Who was Elijah in Matthew 27:48-49
  • Chris - In Reply on Luke 17 - 4 years ago
Jesus often spoke of Himself as Son of Man as He sometimes referred to Himself as Son of God. He was correct in doing so, as He was both: He was the Word of God made flesh (man) John 1:1-14 and He was also a Man (by that same reference & the account of His human birth: Matthew 1:20-25). For His Own reasons, Jesus used these designations interchangeably depending on who He was speaking to & in what context. In any case, those that heard His teachings & saw His miracles knew that Jesus' claim to be the Son of God was clear & specific. Even at the cross, they cried out to Him, "If Thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross" ( Matthew 27:40).

Adam & Eve were our first parents & it wasn't until a specific calling (of Abraham) that a holy line of people began to form. True, of the sons of Noah (i.e. prior to Abraham), Shem was elected to be the forefather of the later nation of Israel. And from Shem, Abraham came & became the promise of being the father of a great nation ( Genesis 12:1-3) & of many nations ( Genesis 17:1-5). As the nation of Israel grew in number & expanded by conquering opposing lands, they began to intermarry with the Canaanite nations, when clearly forbidden to do so by God: Deuteronomy 7:1-4; 1 Kings 11:1,2; Nehemiah 13:3, 23-27. Therefore, I feel that there are no pure Jews today; even though some would have stayed true to the Word of God, maybe their children (even a few) chose to intermarry, then that purity would continue to diminish over succeeding generations. I hope that is what you were seeking to know Joseph.

Then we have Matthew 27:51-54, when the 'faithful' dead arose from their tombs at the death of Jesus on the Cross. They not only woke up but must have had re-constituted bodies as they walked about & appeared to many as a witness after Jesus' resurrection. We're not told what happened to them after this event; my guess is that they ascended as the Lord did - but no proof of this. This then correlates to the resurrection of Christians at the coming of Christ. This second resurrection will also be one of re-constituted bodies rising to be Christ forever & a witness to the Power of Christ.

And the 'hope' of the Christian in all this is that we don't face God's Judgement for our sin, as Jesus fully accomplished that on the Cross for us, to those who have put their faith in Him. So however our state will be at death & what transpires between our spirits & bodies, we know that we will see our Lord Who gave His Life for us, being welcomed into His Presence, unlike those who reject His Cross, who face certain judgement.

  • How To Make Bible Study Explode on Matthew 27 - 4 years ago
Know what? If we got a new video game we'd be awake 24/7, figuring out how to play it. Another 2 years trying to beat the game (including Time spent on YouTube watching cheats and tricks).

We're all over the place trying to Beat That Game!!!

Tell me why we don't go at the Bible the same way?? Dig, dig deeper, read commentaries on here, read commentaries on Google.

The Holy Spirit is your TEACHER?!? Ask Him. If you'll sit still long enough and be quiet, you will get answers.

    PRAY for a TEACHABLE spirit.

They're not cheats; but your Bible will start speaking to your spirit.

Get a Study Bible that has Center of Each page, reference columns: with the abc notes within the scriptures. Those send you to other scriptures that EXPAND the meanings or reveal a prophesy.

:D. You'll get as good as Chris eventually.

Get a large print concordance. Serious study. The Bible and "helps" are in the front of the books. Tells you the "tricks" on how to use them. The best maps and charts are on Google.

I was fooling around one day with the Search Engine on this website... typed in CHINA. Up pops 3 scriptures!! Pandemics in the end times come from there and around the coasts to N Africa. May be places where poor people have no food at all?

Pandemics are real. And we are going to see one after another. It's in the Bible.

Learn to study! For yourselves. Share what you find, on here. IT IS FUN! God speaks to us through His Word.

When you sit down to study: pray: I HAVE THE SAME MIND OF CHRIST !! I receive it by faith right now. God watches over His Word To Perform it.

Give that fine mind of yours To The Holy Spirit, stand back, and see what He will show you. Habakkuk 2:2-4

You gotta get plugged into the Holy Spirit. Depend on Him. Pursue Him. Be quiet and Listen To Him.

Comments by Alex on God the Son in Hebrews 1 it says unto the Son he says thy throne O God is forever. It was the FATHER himself that said that everything has multiply after His Kind in heaven and earth and we see that Jesus is able to multiply himself in humanity via his seed the word, and he said to whom the word came that good seed it made them Gods and the scripture cannot be broken. Jesus does not reproduce himself after mankind he neva had any flesh and blood children,All his children were spirits the H.G Plural simply b/c his seed is the WORD which is spirit thus his children are spirits Gods, He breathe on them and they received the H.G.,His breath was his word which is his seed as he said the Good seed is the words of God. His woman is the world as God so loved the world etc and the field is the WORLD where that good seed will be sown meaning humanity, thats y the Prophets saw the WORLD in travail and birth pains simply b/c of his precious seed the living word he reproduces after the God kind, thats y he is saying that which is born of the spirit is spirit thus he reproduces after the God kind proving he is truly God the Son. He only took on flesh and blood to die for the sins of the WORLD BUT HE SAID B/F ABRAHAM WAS I AM.. He even tells us his WORD is the very seed of the Kingdom. Only God cd reproduce after the SPIRIT/God KIND . There cd not be an Israel of God if Jesus cd not reproduce after the God kind which is the H.G. the child of Promise Sprits ( Gods ) That are gona BE BORN IN US SINNERS via his seed/word the new covenant. Whosoever receives one such CHILD IN MY NAME RECEIVES ME thats his offspring THE H.G. God .GB

