"Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets." THE GOLDEN RULE Not only for our behavior toward each other; (which truly would make a very wonderful world); but it has to do directly with the kind of divine character we ask from God for ourselves, and the way of life reflecting that grace without hypocrisy.

"Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine," We've most often heard this phrase used about speaking to those whom we would judge unfit for our holy words and wisdom from God. But in the context of how the Lord said it; its about our hypocrisy causing scandal to the holy name of Jesus, and the precious treasure of His Gospel that we've been entrusted with.
  • Brianna vs. 6-8 on Matthew 7 - 7 years ago
Even while Jesus Christ was on this very earth, religious leaders were corrupting the word of God and sticking to traditions rather than the scriptures. To this very day it has only gotten worse. Friends, we must study the scriptures. We can not rely solely on those claiming to be men of God. If we study our Bibles we can know the truth, and be truly content while we await salvation.

Verse 4 shows the importance of self-examination. We can become so focused on the flaws of others that we miss major faults of our own.

Brother Hiram; Maybe you haven't quite got your wording? The whole point of this Sermon on the mount is to show by our works out of a pure heart and a good conscience, what is the true grace of God. It is all by our works that we shall be judged; (read Matt. 25); and it is all by the quality of our faith that our works are acted out and that which shows us either wise or stupid as proven by trial.
  • Hiram Ramlall on Matthew 7 - 7 years ago
Matthew 7:21-23 is explaining salvation by faith alone
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. What is God's will? John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life:

Who has ears to hear? Is it not those that enter at the strait gate, meaning difficult, not linear. These teachings are not from one who possesses an ego or has ulterior motives. No, they are the truth from God which are purified seven times as silver from dross, with fire. There is no controversy. Hear and perform these commandments or suffer the fate of a hypocrite. Be not like the phonies

You are quite the 'naysayer'. Being a Christian we are to lift each other up. Jesus' church of Acts ch. 2 - is still here. You just told people there is no hope by saying there are no churches that preach truth anymore. I've got a feeling you've been in 'contact' with His church ....... ? The one that preaches Acts 2:38 for salvation.
  • Daniel on Matthew 7 - 7 years ago
Mt 7:21ff teaches about being careful thinking that we can perform miracles yet neglect the main purpose which is to exposit God's word with full respect and truth. Many of us are driven by miracle performers who don't even dare to prepare or study God's word. Good preaching does not exist anymore in churches. Lets go back to basics.

Peggy: I do not know what bible you read from but the KJV Matthew 7 : 1 reads (Judge not that ye be not judged) Go to the KJV original bible of 1611 it also reads the same. Good study. Have a good day.

Matthew 7:1- This verse used to read- Judge not, lest ye be judged. But now it reads Judge not,
that ye be not judged. This verse has been changed. In our church Christmas play (2016), this verse was said how it used to read with the word lest.

I like the chapter because there many great advice in it for example v4_5 we are to example our clearfully and remove whatever problems we are struggling with before we try to help others with theirs . Verses 7 and 8 admonish us to open our mouths an simple ask and we shall receive , behold him and he will open unto us .
    A-Ask
    S-seek
    K-knock
He gives freely but we must do one thing ask.
  • Bruce on Matthew 7 - 8 years ago
Authority to judge? He doesn't say don't ever judge but be careful how. v:2-5,to who v:6,watch out v:15,how will you know v:16. Just like sheep will get tangled up or stuck in mud. Don't say I will never be in that mess I would never say or do that! I'm glad I'm not like you! For by what judgment you use you will be judged. By their fruits you know v:20. Don't push them deeper but lift them up!
