Thanks Bob,your comments are appreciated & well received. It is good to read that you are so firmly grounded & know that the KJV is based solidly on the trustworthy Textus Receptus. Yet for those who differ, I do not judge, but see an opportunity to discuss by text/original comparisons to bring us to Light & knowing our LORD's Mind. One of my pet discussions with our JW visitors, is Colossians 1:15: "Who (Jesus) is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature". The Gk. here is 'prototokos=first + to give birth to. JWs use (via a bad text. translation), 'protokitises'=first + created, which is not a biblical word. Similar, but a small change can bring on such a big error.

Greetings Chris, I understand what you write. Thing is a new believer listens to those trained by ungodly men who claim the King James is wrong and Greek or Hebrew really says this or that. My Bible college taught us the King James was right and laid a fair foundation. But others showed me the evil men and their dark associations to discredit the King James Bible. I hardly believed it at first. I learned research (before the internet) in secular college and traced down some of the accusations against these evil men and found them to be true. these will con us to believe the virgin birth was not real, John was just exaggerating the miracles of Christ and on and on. These do not build faith.

Bob, you've taken this to the next level. I agree with what you say, but for the 'average' believer, desire or opportunity precludes us from delving too deep into the backgrounds of these authors. Finding one that remains consistently true to the Word should be one for our consistent use. There is also a move by some to move away from post Nicene teachings to the fathers of the ante Nicene era. Of course, new teachings arise, particularly with Eschatology, but as has been claimed them, the Fathers were more faithful to Scriptural meaning and apostolic teaching (on this subject particularly). Did this aspect come up in your Bible College education & how did you receive it

I went to Bible college 6 years with a masters and never really learned Greek or Hebrew. Yet what books do we use to learn these languages The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament (10 Volume Set) by Gerhard Kittel is an absolute standard in seminaries. Kittel was an early member of the Nazi party a supporter of Hitler.

Before we start using these lexicons to understand what words mean, maybe we should find out what these authors believe. Do we want to learn Greek from a Nazi or a believer like Martin Luther flawed as he might be

the brown driver briggs Lexicon has Briggs who taught Messianic prediction has not and cannot be fulfilled aka

Jesus is not the Christ in other words

Troy, you are correct that the AV, as others, are just translations; they will never fully meet the interpretation, cultural, & societal aspects that are involved in original languages. The AV is the best we can have to read God's Word without learning Heb. & Gk. along with understanding the culture behind them. Your proficiency in Hebrew & Greek is to your credit & benefit & for our learning from such scholars. But to hold such disdain against the AV is a little harsh, I feel. Ps 89:47: for the literal translation in English reads: "Remind me how short life is, what (in futility) have You created all the sons of men". The word, , futility (vain) is what you show as nothingness.
  • Bob Hilt - In Reply on Psalms 89:47 - 4 years ago
If the Lord has no preserved word, then he is a failure and satan wins. Those who tell you this word is mistranslated are usually unbelievers and satanists. Thayer's Lexicon (he was a unitarian) who did not believe in the Deity of Christ and his word definitions reflect this. Then others claim the bible has "errors" Just because you do not understand something does not make it an error.
  • Troy on Psalms 89:47 - 4 years ago
I love the Authorized Version, but it's just a translation. I've read it really 40 years. But I also read Hebrew and Greek, so I know the AV is NOT infallible. "Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain" should really be translated as "on nothingness Thou has CREATED all the sons of ADAM". It's pathetic errors like this in the AV--and other English translations--that show how limited it is at times. Shalom. Troy

Verse 13: Fear God, keep his commandments ( Exodus 20) for they will never be altered ( Psalms 89:34), have faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth ( John 3:18)

Keep the commandments of God and Faith of Jesus ( Rev 14:13), for the time is at hand ( Rev 1:3).

"Servant of God" back up to verse 9. Rest used in verse 9 is from the Greek word 'sabbatismos' which means a sabbath rest. To the people of God there still remains a Sabbath. Stoning was under Moses law which Jesus fulfilled Luke 24:44. God commanded his 10 commandments Exo 20), added no more to them (deu 5:22) and will never alter what he himself spoke ( psalms 89:34). See also, Ecclesiastes 12:13

Will, look at 1 John Chapter 3. Sin is a transgression of the Law (Law of God that is: His 10 commandments). If you continue in transgression of the Law then you continue serving sin. If you obey his 10 commandments you serve God. Psalms 89:34, God said he would never alter the very thing that came from his lips...from his very lips came his 10 commandments-See Exodus 20.

