You are correct , if you haven't read the Old Testament please do , it's even clearer in there and it's what Jesus believed in and was brought up on .

Hello Edward. The number seven in the Bible often depicts fullness or perfection. Even if you go through the Book of the Revelation, & search out this number, you will find that it seems to represent the completeness of the subject (e.g. Revelation 1:4,12,20; 8:2; & many more, reveal this idea of the Church & the angels (leaders) of the Church in entirety).

Therefore, in Revelation 4:5, we find the mention of "seven lamps (or, torches) of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God". Now we understand from the Word, there is only One God, Who sent out His Word & His Spirit to accomplish His Purposes. The Word became flesh & He (Jesus) gave His Life for the World & is now risen & seated at His Father's right Hand. Before this position beside God, Jesus was the Word from within God. The Spirit of God was also within God but sent out to accomplish all that God planned for mankind. The Work of the Spirit was manifold, which included empowering, convicting, residing, teaching, comforting, help in praying, giving Light, etc. The Spirit that is represented by those lamps before God's Throne, may well be the Holy depiction of God's Spirit that has been at Work to complete the Plans of God & stand before the Throne in testimony of God's Mighty Work.

Fire has been associated with the Holy Spirit: Matthew 3:11,12 (purging); Acts 2:3 (infilling & empowering), & the Spirit stands represented by this Fire of God accomplishing all that God has purposed for the World. Others here may have more to add according to the revelation given to them.

what about the seven spirits of God found in revelations?
  • Carleton - In Reply on Revelation 4 - 3 years ago
Daniel 7:9 says "thrones were cast down" , if we were to consider this meaning, seats were set up. Seats for both Old and New Testament believers whom overcame forces of evil, kingdoms of the world, and understood and were kept spiritually safe in the church in the wilderness. True authority has one Throne and only one seated at the Throne. Lightenings and thunderings are the powers of God. How close can saved men be to this Throne, the Throne of Righteousness? As close as the New Covenant the rainbow. This rainbow is the hope and peace between God and saved men.The sea of glass is ahead of the Throne. The redeemed could stand on this sea of glass because their sins were now transparent. The light of God could pass through them completely because of the one seated at the Throne. The twenty-four elders fall down to worship him that sat on the throne. Living representations (beasts) of all of creation witness with the elders to the Truth upon the Throne as their creator too in their continued and everlasting worship saying, "Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty, which was, and is, and is to come". The connection to the Cherubims of Genesis 3:24 which were living creatures to Ezekiel 10:20 "This is the living creature that I saw under the God of Israel by the river Chebar; and I knew that they were the cherubims." This chapter of Ezekiel helps to understand chapter 1 of Ezekiel where the beasts had the likeness of man, where man was the crown of God's creation in Christ Jesus.

My meditation would lean towards that these Cherubims are the beasts and are at the four corners of the earth as borders to keep men ,because God so loved the world, on the straight and narrow way towards Salvation by the One on the Throne of God, Jesus Christ.

    :)

I can assure you that the four beasts in Daniel 7 are not the same as the cherubs that sit around the throne of God in Chapter 4 of Revelation. They're wildly different beasts. If I inferred incorrectly your meaning and have fuddle your explanation, then I apologize and would request further information for clarification.
  • James - In Reply on Revelation 4 - 3 years ago
I don't know about all of Earl's Comment. I have never heard that argument made, but very well could be some productive insight. I can tell you quiet simply that the four beast's are the four Cherubs that sit around the throne of God.They are mentioned multiple times throughout the Bible, including in exodus and such when Moses makes the mercy seat (a representation of God's throne). Ezekiel 10:14 & 1:10 (read the whole chapters) for Cherub detail. These 4 are not to be confused with the beasts that come later in Revelation. We know there was, at least, a 5th Cherub (Satan) who obviously fell from heaven.

Each Cherub, and face, I have heard taught is a representation of each gospel. Matthew is the Lion, which went forth to the Jews. Focuses on the Lion of the tribe of Judah, gathered from the genealogy there of Jesus. A book that focuses on the Jewish Kingdom. Mark is the ox. A servant animal and focuses on Christ the servant. Luke the man. Focuses on Christ's physical, man qualities. Finally, John is the eagle. Its focus is on the spirit flying forth, the gospel being spread throughout the world. The difference being here that John answers the question of who Jesus is, where the other gospels focus on what Jesus is. Obviously there is much more to these explanations that can't be covered on a message board.

