If the tempter could tempt Jesus Christ, which means that God did not promise that there will be no tempters among us, but he promised to see us through.
  • Robert on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
God knew what would be in place for his son and nothing would have changed this except if the devil obeyed God which he did not. Jesus was being prepared to take THE whole WORLD back to his father and he knew it. God said it straight forward this is my son in whom I am well pleased. Let’s leave religion out and everything we think we know about him then start all over. The LOVE OF GOD for all of us planned a perfect plan to get us back and every step was well planned. Jesus is truly lord and is the son of GOD that has given us proof of his plan step by step. Loving God is the perfect way of drawing closer to understanding His will with his and unconditional love through CHRIST OR LORD AND SAVIOUR.

We are more than victorious with JESUS.
  • Elibariki kingu on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
Three tests faced the Lord, the same shall face believers of the truth before the second advent of the savior. These are: 1. all mankind shall be tested of true GOD WORSHIP, Satan wants to be worshiped in place of true God JEHOVAH'S. Satan is ready to give power and earthly authority, to men of this planet so that they pay homage and worship to idols instead of the true GOD. 2. Satan will test people to ignore heavenly principles of eating and will use food to make men go astray from the love of GOD. Satan will cause hunger and famine, Satan shall bring drought in many places of this planet so that the test of eating is a substitute for men to pay homage and worship to devil in place of God. Satan did that to Jesus when he fasted for forty days and nights. 3. Satan will lead men to test their creator by using the promise made by God himself to his people. Satan will cause men to rethink the genuineness of the promise of God to men as he did to our lord Jesus Christ.

To me it shows that Satan is the ruler of this world and we must follow Jesus example closely.
  • Henry on Matthew 4:4 - 12 years ago
Could this also mean that we as Christians today need to refer to the Old as well as the New Testament in our study of God’s word?
  • Jane' Bethea on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
    It was PERFECT!
  • Shirley on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
God is letting us know that we For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. The key to surviving is to fast, pray and to repent daily. We have no one else to blame but ourselves because the enemy is in me. Which means that you can be your worst enemy when you allow the devil to over power you when you are surpose to have power to make him flee as Jesus did after going on a fast after being hungry meanly when the devil told him to turn the stone into bread and he refused to do so. That takes power. Much prayer Much power, little prayer little power, no prayer no power. Prayer changes thangs my sister and brother so lets pratice that Amen.

Matt7:11 If ye then, being evil know how to give
good gifts to your children, man without God in your life. Is contrary and is therefore like unto the Devil being tempted. As Jesus did not waver in his weakness through hunger, so we also must have the same faith.(Joel2:12). When committing our selves to God to serve in Christ, its the new creation in which we committed our selves. When Jesus becomes our Lord and Savior. As Jesus often times went up into the mountain to God to let this cup pass. He was also committed to God to lead his desciples. As they followed him they to were committed. As read in Gen1:2Light Came into the world in the beginning of creation. And in (John1:1-4). Then after reading that you must know now we must obey God in his first of the 10, commandments in Exodus20:3. And then you shall receive power to resist the devil and he will flea from you.

  • Shelly-Ann on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
Temptations will come but how we depend on the lord to carry us through makes all the difference.
  • Fortune M. Mlaga on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
From this chapter we clearly learn that no-one is exempt from temptation. We also learn that the devil is an opportunist who seeks to target us at our weakest points,i.e,he knew tht Jesus had been on fasting and surely would be hungry...But more importantly,we learn that if we stand on the word of God we will NOT please Satan!Infact,if our standing is right with God we will tell the devil where to get off(verse 10),and he has no option but to leave us(vs 11),or rather flee away from us!!!

i think it means if we plan to go to Heaven we got to do everything the bible says not just the part we agree with.

Lord Jesus pls have mercy on us. Pls lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil for thine is d kingdom d power and glory forever amen.
  • James Estepp on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
The devil also temps us and Jesus has shown us how to handle the temptations.
  • Sister Sarah on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
Jesus easily recognizes who these two men are and they easily recognize Him. He calls, they stop let everything in their hands go and without hesitation follow.

