Verse 4 can have 2 different meanings. People view the eagle as the symbol of America just as they view Russia as a bear. Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle can mean a nation that has an equal air force to the one that America has. They are LIKE America. This could be a nation that has an equal military power with information serviced by satellites so they know what is happening around the world. So this verse could be speaking of America but it might be speaking of an enemy nation of equal strength.

Mount Zion is the Church of Christ, the Body of Christ and in Christ the children of God will receive deliverance from oppressive forces of the agents of darkness and through deliverance the children of God will get to their land of milk and honey.

From what I gathered this chapter talks about people in high places with the power to do good but choose to deceive the common man and take what the common man has for their greater gain. The phrase eagle expresses a keen sight of power and high shows the strenght verses the ground. To eat bread with someone show a sign of trust or admiration like someone of high authority or respected man. Deceive displays how the man of high can play on the foolishness of the common man. As it is put the LORD will empower forces strenghtening the common man to go to battle with the elite or more powerful man, because the high and more powerful pray of the weak and foolish. Genesis spoke God gave this land to man for only one price that he will die on it after life and for no other price or amount of money, if it is our father 's inheritance we should live freely hence the phase foreigners. At the end of our time as man this land will still belong to GOD and all our evil doing for material gain will be nothing but wasted times of a spiteful game of deceiving your weak because loving brothers.

Though small and despised, Israel shall remain high amongst all nations, so the book of Obadiah might seem small bt it holds alot in form of prophesy,,,,

I 'm a little amazed that none of you Bible geniuses have said anything about AMERICA. And it 's judgement. "2 Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen thou art greatly despised. 3 The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? 4 Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD. "

As a Chosen and a royal priesthood, if you weigh balance yourself on God's word daily then your Deliverance is ensured.

I have yet to see a good in-depth commentary on the book of Obadiah, not even a You Tube video. What I have seen explains it as a book of history rather than futuristic prophecy.

Since Chapter 1 predicts these events to take place just prior to the "Day of The Lord" (Tribulation), it is obvious to me that it's futuristic. I am also of the belief that it's akin and detailed version to Psalm 83.

If you can get to Mount Zion, your deliverance is sure. Mount Zion is therefore a house of testimony, it is a warehouse of testimony.

Are our hurts like Edom? Are we right in criticizing our religious orders? Is not judgment for God? The archangel Micheal could had complained a lot about Satan but he otherwise said "God rebukes you” Jude 1. We must be careful to murmur or rise up against God's chosen. Amen.
  • Andrew on Obadiah 1 - 12 years ago
Obadiah is a servant given the insight of things to come. He was telling what was written in his heart of that which God gave him. A Warning and judgement to be carried out. Touch not My anointed, said the Lord. Jacob is one of the fathers whom was deceived and treated like a stranger among his own. The mount of Esau and the people shall be slaughtered. Still God had mercy to the innocent.
  • Julianna Winsor on Obadiah 1 - 12 years ago
Saviours shall arise upon the mount of Esau, and the kingdom shall be the Lord's. We pray, "God, may Your kingdom come," and therewith rise to heroic deeds.
We should pray, "Lord God our Father, may Thy kingdom soon come"--[and take authority, extend its rule through being lovingly accepted in individual hearts]. And we should be heroic, especially in the cause of those whose hearts are loyally His.

Edom is not Russia, it is the United States. Obadiah 1:4 Though you soar like the eagle and make your nest among the stars, from there I will bring you down," declares the LORD. The Astronauts quote, "The Eagle has landed"' refers to this chapter. 9/11 is the bringing down to ground zero. Just like Israel is a remnant from the nations, the United states is a remnant from the nations. (BARRING YOUR NOT A HOLOCAUST DENIER). The native Americans were given 30 dollars ransom for George as sent to the trail of tears. when all is fulfilled the Indian Nation and Israel will finally be accepted as nations in the UN...And Palestine will understand what David meant after they saved his life, when he told them, "Surely you have a place in Israel." The key word is IN...not a separate state from Israel.

    Edom is Iran, not Russia.
  • Itsme Thistime on Obadiah 1 - 12 years ago
Esau or Edom refers to Russia (the name Russia comes from the term "chief prince", Esau being the first-born of Isaac) Edom meaning "red" or "of blood" and Jacob "heel grabber" refers to the 12 tribes of Isreal. The 10 northern tribes were taken captive by the assyrian over the caucasus mountains and later settled Europe and the Americas (this is why were are called caucasians) The final battle between these "brothers" will occur at the battle of hamongog (meaning "burial ground of Gog, Gog being another name for Russia) wherein God does the fighting by sending 180lb hail stones to destroy the army of Gog, or Russia, as they attempt to attack Israel, or America.

Jacob represents the Spririt, and Esau the flesh. The promise was only to Jacob, but Esau had no right to obtain or partake of the inheiritance or the things of God because he was cut off. This chapter is a good example of the conflict of the flesh and Spirit, and helps us to know that the flesh will be abased.
