perhaps this is one of the hardest tasks that jesus asks us to do. But as i grow older i find that it gets easier as we weaken physically with age!Hopefully when I reach heaven i will be able to tell Jesus that I achieved this goal before i died!
  • Anna on Matthew 5 - 10 years ago
I LOVE good old fashioned teaching and preaching. Matthew simplifies God 's word and says it in a complete manner to understand the word of God.

Yes It is hard to love your enemies and to Bless those who curse you I like Alicia s comment Being Christ like is not a chore but a Privilege We can only do this through prayer and a willing heart to want to be as Christ We need to have a desire to be as He is while we are in this world The rewards are very pleasing when we submit to God It is also a joy I once heard a pastor say and it has stuck with me in these situations Forgive them for your own sake Glory to God God forgave us for His names sake

  • BSP on Matthew 5:37 - 10 years ago
It is important to say what we mean and stick by what we say. If we say we are going to do something, we should make sure we do all we can to fulfill our words.
  • George Ua on Matthew 5:44 - 10 years ago
The act of loving one who hate you, bless them that curse you through powerful prayer is the best medicine to defeat Satan, but that all begins within your family, your roof first before you love outsiders.
  • Buzz on Matthew 5:32 - 10 years ago
It was not translated properly from the original Greek.
"put away" didn't mean divoce, it meant to dismiss or abandon for no good reason. Jesus is saying, if you do, then give her a certificate of divorce so she or he can go and re-marry. That way there is no adultery. Jesus meant that the put away spouse is still married and thus cannot re-marry until legally divorced. Anyone back then commiting adultery or fornication while married would have been stoned to death anyway.
the original Greek used two different words for "put away" and "divorce" and they were not translated properly.
  • Shirley on Matthew 5:16 - 10 years ago
Whatever you do for others you don't have to go around looking for praise from other peoples. Whatever you do let it be secretly so God can be glorified. Its not about us Its all about HIM.
  • Tripple ''a'' on Deuteronomy 18 - 10 years ago
D above verse clearly pointed 2 prophet Muhammad (S A W) cos it said among their brethren which means anoda tribe entirely nt 4rm israelites, nd he shall speak 2 dem all dat I command, dis carefully observation wil tel u nd remind u dat it was only moses (ASW) who brought 10 commandments 4rm God, like wise our noble prophet (PBOH) he brought commandments 4rm God, bt 4 Jesus (ASW) there was never any verse of d bible dat point out any commandment he brought, bt instead followed those already brought as claimed by him in matthew 5:17-19, nd moreover christian claimed Jesus 2 b son of God nt a Prophet.
  • Peter on Matthew 5:44 - 10 years ago
many people say God's things are hard to follow and perfect. God knows our weakness and thst is why he sent us the holly spirit to guide us. With prayer it is posible to fulfil his command to love our enemies and pray for all that persecute us.
May God bless all of you.
  • Angel on Matthew 5:32 - 10 years ago
My thoughts on the matter is; God create woman for man, therefore man is held accountable for not taking his place as man.
  • Joe on Matthew 5 - 10 years ago
Verses 1 & 2 mentions 'multitudes' and 'disciples' which I understand to mean Jesus taught many others besides His choosen apostiles. Is my understanding correct?

PERFECTION 'Defined' by Yeshua the Christ
    MATTHEW Chapter 5

2 And he Opened His Mouth, and Taught them, saying,
    (Blessed be 'the Beatitudes'
Acts 'how to handle life situations')
LAST VERSE 48 BE ye therefore PERFECT, even as your Father which is in heaven is PERFECT. (The Conclusion of HIS TEACHINGS, HIS THOUGHTS, HIS WORDS, HIS TRUTHS, HIS LAWS)
"Perfect is mentioned throughout the Holy Sciptures, not limited to: Job, Abraham, Peter, Paul, and Yeshua the CHRIST who said be ye Perfect as I am Perfect. Anyone who speaks against being Perfect clearly DO NOT UNDERSTAND the Definition Given By the SON OF THE MOST HIGH."
  • Laura on Matthew 5:43 - 11 years ago
We should love both. I agree with Charles.
  • Topel Sweeney on Psalms 90 - 11 years ago
One of the highlights that stands out to me as I read this chapter is the focus that's put on time management. Moses's prayer was for an understanding that his days were numbered. As a servant of the Lord, one should use his time well to bring beauty to the name of his Creator.

Matthew 5:16 "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."

Only one life twill soon be past & only what's done for Christ will last.
  • Alvin on Exodus 20 - 11 years ago
In response to the comment by Mr. Watson Saturday is the seventh day of the week and the days of the week have not changed. Sunday is the first day of the week and sunday worship was implemented by constantine in 321 AD. God blessed the seventh day and called it the Sabbath therefore we are to keep it holy. It is one of the ten commandments and is still binding today. Only God can make something holy not man.

    Matthew 5:17-19
17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
  • Adubazi Johnson on Matthew 5 - 11 years ago
This is a powerful sermon from our Lord Jesus Christ at the mountain.
  • Azarayah on Matthew 5:17 - 11 years ago
"The Law" and "The Prophets" taken together are the Tanakh -- the Jewish scripture. Christ tells us that His coming in no way means the end of the validity of that scripture. Rather, He has come to prove that it can be fulfilled, or obeyed, which the Jews (including Paul, called an Apostle) said was impossible! In another place He tells us the Two Great Commandments, upon which all of The Law and The Prophets must be hung (because doing so automatically fulfills Tanakh). These things are so despite Paul's (I am all things to all people) (I am a Roman, a Greek, and a Pharisee of the Jews) words in Galatians.
