Mr. Jone's comment is off base as Christ is the only way. However, we seek to add to what Christ did for us and that is quite unacceptable to God. It is His way through His Son Jesus Christ or you will be entering in the wide gate unto eternal death.

  • Ron on Matthew 7 - 12 years ago
You are correct. We all must make judgments in life. A Christian has to be discerning about his life. what these verses are teaching is that we are to judge ourselves first and we are not to judge others harshly. We should judge others as we would want to be judged.
  • Betty on Matthew 7:1 - 12 years ago
I have a problem with understanding just what this verse means. We all make judgments in life in that we would not want to be in the company of a liar, drug addict, or criminal. How can that be considered being a judge?

Authority is a strange thing. It is established by those who have authority over you. Some say their father is God but I say their father is the devil. Other recognize the authority in me. The devil has been cast out of heaven and is now on earth seeking whom he may devour. I have given him this right on account that he asked for it. The people he may devour are those who are in the church. Come out of her my children lest you receive the curses upon it. Jesus said that the father sent him and he obeyed. Now I say that Jesus sent me and I obeyed. I just returned the favor I owed him. I am the father returned as Elijah his favorite hard core prophet. I have authority over all. Try me! He who thinks ill of this shall reap the curse. He who fears me shall be blessed. This is tough love which this earth needs.

Verse 12 is what is also known as the "Golden Rule." Just imagine if every person on this earth applied this verse. The major atrocities that we see in this world would be minimized if not completely eliminated. Although many people know of or have heard of the "Golden Rule" not too many people apply it. It just goes to show that more than knowledge of what is right is needed. One must also put that knowledge into practice to see the full benefits.

(This is my response to Albert Mould-Shalom's comment dated 8/12/2013 at 3:47am on John Chapter 5 about verse 25):

I beg to disagree of what you said that, "No matter how deep in SIN one may be; no matter what one may have DONE, whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved". Because the TRUTH is Our Lord Jesus Christ himself shall DENY him as what was written in Matthew 7:21-23, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that DOETH the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that WORK INIQUITY". Understand what was written in 2Peter 2:20-22, "For if after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, they are again entangled therein, and overcome, the latter end is worse with them than the beginning. For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them. But it is happened unto them according to the true proverb, The dog is turned to his own vomit again; and the sow that was washed to her wallowing in the mire".

we should put off self righteous attitude. more righteous than i attitude and learnt to acknowledge that we are not better than the worst sinners, the very attitude of the pharisees for which Christ scolded them. Also learnt to ask of the lord with all humility everything you need that will be in accordance with his own will. do not rely on your strenght to do it. may the good lord bless our effort. he is the lord who is pleased when his children prospers.

  • Althea on Matthew 7 - 12 years ago
God wants us to be humble. If we are judges for our own actions then we won't be harsh on others. We are not perfect but we must endeavour to walk uprightly and live Christ like. I have learnt that Humility leads to meekness and in Matthew Chapter 5 these are valuable attributes to inherit the Kingdom of God. Blessings and peace be with you.

any bible reader without the spirit could be described as the false prophet , for only the one that the father GOD abides in can rightfully speak on GODS WORD.
  • Joyce on Matthew 7:14 - 12 years ago
The narrow way that leads to godly living for YAHWEH .. we no longer live to satisfy our own desires but God's. he is a new creation in CHRIST apart from Him we can do nothing. John 3 New Birth JESUS said unless you are born of water & the spirit, you cannot see nor enter into the kingdom of God

Matthew (7:21-23)21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Why did Jesus (PBUH) gives such a reply to his own people.?

I believe what you are saying is answered in Matthew 7:7

Matthew 7:7 - Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
  • Martha Prince on Matthew 7 - 13 years ago
I think Luke 6:42 explains it quite clearly.
Luke 6:42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye.

In other words we should look at ourselves and our own faults first.
  • Dan on Matthew 7:3 - 13 years ago
When combined with Verses 1 & 2, the major concept seems to be a discussion of hypocrisy. "1 Do not judge, or you too will be judged. 2 For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

All of the individual points have merit on their own, but the true power of the lesson is when they are all combined.

When the above verses are cross-referenced to John 8:7 the entire concept and truth can be fully understood. In John 8:7, a prostitute was about to be stoned to death for adultery. Jesus intervened, and the crowd began questioning him. John 8:7 says, (paraphrased) "When the crowd continued to question Jesus, he stood up and said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."

In the end, the lesson is that we are ALL sinners and fall short of God's glory. And since none of us is perfect, who are we to harshly judge others? Upon examination and reflection, few would want to be judged themselves with the same voracity that they judge others.
  • Stephanie on Matthew 7:1 - 13 years ago
I think that noone has the right to judge other people because they may not share the same opinion as you do are you think there way is not right.the only right way is God way no if and about it.
  • Maureen on Matthew 7 - 13 years ago
This chapter 7 has really touched me. We as Christians should preach the word of God every where and bring forth true believers and worshippers closer to God.
  • ALONZO SMITH on Matthew 7:14 - 13 years ago
I think if you believe in Jesus Christ and believe that he died on the cross, for you and me, and confess that he is lord, and work toward the mark, and live with in him and follow the path of righteousness. That is all that we ought to do.