That may be more information than you sought. I can't find my reference notes on Cherubs and hence I can't give you the additional verses referring to their characteristics. Maybe someone else would be so kind as to list them should they know of more.

Brother Sonny, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

Most people are taught by the traditions of man, very few study themselves and let the Spirit reveal the truth to them.

Romans 8:20 For the CREATURE (CREATION) was made SUBJECT TO VANITY (evil), not WILLINGLY, but by REASON of him who hath SUBJECTED the same (creation) in HOPE. (Becoming ONE with their CREATOR).

Ponder on the tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil.

That knowledge exist TOGETHER, you can't have the KNOWLEDGE of good without also having the KNOWLEDGE of evil.

After partaking of this KNOWLEDGE of good and evil, God said, behold they (creation) have become like one of us to KNOW good and evil.

This KNOWLEDGE is necessary to become LIKE GOD.

John 17:21 That they (creation) ALL may BE ONE; as thou Father, art ONE IN ME, and I IN THEE, that thou also may be ONE IN US: that the world MAY BELIEVE that thou has SENT ME.

    Colossians 1:27 ... this mystery....CHRIST IN YOU.....

Revelation 4:5 And out of the throne (you are the throne of CHRIST)( Revelation 20:4) proceeded lighting, and thunder and voices: BURNING ( Isaiah 4:4) before the throne (you are the throne of CHRIST)( Revelation 20:4), which (lighting, thunder, voices) ARE the SEVEN Spirits of God (now in you).

Isaiah 11:2 And the (first is the) SPIRIT of the LORD (Father) shall rest upon him (Christ (in you)), the (second) spirit of WISDOM, and (the third spirit of) UNDERSTANDING, the (forth) spirit of COUNSEL and (the fifth spirit of) MIGHT, the (sixth) spirit of KNOWLEDGE and (the seventh spirit) of the FEAR of the Lord.

When we no longer have to SUFFER IN THE FLESH we will BE ONE WITH THE FATHER AND SON.

Thami, may CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.

    Revelation 4:7

The four beast should be translated as the four LIVING creatures.

These four living creatures are ALL OF CREATION:

    Man, Cattle, Fowl, and Beast.

We can see this same thing explained when God made a covenant with CREATION never to destroy it again with water.

Genesis 9:9 And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you (Noah) (MAN), and with your seed (MAN)

    after you.

Genesis 9:10 And with every living creature (CREATION) that is with you (MAN), of the FOWL, of the CATTLE, and of every BEAST of the earth with you (MAN).........

Revelation 4:7 And the first living creature (CREATION) was a lion (BEAST), and the second living creature (CREATION) was a calf (CATTLE), and the third living creature (CREATION) had a face as a man (MAN), and the fourth living creature (CREATION) was a flying eagle (FOWL).

    This same thing is in:

Ezekiel 1:10 As for the likeness of their faces, they (CREATION) four had the face of a MAN, and the face of a lion (BEAST), on the right side: and they (CREATION) four had the face of an ox (CATTLE) on the left side, they (CREATION) four had the face of an eagle (FOWL).

THE SEALED BOOK OR THE SECRET GOD'S BOOK

The sealed book was with God the Father, written within and without and there was written therein lamentations, and mourning, and woes as was seen by the prophet Ezekiel. Check it in Ezekiel 2:v.10

What the Most High GOD had planned to happen in the Lord's Day was still hidden, but it was written in a sealed or secret book whose content did reveal all things to happen in this last Day, i.e in this last millennium that is the millennium of Christ, even the end of the time. So, the content of the book would happen in the seventh and last Day exclusively. By the way, the sealed book would be the last of the Bible, the book of Apocalypse.

THE GREAT HEAVENLY CEREMONY BEGINS - AND GOD DELIVERS THE SEALED BOOK TO JESUS - JESUS WAS SEATED ON HIS THRONE

The heavenly environment in the Great Heavenly Ceremony only is possible to describe by the own Word of God, as is written i Revelation 4:v.3 to 11:

    COME UP HITHER;

3 (See) ...there was a rainbow round about the Throne, in sight like unto an emerald. Rainbow is a refraction of the Light in the waters present in the atmosphere. The material things are figures of material things. The parables of our LORD Jesus is a good example.

