    Hi Cheryl.

Chapters 1,2,and 3 speaks of Judgment coming upon Israel.

In verse 16 he asked that they cut off the hair of their children. This is a sign of deep mourning. The Assyrian was coming and thy took the children first.

Micah 1:16. "Make thee bald, and poll thee for thy delicate children; enlarge thy baldness as the eagle; for they are gone into captivity from thee."

We see this display of mourning in Isaiah 15:2

"He is gone up to Bajith, and to Dibon, the high places, to weep: Moab shall howl over Nebo, and over Medeba: on all their heads shall be baldness, and every beard cut off."

You have the reason of this Judgment in ch 2.

    I hope this helps.

    God bless.

I have a question ; what is the meaning of verses 14 thru 16
  • Chris - In Reply on Micah 1 - 2 years ago
Hello Herbert. The whole book of Micah contains God's Message, primarily to Judah, but also concerning Israel. Was there something in particular that you were thinking of? I can give you a brief breakdown of the Book, as you go through it yourself.

    1. Micah 1:1. The following prophecy that God gave to Micah.

    2. Micah 1:2-2:13. God's Message of destruction for Samaria & Judah.

    3. Micah 3:1-5:15. Message of coming judgements on the rulers, false prophets, & on Jerusalem (3:1-12). Of deliverance (in the coming Kingdom): 4:1-5:1. This deliverance by the coming King, both in His first & second comings (5:2-15).

    4. Micah 6:1-7:10. God's two Messages of Denunciation & Israel's two replies to God.

    5. Micah 7:11-20. Blessings for Israel.

Keeping those general headings in mind, you may find that re-reading the Book will help you to see the various messages that God had for Judah & Israel by his prophet Micah.

    Micheal,

"O thou inhabitant of Lachish, bind the chariot to the swift beast: she is the beginning of the sin to the daughter of Zion: for the transgressions of Israel were found in thee." Mic 1:13 (KJVA)

Apparently the people of Lachish participated in worshiping other gods, just as the 10 northern tribes, Israel, under King Jeroboam did, which lead to Jerusalem, the center of worship in Judah, to also begin idol worship.

God is giving Judah warning about their idolatry just as He gave Israel warning. Israel failed to repent and God sent the Assyrians in about 722 BC who took the people of the 10 northern tribes and dispersed them among the nation: the lost tribes of Israel. Judah did not repent either, a subsequent to Micah's prophecy in 606 BC, Judah was attacked by the Babylonians and many were deported to Babylon and Jerusalem was destroyed.

There is only one Lord and his name is Emanuel. (of God). Lord means one who has dominion over you and is your saviour and master. We should never give Satan any such title for he is destined to eternal damnation.

The prophet Micah has to deliver the strong message of judgment as the poor people are being abused by the rich. The famous verse Micah 6:8 What does Yahweh demand of thee? to do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly before our God. This is the message that is needed today with the income inequality that is happening. May God bless the President to do just that in his administration. God bless America and may we come out of this Coronavirus pandemic a more blessed and thankful people as we prepare to celebrate the Holidays.

Greg, as with all the prophets sent by God to pronounce judgement on the evils by His people, Micah too, proclaimed God's displeasure for that particular duration of his prophetical utterances. So from Micah 1:1, we see Micah sent as a prophet to Judah during the successive reigns of Kings Jotham, Ahaz & Hezekiah. Prior to Micah, the prophet Amos preached & after Micah, came Isaiah.

So the 'misbehaviour' that Micah referred to was during the reigns of these three kings. Jothan & Hezekiah were generally considered to be 'good' kings, unlike Ahaz. For the common poor Israelite, they encountered much harassment from enemy armies, also of hardship by the exploitation from the wealthy amongst them (2:1-13), oppression by their rulers (3:1-4) & the many false prophets who misled them from the Truth (3:5-8). Micah, as did Amos, proclaimed judgement on the people as well as crying for social justice. And of course, apart from the sorrows that came to the people at the time, ultimately Judah went into the Babylonian captivity for failure to abide by God's requirements.

If you can't find anything on your question; consider this:

    2 Thessalonians Chapter 2

7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming:

9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders,

10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.

(Mishael). If this is from the Lord, it will be confirmed in Scripture, or by 2-3 witnesses.

In the meantime, I would let it go. God will confirm His Word. No confirmation=lying wonder.

From my research, Moreshethgath is actually a city (maybe more like a township) of Israel (of olden times). The prophet Micah was said to come from there, as he is referred to as Micah, the Morasthite, which is name given to its inhabitants. From the map, it is located roughly between the Dead Sea & Ashkelon.

In Micah 1:14, WHO is Moreshethgath? Is that an idol or god of the people?

When the Bible speaks of evil coming from the Lord, as in this place and others, It declares God's activity of bringing great judgment upon people often for their gross sins and rejection of God's covenant and grace. God does not do evil as we sometime equate the word with sin, but his judgments are felt as pain and trouble to sinners and this pain and trouble is called evil.

Verse 4 shows the immense amount of power that Jehovah God has. Imagine something as solid and stable as a mountain melting like candle wax because of the intensity of God's burning anger.

"For the transgression of Jacob is all this, and for the sins of the house of Israel." If it be so with the Chosen Nation and the House that is called by the LORD's Name; shall it not be the same with those who have been grafted in, when they do the same things? In the world of the beginning it was the apostasy and sin of the "sons of God" that CAUSED the whole world to be filled with corruption!

"..I will pour down the stones thereof into the valley, and I will discover the foundations thereof: and all the graven images thereof shall be beaten to pieces, and all the hires thereof shall be burned with the fire, and all the idols thereof will I lay desolate.." In turning away from all hearing of the Spirit of truth and refusing instruction shall the foundations be discovered and overthrown.

Micah written at the same time as Isaiah. This prophet wrote to both houses, Israel and Judah. Israel scattered and make up the Christian Nations today and as you see that if you love Christ as a Nation you are blessed. When it speaks of the threatening of God it is speaking of what will happen to evil on earth, burned off. 7th trump. Those that waited for the true Christ are in good standing.