He gathers those who are his close( ? )And says time to travel and give to others. The physical phenomena draws crowds everywhere he goes and the things he changed from suffering to joy are too numerous to list here. He is a healer of illness, physical illness, and anything related to off balance.
  • Sister Sarah on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
Even though Jesus had had no bread or water for 40 days, when tempted, he referred to the law of his father, spoke it and shared knowledge with his tempter by telling him why he was able to turn down his "gift". He tells him bread is not as important to him right now as the other things as at least necessary for life.
  • Edmundo Azurin on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
Matt 4:23 - This is the true gospel - the good news of the kingdom of God and Jesus Christ as king. Any other gospel is a false gospel.
  • Edmundo Azurin on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
In Matthew 4 verse 4 Jesus was saying that man should not live only by being physically alive but also to live according to the way GOD wants us to live by following his instructions/commands as revealed and written in the bible.
  • Karen on Matthew 4:4 - 12 years ago
Jesus was saying that we need to be hearers of his word and doers of his word. Jesus was telling us to follow him and do what he is saying in the word. I believe that Jesus was our example of how we must live, act, and talk. He was saying we need to live by what he says and what he did while here on earth. By example
  • Timothy on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
One must remember that these Gospels were written 25 to 125 years after Jesus' death...most, if not all the eyewitnesses were dead by the time of these interpretations. Jesus must have told someone afterward regarding His dialogue with the Tempter offering Him the world. They were alone, and the Devil was in spirit.

Reference on Matthew 4:24-25 is Isaiah 52:13. Then I read verses Is 52:13-15 and I was astonished. This prophecy is full of truth. It does not lost nothing of its significance for about 26 centuries. How is it possible. I must quote it:
13 Behold, my servant shall deal prudently, he shall be exalted and extolled, and be very high.
14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
15 So shall he sprinkle many nations; the kings shall shut their mouths at him: for [that] which had not been told them shall they see; and [that] which they had not heard shall they consider.
    GOD BLESS YOU ALL

In Matthew 4:2-10 devil is gradually tempting Jesus (from food, then jump from the high tower and finally to be the emperor of the whole world). Jesus rejects all this (it is hard to reject food when you are hungry, not to mention the other temptations). The interesting thing in this chapter is how Jesus defend himself from all these temptations. By knowledge of the Holy Text, solely. It is a great lesson for me. GOD BLESS YOU ALL
  • Sandy on Matthew 4:4 - 12 years ago
In researching matt 4:4 I find myself reading and understanding this part (..by EVERY word that proceeds from the mouth of God) in this way..By THE word that proceeded out of the mouth of God (refering to Jeshua (Jesus). As a reference I use in the beginning was THE Word and THE word was with God and The Word was God and through Him (Jesus)all things were made. He is the Breath of God who gives life to man. Jesus was talking about himself not the bible. correct? or not?
  • Judy Hoover on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
I believe Matthew knows about the conversation between Jesus & Satan only through the divine revelation of God the Father, or Jesus himself. I don't feel everything Jesus said & done has been recorded in text. Just the things that show his mission for the saving of mankind & deity. I guess I ponder this question to everyone. Has there ever been a time you knew something? That no physical person told you & you didn't research either? That's the power of God, revelation only comes through Christ.
  • Judy Hoover on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
In verse 8, when Satan showed Jesus the kingdoms of the world. I believe when Satan was banished from heaven. The world (i.e. the earth.)became Satan's dominion. Even though he goes to & fro to devour the people. We have to remember Jesus rose from the grave with all power in his hands! So Satan can't destroy or devour anything without God's permission. Satan can only plant the temptation, it's up to us if we act upon it.
  • Judy Hoover on Matthew 4 - 12 years ago
In verse 4,food is physically nourishing to the body. Food & water will sustain your body & help to keep you alive. When Jesus told Satan "Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God!" He meant in the spirit, your spirit needs to be fed just like your flesh. The word of God "DAILY!" Is our spiritual nourishment for the soul. The word of God helps us to sustain a right relationship with Christ. Grow in faith. Teaches how to love with a Christian heart. Live in a world that isn't ours. How to treat non believers. Accept death and so much more!!!!