    Matthew 27.43

He trusted in God ; let him deliver him now , if he will have him : for he said , I am the Son of God .

Notice Jesus was condemned for claiming to be the Son of God .

" the Son OF God " not GOD the SON . It can not be both , the Bible never says Jesus is GOD . There is only 1 LORD GOD .

Yes Jesus is born OF God , not at all the same thing . Jesus was condemned for claiming to be the Son OF God .

God bears witness that Jesus is his Son .

witnessed by the word of God the Bible and even Jesus enemies ?

GOD the SON , never mentioned in the Bible .

If any person came in any time and said He is GOD no one in their right mind would give it a second thought .

Donna, there are examples in the Bible of those who suicided. One is in 1 Samuel 31:4, when King Saul wanted his armour-bearer to kill him as he was wounded in the battle. He refused, so Saul "fell upon his own sword" & his armour-bearer seeing this & the implications that would have upon him, also did likewise. There is also Samson ( Judges 16:26-30) who with his great strength from the Lord, pulled down the pillars of the building that he was prisoner in, thus killing himself & many Philistines that were gathered there. And then we have Judas Iscariot ( Matthew 27:3-5) who hanged himself after he realized his sin in betraying Jesus.

So even though we have instances of suicide, I don't believe the Bible ever talks specifically about it as being sin. Why we say that suicide is sin, is because by definition, it is self-murder & wilful murder in any form is sin. I know that one who contemplates suicide does so under very trying mental, emotional & physical conditions - a good friend of mine having taken his own life because of severe multiple sclerosis. I tried my best to encourage him & give him hope, but the pain & loss of movement was too much & made existence meaningless. Every avenue should be resorted to so that such a desperate person may receive help & counsel & most cities have a Lifeline phone number to assist.

The death of the trinity doctrine .

If you believe the trinity doctrine God left Jesus alone here and Jesus did not know why .

Gods in full control none else here and many other places in the Bible

Jesus still had the Holy Spirit seen in verse 50 until he gave it up .

But this should be enough if you can sink some thought into it ...

The trinity here in Father , Son and Holy Ghost are now separate. Poof goes you triune God that never existed to begin with !

Mt 27:51: "And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent".

This was another great event that took place apart from Jesus' Sacrifice & His Resurrection. Right at the time of Jesus' death, at the evening oblation, the officiating priest would have seen this spectacular event of the heavy veil (curtain) that separated the Holiest Place from the Holy Place in the Temple, was torn apart from top to bottom. If man had cut it, it would probably be cut from bottom to top, but God showed that He did it, from the top downwards.

This is significant for you & me as it is one of God's declarations that the Work of the Cross (that Work that was planned from the beginning of time for mankind's sins), was finally accomplished with the death of His Son Jesus Christ. His death not only was Jesus being our substitute to pay for our sins, but also averted God's Anger against us sinners. So the rending of the veil indicated that God also opened up the way for those who believe on Jesus, both Jew & Gentile, to now have access direct to God without the need for a priest to intercede or make sacrifice or oblation. Roman Catholics still go to their priest for confession, but the Way has been opened for us to approach God, through His Son, to talk to Him, to confess our sins, & to enjoy His Presence in our lives. Had Christ not died, had the veil not be rent, had not Jesus arisen from the grave, we would still be in our sins & stand guilty before God. Jesus' Sacrifice for us was truly great & for eternity & so we ever remain grateful to Him & growing in love & faith for Him Who has done it all for us.

Resurrection means, a person who has died has his body (or, remains) physically raised from the grave without any human contribution, i.e. the body rises up & comes to life by God's Power.

In that passage you've quoted, Jesus was speaking with the Sadducees (a religious sect of the Jews) who didn't believe in the resurrection. They wanted to test Jesus about the after life as to which wife of the many a man had married, would be his wife when they all rose from the dead. Jesus told them that human marriage is an earthly union & such marriages don't figure in Heaven. Of those who were resurrected, we of course have Jesus Himself Who rose up from the dead & ascended back to God proving that His Sacrifice for mankind's sins were completed & fully acceptable to God Who had planned for this to happen. Then after Jesus' resurrection, many of those righteous people who had died earlier also arose from their graves & walked among the people (see Matthew 27:51-53).