There was a rainbow round abour the Trone of GOD. Why? Well, it is because GOD is Light, and waters are peoples, and nations, and multitudes of all tongues. The Light of GOD reflects upon His people and appears in the heavenly place in Christ where we are in the current time as is written in Ephesus 1:v.3, and Phimlippians 3:v.20-21, among others references. Check it out.

v.4 - And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, clothed in white raiment; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

5 And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne, which are the seven Spirits of God.

    Revelation 5:v.8-10KJV

8 And when he -the Lamb- had taken the book, the four beasts -living beings- and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.

    9 And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation;

10 And hast made us unto our God kings and priests:and we shall reign on the earth.- GOD's KINGDOM - Luke 20:35-36 and Revelation 11:v.15 to 18

    24 ELDERS

Here goes the 24 elders showed in Revelation 4:v.4

They are the 24 messengers of the Word (the Word is God), beginning by Moses:

    1 - Moses

    2 - Joshua

    3 - Samuel

    4 - Ezra

    5 - Nehemiah

    6 - Job

    7 - David

    8 - Solomon

    9 - Isaiah

    10 - Jeremiah

    11 - Ezekiel

    12 - Daniel

    13 - Hosea

    14 - Joel

    15 - Amos

    16 - Obadiah

    17 - Jonah

    18 - Micah

    19 - Nahum

    20 - Habakkuk

    21 - Zephaniah

    22 - Haggai

    23 - Zechariah

    24 - Malachi

And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning

before the throne, which are the SEVEN Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.

(What are the seven Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.?

    Goodmorning Lee.

    Here's my direct quote.

"Ch 4:1 you see he's called up to heaven."

    Here's the verse.

Revelation 4:1 (KJV) After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, ( COME UP HITHER, ) and I will shew thee things which must be HEREAFTER.

Hereafter means the things he mentioned in ch 2 and 3.

COME. UP. HERE. This is not Heaven in you, it's a Location.

John is taken to the future tense and there is the 24 elders and the Lamp stand that was the Church in Ch 1.

Revelation 5:10 . And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

    They sung a song-

    They have been redeemed,

    They're in white raiment,

    They shall reign on earth,

    And John saw them.

This is just answering the 24 elders question.

    God bless you Lee.
  • S Spencer - In Reply on Revelation 1 - 3 years ago
    Hi Lee..

These 24 elders represent the church,

Where they're "CLOTHED IN WHITE RAIMENT" IN CH 4, AND DESCRIBED AS THE REDEEMED BY THE BLOOD OF THE LAMB IN CH 5.

In Revelation Ch 2 and 3 you see John's writing to the 7 Churches, Ch 4:1 you see he's called up to heaven.

"The rapture has been taken place by this point"

Revelation 4:4. And round about the throne were four and twenty seats: and upon the seats I saw four and twenty elders sitting, "CLOTHED IN WHITE RAIMENT"; and they had on their heads crowns of gold.

    Revelation 5:9-10. And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, AND HAST REDEEMED US TO GOD BY THY BLOOD OUT OF EVERY kindred, and tongue, and people, and NATION"!!!;

And hast made us unto our God kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.

Isn't it amazing you see them in Heaven when some say we don't go to Heaven, we inherit the Earth?

    Genesis 9:9-12

The covenant was with man, fowl, cattle and beast.

    Patricia,

In Revelation 4:6, it says that in the midst of the throne, and round about the throne, were four beasts, (literally, living creatures). These four living creatures were full of eyes behind and in front. These are the same creatures in Ezekiel Chapters 1 and 10. And in those chapters, they are called cherubim. These four living creatures are special angelic beings that God has created.

    Revelation 15

    Revelation 16

This is the work of CHRIST DEATH on the cross and the work of HIS RESURRECTION and the battle ( Revelation 16:14) we are caused to fight to come to this TRUTH IN CHRIST. Being fulfilled for the last 2000 years as the Fathers draws us to CHRIST and CHRIST gives us HIS UNDERSTANDING to overcome. ASK HIM he will cause you to understand; but it HIS time frame. We have been in the day of the Lord now for 2000 years. He is harvesting HIS FRUITS as they become first ripe (firstfruits) ( Revelation 14:14-20) ( Matthew 20:1-16)

