Discuss Psalms 119

    Brother Richard:

The word says that scripture has to be understood by applying other scriptures to it.

The NEW COVENANT, the gospel, was preached to THEM as well as unto US.

John 4:22 Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship, salvation is of the Jews.

Romans 2:29 For he is a JEW, which is one inwardly, and circumcision is in the heart, IN THE SPIRIT .....

Romans 8:2 For the LAW OF THE SPIRIT OF LIFE IN CHRIST, has made us free from the LAW of sin and DEATH ...

This same gospel was preached to them as well as us.

Psalms 119:1 Blessed are the UNDEFILED in the way ( John 14:6) who WALK in the LAW OF the LORD ( Romans 8:2).

Ezekiel 36:27 I will put my Spirit in you and cause you to WALK in my STATUTES, and keep my judgements and DO THEM.

Psalms 119:3 They also do no iniquity: they walk in HIS WAYS.

Psalms 119:5 Oh that my ways were directed to keep thy STATUTES!

The Spirit CAUSES us TO DO his will, the words that come out of our mouth, are his words, the works of our hands, are his works.

Isaiah 48:18 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this, I have not spoken in secret from the beginning, from the time that it was, there am I, and HIS SPIRIT HAS SENT ME ( Romans 8:2).

John 14:24 ...and the word ye hear are not mine, but the Father's which sent me ....

Mark 10:8 And they TWAIN shall be ONE FLESH: so they are no more TWAIN, but ONE FLESH ...

The same SPIRIT that sent Christ and raised him up, and we as JOINT HEIRS, abides in us, our words are not ours by the Father's that anoints us.

The wages if UNBELIEF is DEATH.

The GIFT of BELIEF is IMMORTAL LIFE.

1 Timothy 6:16 .... Christ ONLY hath IMMORTAL LIFE......

    God BLESS YOU!

    Part 2

-Wherefore When He died at the cross and purge our sins By Himself and rose on the Third day, He gave gifts unto men to be apostles, prophets, evangelist pastors and some to be teachers. ( Ephesians 4:7, KJV) This is clearly seen across different churches and in many Christians who have repented of their sins at the cross and believed in the Lord Jesus Christ the son of the Living God.

    - It is also important to note that God put his power in Moses' rode, but it was upon Moses to pick it and use it. but according to Gods will ( exodus 4:1-3, KJV)

And Remember Elijah a man like us tempted like we are but prayed earnestly and the rain ceased and yet Elijah was a man like us ( James 5:17, KJV)

-The writer of the Book James clearly point this out to all Christians (those who have repented at the cross and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ the Son of the Living God) they that take head according to the word of God ( Psalms 119:9, KJV)

-That if there is anyone sick, let him call the elders of the church to pray for him anointing him with oil in the name of The Lord and the prayer of FAITH will save the sick and if he has committed sin the Lord will forgive Him.

-Moreover, in James 5:16, KJV) God clearly points this to us that we are to confess our trespasses to one other and to pray for one other that we may be Healed.

-For if we confess our sins to each other, we will remain humble in the Lord and when we pray with earnestly before God without doubting ( 1 timothy 2:8, KJV) the Lord is faithful who will also do it

Remember prayer is not a shopping list but worshiping the Lord God with Your heart mind and soul.

    The conclusion of the matter.

-The Lord still heals the blind, heals the sick and raises the dead according to the Scriptures.

And He does not change but we me and you we change and if we pray in mockery and be covetous in ministry.

-Prophesying for attention picking and choosing the portions of the Scriptures that we want to believe

    Jcubria,

You are welcome to believe in the "Believer's Bible Commentary".Marion, IA: Laridian, Inc., 2021.

I choose to follow the God's Holy Bible KJB, and be instructed by God's Holy Spirit. I will listen to Jesus/God when he tells me to be obedient and pick my cross Matt 16:24.

I really hope you will open you heart to the true scriptures, instead of spreading man's interpretation of the scriptures as you are doing above. If/when you really pick up your cross, you will be under God's influence and His Holy Spirit - as opposed to mans/satans influence, and you will begin to learn to become obedient to God's TRUE commands, and when you do - you will know, Psalms 119:35 as you will be blessed when you DO, and you will be reprimanded when you DON"T. Proverbs 28:9 John 5:14

Learn to Fear God, this is the beginning of Wisdom! Proverbs 9:10

    Additionally GiGi,

These are but a tiny sampling of what God declares about His WORD, the BIBLE.

Psalms 78:1 Give ear, O my people, to my law: incline your ears to the WORDS of my mouth.

Psalms 119:151,152 Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are TRUTH. Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever.

John 6:63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the WORDS that I speak unto you, they are SPIRIT, and they are LIFE.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every WORD that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my WORDS shall not pass away.

Mark 8:38 Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my WORDS in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.

    Luke 1:1,2 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us, Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the WORD;

Luke 11:28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the WORD of God, and keep it.

John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the WORDS of eternal life.

Acts 19:20 So mightily grew the WORD of God and prevailed.

