Dear Sister Thelma; It is a comfort like healing balm to read good words like yours! While so many times I am compelled to answer, reprove, rebuke and correct, many misled and obstinate who have set themselves to oppose and contradict the truth of the Glad Tidings; the good and wholesome words of the Saints are like cold waters to a thirsty soul, and so timely! The LORD bless and keep you!

Jot; Just in case there are actually multitudes of sincere Believers with good and honest hearts; who really do think deeply about WHAT they pray; don't you think it might be a "little" arrogant to presume that praying the "Our Father" is heathen repetition? Leading the Assembly in prayer of the very words of our Lord is a good thing! Maybe you need to start praying, instead of attacking prayer.
  • Jot on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
Verse 7: "when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do" - Then in verses 10 to 13 he gives an EXAMPLE of a righteous prayer..
Certain denominations then REPEAT the EXAMPLE word for word for CENTURIES taking Jesus' words literally! Such a contradiction. And since when was the savior EVER literal?! His entire gospel was told in metaphors.
Our prayers should be unique and from the heart.

Verse 22 and 23: Remarkable! Here Jesus is saying we're either 100% full of light and righteousness or 100% full of evilness and darkness. There's no such thing as partly good and partly bad, partly righteous and partly wicked. The only way to be full of light is to believe in Jesus cause He is the light of the world. All who believe in Jesus are full of light, all who don't are full of darkness.

Ana d..it is sometimes hard to love people, and if our standing in Heaven was decided by what we do, and think, we would all surely fail, the Kingdom of Heaven will be yours, not because of yourself, but because of Christ alone, ..let no man boast that he is able to earn Heaven, none are able. Believe in Him with your heart, and be saved. Jesus said many times "Do not be afraid".
  • Jeff Berry on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
Ana d, no doubt every time someone reads your post they will say a prayer for you! We should all be as burdened as you are. In fact, your burden makes me think that you are going to be okay. Blessings my friend!

Bud, Tresspass=sin, offense, immorality, wickedness, abuse, err, unlawful act, slander, etc; whatever the case may be if we do not forgive them for the transgression, iniquity, the Lord will not forgive us. God will have the final say at the judgment seat, so we had better take care of it, before we get there. . Matthew 6:15, Matt. 18:21 "brother sin against me."
  • Lu2677 on Luke 5 - 7 years ago
Bud, I don't know what Insight 777 is saying about it but, Matthew 6:14,15, 18:21, talks about men forgiving other men. It is one of his commandments for his children.
  • Andy on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
Just as Jehovah God forgives us of our sins, we want to show a forgiving attitude towards people.
  • Wayne on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
Trust and obey, for there's no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust obey.
  • A disciple on Matthew 24 - 7 years ago
Hello Lu2677, nice to hear from you again :) Deuteronomy 29:29; Matthew 6:4,6,18; Ezekiel 8:12; etc.. In Moses "the secret things" has to do with how the people would eventually be punished severely for forsaking the Holy Covenant, in light of their inward defiance and disbelief. The Lord teaches us about our religion being in truth in the inward parts. Ezekiel was shown their secret sinful minds.

    V. 33. Wife and I are retired. When we need extra money the Lord provides. Last few months, spirit of saving money has been on me. When the amount reached $4000, the saving spirit left me. Very noticeable, the departing. The Lord always supplies. Don't know what the needs will be but I know He has supplied to take care of it. Jesus never disappoints but feeds us and clothes us. Praise His Name!!!

We who are Saved by The Blood of The Lamb, are The only Light this World will see. Our Mission:Tell whosoever The Way of Salvation. Help them with whatever, whenever, possible and Right. The debt is paid by His Blood. We are Washed,Baptized with His Spirit, We are completely Changed.---I say unto you he that believeth on me,the works that I do shall he do also--- John 14:12. We are on The Same Mission
  • Walking with Jesus on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
To follow Jesus is to deny yourself all of your lifelong vanity to preserve your way of life, which all previous generations who came before have prescribed for us. As Jesus has depended on God for his sustenance, can we do the same? Our mission isn't the same as his. We are called to turn from the wickedness of this world in this time and place and to decry hypocrisy in high places. Peace.

How do we pray? Matthew 6:5-13 the Lord Jesus tells us exactly: first; not to do so as an actor under an assumed character to put on or give a false or misleading appearance to conceal one's true nature, motives or thoughts - NOT as a hypocrite! Not for fondness of praise from others in Church or on the streets; Not for "giving light to others;" Not as the heathen, acting out of superstition.
  • Allen on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
The Lord's Prayer teaches us not to be selfish in our prayers,i.e making a prayer that is too much self centered without giving praise to God for his glory.

Irene: Did The Lord Say:But seek ye first The Kingdom of God and His Righteous; and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33,or no seeking need. Just love! Changing scripture! Where does that come from? (You know)Do not add or take away? Both has been done. And you say it's "ok"? We who are Washed by The Blood,Preach The Word as Written as much as possible.

Verse 33 shows that we need to put Jehovah God first in our lives. Material things have their place, but not first place.
  • Bruce on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
5757:Yes, it is. You're right lent is not in the Bible. There is only one thing we could give up that The Lord desires of us. "Our Heart" We will be made new. 2Corinthians 5:17/Washed Revelation1:5/ You will beBaptized with The Holy Ghost: Matthew 3:11. / When: John 6:44, 1 John 1:9. / Which way is Right? Matthew 7:13-14.
  • Marcia 5757 on Matthew 6 - 7 years ago
Isn't let more a Catholic thing? Not sure, but I agree that I don't remember lent being taught in bible or by Christ himself. Either way, we're not saved by works. Fasting and prayer, daily bible reading, time spent with God is a personal and individual walk. Although it is good too be in fellowship with like minded believers. To come together in prayer and (fast When GOD Desires it of you).