David as a boy showed amazing faith to slay evil. God set David apart with wisdom and grace. A human forerunner to divinity (Jesus). What a human David can’t be, Jesus was. God’s wrath towards sin, forsaking Jesus with his rod of discipline spoken about in Ps 89. Millennia passes, the Word now heard in all nations so what is next from God? We know not, so let our faith light shine for others lost.

Steve; Yes! When we read any of the Lord's parables, for example, He was using familiar things to bring out a spiritual and moral point; which were the same points as were in the Law and the Prophets' Writings..."By Inspiration of God!" Of course Jesus quotes Scriptures, as do all His servants speaking in His Name; but that wasn't what I said! I was talking about expounding the sense and meaning.

"Blessed is the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance." Psalms 89:15 THE JOY OF THE LORD IS OUR STRENGTH! Victory! Victory! Victory! Hallelujah! Salvation and honor and glory belongs to the LORD our God! A happy joyful Christian is a Christian walking in obedience and victory and the LORD has answered us by the joy of our heart! A sad long face, moping around in defeat and failure, a critical and mean spirit AGAINST YOUR OWN BROTHERS AND SISTERS! That is NOT the "Joyful Sound:" but the mark of the condemned and disobedient. Be right with God and your Brethren in the Lord, and you will have the Joy of the LORD which will be seen by all, to Jesus' glory!

Glory to God in the highest for he is faithful to his words. Jesus is the perfect obedience to the Father therefore we follow obey and live like Jesus coz in him there is no darkness. Thanks to the blood Lord. Help us to be born again in spirit every moment of our life. Unless a man will not be born of water and in spirit we cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. Thank you Jesus for giving us faith

O LORD IEHOUAH, most High GOD of Israel, who created all things by Jesus Christ: let it be known this day that thou art GOD in Israel, and that I am thy servant, and that I have done all these things at thy word. Blessed be the LORD IEHOUAH for evermore. Amen, and Amen.

In verse 27 since David was not a firstborn son it seems that Jehovah God was referring prophetically to the one foreshadowed by David, Jesus Christ.

Those who know the joyful shouting will be blessed to have God's favor shine upon them.
  • Lucinda Hardman on Psalms 89 - 8 years ago
The joyful sound is not in knowing Jesus is coming He is already here. This is why we cannot enjoy the fullness of God. Our Father's prayer says on earth as it is in heaven. To have Him is heaven and without Him is sorrow. John 10:10 says He came that we might have life and have it more abundantly. When Jesus was on earth those who believed were neither sick nor hungry His presence is Joy NOW

Judgment and Justice and Mercy and Truth are God's joyful sound : and my manner of life in that will I walk , O Lord , This is the light of thy countenance : I will show Judgment and Justice and give Mercy and Truth.

Except the ceremonial laws that were pointing to Jesus ( col 2:14-17), counsels on clean/unclean foods in Lev 11 are still binding. God will not alter anything that proceeds out of His lips ( Psalms 89:34, Heb 13:8).

Ps. 89 clearly shows that humans can have a personal Relationship with God. Human testomials does shed light into our souls to eliminate scepticism which would otherwise darken our lives. It is only then, through walking in His way that we become acquainted with His holiness. When God reveals Himself to man, there is nothing that can turn that man back except madness. Hence, I pray thus, that the Lord will shore up lmy sanity. I need to be sane to understand my life on Earth, and that I am in deed a child of God and all good reports, living my life according to His will.
  • Andrew on Psalms 89:33 - 9 years ago
Adherence in faith to God -- the absolute necessity for security of salvation. No security for apostasy. Saul started good, but lost his salvation through disbelief. Solomon committed grave sins too, but God corrected him with beatings of an iron rod. Christians, be prepared for beatings for disobedience. Apostates, you are lost, no beatings now, but it will come later and eternally with fire.
