my pastor that this is what it is all about. Later the truth came out and the popular group went all country-how sad.