When the sixth seal was opened ( Revelation 6:12) Christ was crucified; prophecy of ( Joel 2:31). The old testament saints and the children of the resurrection were raised with him ( Isaiah 26:19),( Revelation 20:5-6) and ( Matthew 27:52-53). The old testament saints were sealed with the Holy Spirit and the body of Christ ( 1 Timothy 6:16)( Revelation 7:3-8). There was silence in heaven for one half hour ( Revelation 8:1) between the sixth and seventh seal. This is the 45 days between Christ resurrection and pentecost ( Daniel 12:11-12) 1335 days minus 1290 days. No one could enter into the temple (into Christ) until the seven plagues were pour out on Christ (he took God's wrath for us). now we can be ONE IN CHRIST ( Revelation 15:6-8). The four living creatures before the throne ( Revelation 4:6-8) is all creation. God made a covenant with Noah that they would never be destroyed again ( Genesis 9:9-12) man, cattle, beast and fowl. ( Ezekiel 1:10) ( Revelation 4:7). ALL CREATION will worship God. The lake of fire is how Christ cleanses and purifies us.

Isaiah 11:1-5 Is a prophecy about Christ. Verse 2 is the prophecy of the seven spirits being poured out on Christ. This happened at Christ baptism of John. This is also the prophecy spoken of in

Revelation 4:5 .....which are the seven Spirits of God.

    Isaiah 11:2 And the

    (1) spirit of the Lord (Father)

    (2) the spirit of wisdom

    (3) the spirit of understanding

    (4) the spirit of counsel

    Page 2.

Revelation 4:2: yes, that does show John viewing One sitting on the Throne, but when you read further in Revelation 5:6-9, we also see Jesus (God's Word sent to be made human, but now ascended to sit at God's right Hand). And we know that Jesus & God are there in Heaven by this verse & also Romans 8:34. So God's Word was made flesh & called "Jesus" but raised as 'God Who is also Man' in that Body fitted for Heaven, even as we shall be in that day ( 1 John 3:2). And yes, it was God's Plan from the beginning to have His children enjoy intimate fellowship with Him. And God is His Fullness (i.e. the Father, His Son & His Spirit Who are God in Unity) do enjoy such fellowship with His children. Each cannot feel differently about us (i.e. God cannot have fellowship with us, but the Son says "But I don't like that person, let's have a chat about this Father"). God is One & that Oneness is seen in His expressions of His Son & His Spirit & in their Unity & complete agreement.

Jesus as a 'created Being': Jesus' Sacrifice as a Man does indeed have spiritual consequences but cannot be seen as a spiritual Sacrifice. He was fully human & fully God, yet laying aside some of those Divine qualities for the purposes of the Incarnation & Sacrifice ( Philippians 2:5-11). To enable us to be convicted, to draw us to repentance, to give light & understanding, to renew us & fill us, to sanctify us & to raise us up to the heavenlies, is the work of God's Spirit. And Who is this Spirit? The self same Spirit that is part of the Father & the Son.

1 John 3:9: that's a separate subject that can be discussed if you desire, as its meaning needs analysis. Though the concept of sinless perfection is concerning. Blessings.

First of all nobody is perfect.( Romans 3:23-25) Second of all i will pray for you to the Father.( 1 Timothy 2:1-4) David, Solomon, Moses, Aaron, and others in the Bible were not perfect, sinned against God and were corrected for it.( Hebrews 12:6-11) The key thing we all need to do daily is repent of our sins because we are not perfect but Jesus Christ our Lord is and he loves us wanting the best for us.( 1 John 1:9)( 2 Peter 3:9) Our choices decide how close or distant we are from the Father.( James 4:7-10) The main thing we need to remember is that God loves use and created us for his pleasure.( Revelation 4:11) The Lord never falls short but we do. This is why he wants us to humble ourselves and ask him for forgiveness in sincerity.( Proverbs 28:13) If we are not pleasing to him he will correct us to keep us from being deceived and falling away from him. The Lord instructed use through his word and sacrificed himself to draw us closer to him.( John 1:1-5)( John 3:16) Pray believing in the Lord with a humble heart and talk to him, he loves you because your his child( Mark 11:24).

The Septuagint was the (bible) holy words/teachings at the time of Jesus. The Jews gave Aramaic translations (Targums- to translate across-) to people. When Jesus followers were teaching about Christ from the Septuagint- the Jews rewrote the books in Hebrew (the old ones had been burned or destroyed; that is why the Dead Sea Scrolls were such an important find! Isaiah matched (!) their re translation from the Greek -= used at the time of the Prophets and forward to Jesus's day.) The Latin came later, and Jerome confessed (somewhere) that when he didn't understand the old Latin, he put in his meaning. Hope this helps. B.Boyd
