    Matthew 26:38

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

    Mark 14:34

And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.

    Luke 24:29

But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.

    ACTS 1:10-20

This took place in a Upper Room. A prophesy about Judas Iscariot is discussed. They are about to appoint a new 12th disciple.

I believe the Holy Spirit showed Peter of the prophesies about Judas Iscariot's betrayal.

This is one of those studies that you have to read at a snails pace, all of the center column references to get a clearer picture of prophesy with present circumstances.

I'm going to list the passages and let the scholars in here piece it together with Holy Spirit, our Helper: helping us rightly divide the Truth.

    Acts 1: 10:20

    John 18:3

    Matthew 26:55-56

    Psalm 41:9, 55:23

Isaiah 53:7 (Ch 53 all about Jesus)

    Daniel 9:26

    Lamentations 4:20

    Leviticus 25:15

    Deuteronomy 16:9

Mishael Are the gifts and calling of God irrevocable?

    Mark 6:7 And he (Jesus) called (unto him) the (including Judas) twelve, and began to send them forth by two and two; and gave them power over unclean spirits;

skip to Mark 6:13 And (the 12 apostles w/ Judas) they cast out many devils, and anointed with oil many that were sick, and healed them. (Judas was with the 12 doing these miracles and is his calling irrevocable?

John Chapter 6:70 Jesus answered them, Have not I chosen you twelve, and one of you is a devil?

John 6:71 He spake of Judas Iscariot [the son] of Simon: for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve.

    Perdition means to fall

John 17:12 While I (Jesus)was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled. Judas was the son of perdition.

Acts 1:25 That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. (what place is Judas going to?)

Matthew 26:24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

Matthew 26:25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

Mark 14:21 The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

Does this sound like Judas is still saved?

Mary, that guy you refer to in Mt 26:34 was Peter, a disciple of Jesus. It happened during the final moments before Jesus would be taken to Pilate & then judged worthy of death on a cross (for no crime that he committed). So Jesus was with all His disciples eating during the Passover & they then joined Him going to Gethsemane to pray. It was here that Jesus looked at Peter & told him that before the morning arrived (at the third crowing of the rooster), he would deny Christ, i.e. denying any knowledge or association with Jesus, because he would love his own life more than the Saviour. Then you can see the fulfilment of Jesus' words to Peter in the same chapter, verses 69-75. Then when Peter heard the cock crow the third time, he realized Jesus' words to him earlier that evening, & he became extremely remorseful for his denial of Jesus Whom he loved.

If you have questions on this or any passage, do write here, as it's important for you to know what the Bible says, as it contains God's Message to us. And the most important message is that we are all sinners, who probably would have denied Jesus just as Peter did, & that God's Love is extended to us through the giving of His Son to die for our sins & in our stead. Acceptance of this Truth & faith in Jesus means that God then receives us as His Own & will not condemn us for our past sins. May God help you Mary, as you read from His Word.

What exactly did the guy who denied Jesus that constituted a denial ? What did he say no to ?

We can look at Jesus' prayer to the Father at the Mt. of Olives ( Matthew 26:39): Jesus, in His mental agony of the great cost of redemption of mankind before Him, cries to the Father to remove this cup of suffering from Him, but that the Father's Will only be done in this. Did God sympathize with Him & said, "Yes Son, I will spare you, the world is unworthy of my Love"? We know that God's Will was that the full payment for sin & man's redemption was the sole purpose for Christ's coming to Earth. Jesus, as a MAN in pain, cried out to the Father for relief, but the Father's Response was that, pain & death had to be endured for the 'greater good' that mankind can once again be restored.

What I've shared here DaLanie, is that we must, as God's children can come to Him with our praises & also our concerns. He delights to hear us & answer us. But we have to take into account that His Answers to us will always be according to His Will, His Perspective of the situation, & His Timing. We may feel that He doesn't hear us, or that He isn't seeing the situation as we are seeing it, but we know that our loving Father makes no mistakes & His Will will be performed to the last detail. So hang in there & look to Him expectantly & be thankful for all that transpires in this legal matter. You can use human means that are available to you (nothing wrong with that, as God works through all people; e.g. doctors, politicians, etc.), but we need to remember, that "it is God Who works both in you to will & to do of His good pleasure". ( Philippians 2:13); and this working is not only in you for your maturing in Christ, but also in all your circumstances. Just trust Him fully in this matter & continue to love Him no matter the outcome - He does ALL things well.

28 For this is my blood of the New Testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Notice: above, even though JESUS is about to enter into death, JESUS has not forgotten HIS mission because we see both HIS heart and mind remain steadfast on redeeming mankind from sins. The result of the BLOOD of JESUS established the PARDON me and you needed, thereby we sinners has access to SALVATION. John 3:16-21 is our reminder.

Dennis: this is what the scriptures say about REMISSION of sins.

Matthew 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.

Luke 1:77 To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

    Luke 3:3 And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;

Luke 24:47 And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 10:43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

    Romans 3:25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

Hebrews 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Chris - I know Jesus isn't deceitful, I asked if you believe Jesus is deceitful, he was praying to his Father (not himself-Jesus isn't God he is Gods only begotten Son) Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as (I) will, but as (thou) wilt.
  • D W L - In Reply on Luke 15 - 4 years ago
Do you think Jesus was deceitful, pretending to pray to his FATHER? Matthew 26:42

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

There are plenty scriptures to argue but most of us prefer not debate.

Yes Chris..and in the time we are in right now..these scriptures come to mind John 12:25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal and Luke 24:44And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Matthew 26:39And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Blessings Chris..I believe this time is soon upon us

John 3:6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Galatians 6:1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.

Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Oh, Peter, Peter, I would have said the same as you. I'm thinking that I would have died with Jesus. But no, Jesus said I would run like a scared rabbit. Just like Peter but it was what Peter thought and what I would have thought also. When we come face to face with death, most of us would chose to live.

26-28....and as they were eating, JESUS took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, drink ye all of it, for this is MY BLOOD of the NEW TESTAMENT, which is shed for many for the remission of sins..... verse 26-28, notice JESUS MIND is on me and you because in these verses HE clearly assures us JESUS is putting /putted in place a WAY. Yes, a WAY thereby you and I can obtain remission /forgiveness of sins BY /THROUGH HIS BLOOD unto SALVATION. So thank GOD for SALVATION through JESUS. John 3:16-21.

Read the Bible for yourself Matthew, Mark, Luke, John is good for new converts to learn. The law and prophets were until John since then its the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Who was Jesus praying to? Matthew 26:39 And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt. Matthew 20:23 And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

Matthew 26:24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Woe means: grief, sorrow, misery, a heavy calamity, Curse. Galatians 3:13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Iscariot.

Wendell Briggs, Judas Iscariot went to his own place, his eternal hell. Acts 1:25 Mark 14:21 John 17:12 Matthew 26:24. We choose our own place in this world. We choose our own place in eternity. Judas Iscariot betrayed our Lord Jesus Christ, for thirty pieces of silver.

Acts 22:16 is where the blood washed Saul s sins away. Acts 2:38 is where around 3000 had their sins remitted. Acts 8:29-39 is where the blood washed the eunoch s sins away. Matthew 26:28 and Acts 2:38 tie the blood to the water. Rev. 1:5 and Acts 22:16 tie the blood to the water. John3:1-5 tie Spirit to the water. 1st John 5:8 ties it ALL Together. 1st Peter 3:21 is right, BAPTISM SAVES. Peace