Acts 12:24 But the WORD of God grew and multiplied.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the WORD of God.

    Friend,

You says, Paul was an exception to the rule? Would you please prove this by the Scriptures.

You says, Jesus comes into my heart, should be taken figuratively? 1Cor 3:16,17 2Cor 13:5 Col 1:27 Ephesians 2:22 Where else could He desire to be but within our heart, the seat & center of our very being. Proverbs 4:23 1Samuel 16:17

    You say this sounds strange?

Consider also John 17:21-24 the oneness & unity that God desires to have with His people, this is what God has set His heart on Jeremiah 32:40,41 & made available thru the NC; this is a God, that has said, with all His heart & soul ! Come on; have a little faith.

We're heirs of God & joint heirs of Christ, it is God Himself that is our inheritance Psalms 119:57 Psalms 73:26

You says, not by one staying home & God teaching him. This is exactly what God has done through the spiritual writing of the Quakers, specifically from 1646-1700 through the gifts Christ gave His church; in their writing I discover the intent of God's heart to cleanse one from all sin, & being united with God through Christ, which the Scriptures so manifestly declares & how God accomplishes it. Isa 64:4 1Cor 2:9 Psalms 130:5 I'm talking about that Word that is Rom 10:8 that comes by 10:17 Meaning Christ spiritual appearance within conscience/heart John 1:9 Titus 2:11 Obeying His Father commands 2Cor 4:6 which is the Treasure we have in these earthen vessels. 2Cor 4:7 to know the things that are freely given to us 1Cor 2:12

    David

"what I believe the Bible declares"

    This is just the point David,I've been making all alone. Faith does not come by reading, studying, pastor preaching, Sunday school, etc: Its comes by Rom 10:17; this is the faith that Paul preached, speaking to you personally within your heart. These others maybe good execises to support & encourage if there inspired by Holy Spirit. But it cannot stand alone or take the place of having a personal relationship with Jesus, & this is what God has set His heart upon. John 14:21,23,26; John 17:21,22,23; Our faith is cannot be base on other people experinences, though ever be so helpful. In the work of regeneration we come to 1John 1:1-4 Here John is speaking of His Spirit appearance within our hearts, the Life/Light was manifested, Grace appearance. As we diligently hearken to His still small Voice we come to experiential knowledge of the Lord, 1John 5:20; "we have heard, seen with our eyes & have looked upon & our hands have handled of the Word of Life, spiritually, in this working out of our salvation. Hebrews 9:28; 2Cor 4:6,7; that the excellency to the Power to understand & receive the things of God, is of God & not of ourselves. John 3:27; We come to know His mind/will & good pleasure. Its what King David experience in Psalm 119:130; it what made him more wiser than his teacher Psalms 119:99; it was his Psalm 119:105; Psalm 123:2; Psalm 59:9; Psalm 69:3 & he commands his soul to wait upon the Lord Psalm 62:5; its call in Scripture the Key of David, Rev 3:7; He alone can Rev 5:2,5; Isa 22:22: He is the Treasure we have in these earthen vessel. Col 1:26,27,28; 1 Cor 2:12;

Blessing to you, you have a great desire & a zeal David.

Donna, you have a lot of good points there. I however believe God did make His word easy to understand, as long as you are coming to it as a child and not a Pharisee. Psalms 119:130 "The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple."

If there are things I don't understand in the bible, I set it aside and come back to it later, I pray for understanding.

I have two Strong's sitting on a shelf collecting dust. I can't rationalize taking an English word, going back to Hebrew or Greek, to get the English meaning. I personally believe the KJV transcribers did a good job.

Also, Jesus gives us a lot of information, when the apostles didn't understand what He was teaching, Jesus broke it down for them....and for us.

It actually melts my heart when I think of how God loved us so much, He gave us His Word, Jesus said that it would be published among all nations. So, everyone, from the farmer to the King of England could read His Word, and if they have eyes to see and ears to hear, they might also understand.

    God Bless

    1John 4:18, Revelation 21:6-8, 1John 4:1-3,

Do you believe John 3:16 ? Do you believe GOD can heal? Do you believe GOD can change everything? Do you believe man who spoke those words over you, or GOD ALMIGHTY that created you!? Be Healed be delivered

    Trust GOD

    James 1:5, Romans 10:17, James 4:7, Luke 11:9-13,

Nick 34, You're saying only when you pray or read the Bible; the scripture says pray without ceasing 1Thessalonians 5:17. Lay the word on your heart & in your soul, bind on your hand, in front of your eyes, to talk about them often, with your children when sitting, walking along, when laying down, the WORD of GOD, Deuteronomy 11:18-20, Psalms 119:11,

Is it a spiritual attack to keep you from reading, praying & learning of a Loving Creator our Loving Father in Heaven? Or is it the HOLY Spirit bringing conviction of sin? If it's not peace that is present, your relationship needs work, possibly. Even Isaiah a Prophet of GOD, had to repent to be close to GOD's presence: Isaiah 1:6, These should be helpful

    Brother David:

Job is a PROPHECY of Christ.