The Bible tells us that the next occasion of a resurrection will be in the future when Jesus comes to take away His people including raising up His people who have died ( 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18) & note the word 'sleep' is a euphemism for those who've already died. And again, after the Great Tribulation (a horrible time of the outpouring of God's Anger upon the world) there will be another general resurrection (read Revelation chapter 20).

There are also instances where someone has died & they have come to life in the Old Testament: 1 Kings 17:17-24; 2 Kings 4:32-37; 2 Kings 13:21 and we have instances in the New Testament of people being brought back to life by Jesus or His disciples.

Two Bible verses the Lord brought to my attention a while back that gives me hope concerning the events in our time:

If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. Ecclesiastes 6:8 KJV

Come, my people, enter thou into thy chambers, and shut thy doors about thee; hide thyself as it were for a little moment, until the indignation be overpast.

For, behold, the LORD cometh out of his place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity: the earth also shall disclose her blood, and shall no more cover her slain. Isaiah 26:20-21 KJV

The Lord WILL punish ALL sin, wickedness, blasphemy, abominations. We must pray for those committing such evil to repent and be TRULY saved. We also must pray for ourselves AND REPENT, CONFESS our sins to Jesus, beg His FORGIVENESS, be TRULY SAVED, OBEY HIM, and ENDURE to the end in Him, NEVER WAVERING.

I must confess that I am having difficulty living in this world. I feel many times like the man of God who was hiding in a cave thousands of years ago from Jezebel who wanted to kill him. She had already killed all the Lords faithful. He was sure that he was the only one left who loved and obeyed God, but God told him that He still had (I think it was 7,000) faithful in hiding. Before God told him that, he was intentionally starving himself to death due to recent events throwing him into a deep depression. Until God encouraged and reassured him, he did not want to live anymore. Please forgive me, I don't remember where in the Old Testament it is. If you type in your browser "Who was the prophet that hid in a cave from Jezebel?" it should come up.

    WE - MUST - REMAIN - STRONG- IN - THE - LORD.

    HE - IS - STILL - IN - CONTROL - NO - MATTER - WHAT.

"I have seen the travail, which God hath given to the sons of men to be exercised in it." He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

12I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.

13And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.

14I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.

15That which hath been is now; and that which is to be hath already been; and God requireth that which is past.

16And moreover I saw under the sun the place of judgment, that wickedness was there; and the place of righteousness, that iniquity was there.

17I said in mine heart, God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.

18I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

5And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

7And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates.

Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

I don't think there will ever be a consensus of the exact dates of our Lord's Birth & Death as it's not revealed in Scripture. I think most arrive at their findings from considering the start of Herod's rule, age of baby boys at that time, the start of John the Baptist's ministry, Jesus' age (30) at His Baptism/ministry (approx.), the Passover timing which was strictly adhered to by the Jews, etc. Some have even looked closely to past lunar eclipses, comets, earthquakes, etc. to establish a timeline. Even with all this, no one has come up with clear dates that can be agreed upon, which of course may be for a Divine reason. Who knows!

Hi Cheryl - Genesis Chapter 1 is an account of the creation in a step by step manner all the way through Genesis Chapter 2 v 3 where the creation story ends (It is a sort of bulleted fashion - at least that is what we call it these days). Then in Genesis Chapter 2 v 4, you start to reading about the creation story again, in a more detailed fashion. Once you realize that is happening it will start to fall into place. There are many areas of Scripture were a statement is made in one chapter and then repeated in more detail later in the same chapter or future chapter. May God bless your way!

Are the dates shown in the New Testament e.g. such as 4 B.C. or 32 A.D. an approximation or is there verification somewhere about how they were authenticated?

Thank you for your reply to my question on Abraham and Isaac

This is what I'm getting at ...these things can come from your own head(wicked reasoning) .

I am not questions Abraham or his faith in the LORD ,but just because he believed it was the True God did not make it necessarily so..... There is another interested party in all this that wanted to scuttle the Lords purpose in bringing mankind to its former good standing by his only begotten son Jesus the Christ

How many times in history has he become an angle of light and tricked someone, Jesus warned us about , the wolf. Angle of light. The false prophet. The anti Christ . The leaven of the Pharisee . The son of perdition. And so on.

My thoughts are that Abraham was probable tricked. Almighty God saved him from doing the deed because he had been tricked by that False God which many people in the world today are still chasing after. ( You will not be tested beyond what you can bear but he will make the way out for you so you are able bear it. ) Satan has tried to distroyed the Lords purpose and has failed every time and his end is near ,...... Down to the earth with great anger knowing he has but a short period of time.

Jesus said " it is finished, I have conquered.

