The day of Christ is mentioned 3 times in the KJV bible, Philippians 1:10 Philippians 2:16 2 Thessalonians 2:2, and the coming of the Lord, James 5:7 - 5:8 2 Thessalonians 2:1. We all should be waiting for the day of Christ, and not the Day of the LORD, both are totally different. Please read 2 Peter 3:10, Amos 5:18, and Amos 5:20, we should not to be hoping or waiting for the Day of the LORD.

I believe the Apostle Paul is telling his readers to never retire in the faith. Always preach the Gospel in some sort of way that reflects the love of Jesus Christ. We as Christians should never put down our tools of faith that God has given to us. We should remain focus on the call that God has ordained us to have. The easy chair and house coat Christian need not apply in this letter!

Philippians 1:17 But the other of love, knowing that I am set for the defence of the gospel. Apostle Paul will defend his gospel that Jesus reveal to him.
  • Ray321 on Ephesians 6 - 8 years ago
Philippians 1:16 The one preach Christ of contention, not sincerely, supposing to add affliction to my bonds: Paul was having problems with others preaching another gospel that wasn't his that Jesus reveal to him.

Ephesians 1:13 13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise. We must BELIEVE gospel of Salvation 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 and be saved and God will sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise. Amen

There are plenty of examples in the New Testament about the need to continue in the grace of God and the need to hold fast that which we have that we lose not the things we have wrought. Look at Ephesus for example; first and chief of the seven chosen from Asia: yet with all their great success they were in danger of their Candlestick being removed out of its place for forgetting their First Love!
  • A disciple on Philippians 1 - 8 years ago
Ray; sorry brother, you're wrong about that one. We have to continue on firm and steadfast, and not let slip away from our heart and mind the things we have wrought in the Lord. As long as we wake up each day in this present evil world, we will need to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, with earnest striving and diligence, about the business of the Glad Tidings, and the time at hand!

1 Samuel 16:14 But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. Back in the old testament a man of God can loose the Holy Spirit if he sins, but now that Jesus died and finished on the cross, a saved born again child of God will never loose the Holy Spirit. A saved person that sins will grieve the Holy Spirit, it's still there inside. Love Jesus

Dear Bro. Ray; Paul was a thoroughly converted man, mightily filled with the Holy Ghost and wisdom from the Lord. God doesn't give this to a man who is still sinning, or letting the Spirit "fade away" out of his life! Being in the flesh, as he was referring to, is about our life in this present existence, NOT still sinning! Paul was talking about staying here or leaving to be with the Lord.
  • Ray321 on Philippians 1 - 8 years ago
Paul in this chapter was telling us that he was still a sinner. 22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not. 23 For I am in a strait betwixt two, having a desire to depart, and to be with Christ which is far better. It is easy to live by the flesh, but thank God for the Holy Spirit that lives inside us that are born again child of God. Praise

I said,"In the light of Philippians 1:27" My question was rhetorical=asked in order to make a statement rather than to get an answer. I was bringing it into the light for those here that say"believe whatever you want, as long as you are under the blood you are saved" and comments to that affect. I do know the answer, and thank you for your input.I hope others will give it serious consideration.
  • A disciple on Philippians 1 - 9 years ago
Hi Lu2677; but you already know the answer to that: the Lord commands us to be of the same mind, and to all speak the same thing; on Spirit, one Lord, one Father, one faith, one baptism, etc. There as many reasons as there are divisions, but they are all disapproved by God; just as He has given us His one Word. As there's only one true way of being converted and saved; there can only be one way!
  • Bruce on Philippians 1 - 9 years ago
Lu: your question is just a little ambiguous? In The Body, there are multitudes of different people brought up differently. They eat different foods, dress differently. But there's Only One Body,One Savior,One Way. Different Beliefs not ok. / in the churches, are many, many multitudes. That build their belief around Their Sins. The more oks! The better they feel./ Only The Blood of The Lamb Saves.

We are his beloved children Keep reading> The Lord Jesus said he would send us his spirit to teach us

In light of Philippians 1:27 Why do people say it is "ok" to have different beliefs, in the body of Christ?
  • Irene123 on Philippians 1 - 9 years ago
    Philip. 1:27 - Only let your conversation be as it becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel;

I believe the book of Phillipians is a book about the trials Paul encountered when he was in prison. His only hope was Jesus Christ, while in prison he did a lot of praying and soul searching.