Job 2:3 And the LORD (God the Father) said unto Satan ( John 8:44 and his children, all flesh and blood), Hast thou considered my servant Job (a metaphor for Christ) that there is none like him (Christ) in the earth, a perfect and upright man (Christ), one (Christ) that feareth God (the Father), and escheweth evil? and he (Christ) still holdest fast his integrity, although thou (Satan and his children, flesh and blood)) movest ME (God the Father) AGAINST HIM (Christ), to DESTROY HIM (Christ) WITHOUT A CAUSE.

Psalms 119:161 Princes ( 1 Corinthians 2:6-8 of this world, Children of Satan) have persecuted me (Christ) WITHOUT A CAUSE, but I (Christ) stand in awe of the (Father's) word.

John 15:25 But THIS (Christ death and resurrection) COMETH TO PASS, that the WORD might be FULFILLED that is written in their law, They hated me WITHOUT A CAUSE.

    God Bless You.

    Grae:

Peace and grace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Thank you for the opportunity to have a dip at the tip of my tongue "of the cup that Jesus Christ drink of".

God forbid I would hurt the pure. I love all the saints. I pray for the fullness of the Gentiles and that ALL be saved and sanctified by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

    Mark 10:39

And they said unto him, We can. And Jesus said unto them, Ye shall indeed drink of the cup that I drink of; and with the baptism that I am baptized withal shall ye be baptized:

    Matthew 20:23

And he saith unto them, Ye shall drink indeed of my cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on my right hand, and on my left, is not mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of my Father.

    Matthew 5:8

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

    Titus 1:15

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.

    Psalms 119:2

Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.

    Psalms 118:28

Thou art my God, and I will praise thee: thou art my God, I will exalt thee.
  • Adam - In Reply - 2 years ago
Earl, you have a unique interpretation of the Bible.

Everything is God's Will, period. It's God's will to give man freewill. God is big and powerful enough to do this, even if people can't understand it and still want to deny it. God also is big and powerful enough to change His mind and let things play out, as the Bible says in Exodus 32:14, Genesis 18:32, and over a dozen other examples.

Maybe you believe you are a puppet or marionette 100% controlled by God. Did God force you to write this post beyond your will? Does God force you to eat at certain foods you dislike or do things you don't want to do throughout the day? Does he force you to take showers or use restrooms at random times when you don't want to? Are you a prisoner? If so, does this also mean you are perfect just like Jesus and don't sin? Have you ever lied to someone in your lifetime? If so, was that God forcing you to sin or was it 100% you? God doesn't cause anyone to sin ever.

None of the above applies to me as God blessed me with 100% freewill and I try very hard to use that for good and to serve the Lord. But like Paul who faced huge temptation and struggled, I wrestle with these daily choices and decisions and sometimes I make mistakes but repent and try hard to get back on track. Paul said to run the race, not to ignore the race and sit on the couch. Christianity is an active faith, not passive. Nearly every challenge in the Bible is for us to take action and make choices. Many are warnings about choosing good instead of evil.

    Freewill that God gives man:

    Psalms 119:108

    Joshua 24:15

    Philippians 1:22

    Joshua 24:14-15

Matthew 25:25-30 - Jesus's parable of talents God condemned the lazy servant who choose poorly through fear. The Bible is filled with challenges of choosing to follow God instead of choosing to follow the world.

I find it unusual that you don't believe you have any freewill to make any decisions and are merely a puppet? Is that true? Have you prayed about this? God bless.

Thanks Susan for confirming that it was Psalm 119 you're looking at. As for the "references", I'm unsure whether you're wanting to know what each group within this Psalm refers to, or, what these verses are speaking of.

Since this Psalm doesn't indicate an author, it would be difficult to place verses with a particular event in the Bible. The Psalmist only knows his situation & he is sharing his testimonies & observations about it.

However, and sharing very generally here, each group of verses in the Psalm are written under each successive letter of the Hebrew alphabet. So verses 49 to 56 (Zain), 57 to 64 (Cheth), & 65 to 72 (Teth) are seen. The whole Psalm has a central thought that it is only God's Word that contains everything a person needs to know. And to complement this belief, the Psalmist uses various words for the Word or Law of God; namely: Law, Testimonies, Precepts, Statutes, Commandments, Judgements, Word and Path. And at least one of these words can be seen in each stanza (grouping). Each of these terms has a specific meaning, especially to Hebrew readers, & together in the Psalm, they give an understanding of what the Psalmist is trying to emphasize about the world (both personal & corporate).

I'm sorry if what I've shared doesn't really answer your question. Anything more than this, would require much detail about the verses themselves, and I'm unsure whether that's what you seek.

Since you've directed your question to "the Body" in belief I'm a part of that.

I understand it simply as when I have been near-death I have cried out "let me live" followed with any repentance words, asking for forgiveness, understanding GOD's "Judgement " GOD's correction can help us.

Note also this Psalms might have been written by King David, 2Samuel 12:13 , 2Samuel 11, & 12, may be relevant to understanding, what you're looking for