Romans 1 speaks on perversions that people do to each other and kids too.

    Romans 1:26 and forward:

For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: [women laying with women]

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet. [disease]

28 And even as they did not like to

    retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, WICKEDNESS, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

It's not mentioned but surely in 2020 we can understand, since it's frequently on the evening news!! that our society is sex trafficking children of both sexes. Kids are grabbed off the streets in broad daylight.

Pedophiles and kiddie porn addicts find many victims on Facebook!! Little kids tell where they live; they don't know the danger.

Get rid of social websites! It's a killing field.

Ask the cops that hunt the traffickers and pedophiles.

You could never convince me that Facebook was invented for evangelism. It was invented to destroy AOL chat rooms and be king of social networks. I'm old, I saw people who had their whole lives imploded because they used aol to lead secret lives.

Nowadays it's all out there in the open. Little children being destroyed. WWJ say?

    Wesley's Notes for Acts 18:3

18:3 They were tent makers by trade - For it was a rule among the Jews (and why is it not among the Christians?) to bring up all their children to some trade, were they ever so rich or noble.

People's Bible Notes for Acts 18:3

Ac 18:3 Because he was of the same occupation, he abode with them. This is the first mention of the handicraft by which so often during his toilsome life Paul earned his daily bread. Every Jewish boy was taught a trade, and Paul no doubt learned his in Tarsus.

    Compare Acts 20:34, 1 Thessalonians 2:9, 2 Thessalonians 3:8, 1 Corinthians 4:12, 2 Corinthians 11:9.

What an amazing testimony Paul had: born a Jew; became a high ranking Pharisee. Became a citizen of Rome: served warrants to kill Christians (see Stephens death).

Confronted on the Damascus Road, on his way to serve more warrants: and was confronted by Jesus Christ.

At the end of this chapter 18, Paul decides to minister to the Gentiles which was his calling. His entire ministry is a marvel when you consider all of the things he endured for the sake of His Savior. He did what he knew to be doing.

Do we know what to be doing?

    Matthew 26:31-46

    Revelation 14:12-13

It's not a law to do something for Jesus. It's an act of Love, a privilege, it's worship and adoration. Love makes us want to give love.

That's Him, inside of our spirit and soul. Do you feel it? We are indwelled with Someone so powerful...that even death could not stop it. He walked out of that tomb in the glorious power of Love.

God so loved the world! That He GAVE...his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him, should Not perish, but have everlasting life.

    Love gives.

We give love because He loves us.

Obeying laws is an insult to this kind of Love. We never can be good enough in our own power to emulate the God-kind of Love.

    It's simply giving.

Ezra 9:2 builds up on what verse 1 had to say, i.e. the people of Israel, their priests & Levites had failed to separate themselves from the heathen around them, rather partook of their abominations. A part of their unfaithfulness to the Lord was their intermarrying with the heathen (taking women for themselves thereby corrupting the 'holy seed' = God's chosen people & opening up the way for further departure from the things of the true God). So Ezra isn't talking about incest here rather unfaithfulness to God & corrupting their Holy standing before God.

And the same applies to us today who love the Lord through His Son, that we are "not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" 2 Corinthians 6:14. This applies not only in marriage, but also in our relationships & business interests. We need to converse with them, work with them, understand them & bring them the Gospel, but not to to be bound in a way that could distract us from truly following Christ, thus polluting the Holy Seed & Life God has bestowed upon us.

    Dear Chris

Thank you very much for sharing your story and I am very happy that you found your way to serve God. In the past my life was very fortunate on many fields but I was ignorant and never acknowledged what God had done for me. Someone else has commented on my post, and only within few minutes after reading couple of posts, James 1 and Jeremiah this morning I have realised how ignorant I was. God was there, giving me opportunity to accept Him, giving me everything I needed but I did not, I was blind to see. Now I am asking God to do it again in my life, to accept my apology and to send someone else in my life who can guide me on His path. I fell that I had big chance but I closed the doors, I never had to ask God twice, he was there for me always, every moment, but I did not know that at the time.

    Hi Matthew Folkwein

It was really encouraging when I read that you said that God might speak to us through others. I did not know that, but immediately after reading what you said I recollected past times when God did do exactly that but I was not aware until now. This recognition also revealed to me many sins I committed during those times. What you have said brought understanding of something that I kept missing for many years. I feel very sad about it now as I would have acted differently towards God, towards other people and myself. It was somewhere in me but I did not understand what it was - missed messages from God. I cant turn the time back but can only hope that God will not turn His back to me.

Thank you very much for you comment and pointing me to James 1which I have read this morning after reading your post. I understand what you are saying, I do get impatient on occasions as sometimes I want to receive something more concrete than having fate alone, but I also understand that it is my problem when doubts arise. I am not hiding that I have occasional doubts but all I can do is continue praying and reading I believe. Thank you again.
