How many books are in the bible ?
  • Adam - In Reply on Matthew 12:32 - 3 years ago
Just so you know, many Bible reading Christians don't believe that. Do you truly believe that saying a dirty word is just as bad as committing mass murder? Or do you believe that someone committing violent rape is no different than telling a white lie?

This needs to be called out, because sometimes even Christians use mental gymnastics to pretend that their sins are 'ok'. No, it's not ok. Jesus said to not sin. He said cut off your own hand if you have to, to stop sinning. Do absolutely anything possible to stop it and avoid going to hell. If you ignore Him and sin, that's like you slapping Jesus in the face. If you keep doing it, it's possible you're not even a Christian. A Christian is a Christ follower which is an action. People who enjoy committing sin and following the world will probably go to hell, whether they call themselves a Christian or not. That is the reality that fewer people these days are grasping the seriousness of. Matthew 7:20-23.

If sin didn't matter, why would there even be a judgment day and why would sins even be reviewed in front of God? Sin absolutely matters and every single thing you do to violate God's commands will be judged. Romans 14:12

I think the false assumption comes from misinterpreting a verse. Sin is sin, but it does not mean all sin is of the same severity. That is a false assumption. For instance blasphemy is different than blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. Jesus says flat out that you will not be forgiven for the latter. There are more Bible references to prove that sins have different severity. Matthew 12:36-37

    Brother Bruce,

AS BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN - you and I go through these process.

    First Step = Humbled self, confess & turn away from sin, accept Jesus as God and Savior;

    Second Step = Get baptized - water baptism similar to what Jesus went through by John the Baptist = you died to sins, is born again in Jesus' name;

    Third Step = our Lord Jesus baptized you with the Holy Spirit - Holy Spirit indwells or lives in your heart;

Fourth Step = Holy Spirit guides, protects you from evil. God allows trials, all sorts of problems to test your faith in God. Why would God do this? To purify you - purge or cleanse your old sinful prideful selfish desires, self-will, so that God's Holy Spirit can merge with your spirit - to mold you in the image and likeness of our Lord Jesus.

NOTE: Steps 1, 3 & 4 are ongoing process that every Christians must go through - if and when you repeatedly sin i.e. lie even white lies, and don't confess to God and repent, you grieve the Holy Spirit - some signs to remember - feeling guilty that you sin, feel like God is far not in you - the is the Holy Spirit guiding you, so you must listen and do what the Holy Spirit is teaching you. Please do not ignore this warnings from the Holy Spirit, if you ignore these, you become vulnerable target for Satan to steal you from God.

    Romans 10:9-10 should help.

You are saved by grace through faith in Christ through the gospel and not of your own works, otherwise Christ would be dead in vain. Check out galatians as well.

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.

    Luke 12:8

Also I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God:

I think you may be seeking clarification of Romans 14:5,6 to a similar passage in Galatians 4:9,10.

As both of Paul's letters are to believers, I read the Galatians portion as applying to some who wanted to observe those aspects of the Jewish religious requirements as necessary, as opposed to the freedom believers now have in Christ, in Romans 14.

In Galatians, Paul speaks of the Jewish customs & observances (of special days & times) that were required for the performance of their religion. This went part & parcel with a strict & correct observance, & any departure from it, brought displeasure & punishment.

But when one is "in Christ", we have no such constraints placed upon us, as we look into the "perfect law of liberty" because Christ, in His Sacrifice, not only brought us a glorious salvation from sin's penalty, but also released us from the bondage to anything else (whether a Law, custom, or tradition), so that we may enjoy the liberty that comes with faith in Christ & being led of His Spirit in our lives. So in Romans 4:5,6, Paul is reminding the believers there that they are free to observe any day they wished or eat anything they desired, for they were no longer under legal constraint, but under the dictates of the conscience, as those now belonging to Jesus. And of course, the reason for Paul bringing up this matter, was the concern about a judgemental attitude, which would be prevalent especially by those coming out of Judaism & who believed that the 'old' observances were still necessary to live as a Christian. And we know that the Apostle Peter too failed momentarily in this matter of behaviour in front of Jews ( Galatians 2:11-16).

We are never to judge another, except to proclaim the Word accurately to one who is failing or departing from the teachings from the Word. Therefore, whether in our mind or action against them, we are to desist, but by loving instruction guide or warn them, leaving the matter of the soul's condition only to the Lord.

    Hi Rob,

I'm wondering what your motive is for coming to a Bible website and accusing Christians who believe the trinity of being under a "curse"- something that most Christians believe in. Is that how you lovingly are looking to exchange information about the Bible to edify each other or are just looking to start a quarrel and do the opposite? Romans 14:19, Ephesians 4:32, Ephesians 4:29.

The reason people believe that God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit (Ghost) are one is that it literally says that in the Bible in 1 John 5:7 and elsewhere: Link

Do you think this is a salvation issue where someone may go to hell for believing the Bible verses such as 1 John 5:7 or why else are you so strong to condemn Bible believing Christians? What if someone accused you of what you're accusing others- that you yourself are spreading a "heinous doctrine" and are under a "curse," how would that make you feel and would it be true?

The following are books/chapters were the 10 commandments are located:

    Exodus 20

    Deuteronomy 5

The Laws are found in the book of Leviticus.

The blood sacrifice ordinances were fulfilled in Jesus Christ when he sacrificed himself for one and all time to give us eternal life if we believe on him, repent of our sins and serve him obediently.

Jesus Christ will judge the world according to the statutes of the law:

( Matthew 5:17-19) words from Jesus:

17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

18 For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.

19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach [them], the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

2 Corinthians 5:10 - For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things [done] in [his] body, according to that he hath done, whether [it be] good or bad.

Romans 14:12 - So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.

    1 John Chapter 2

1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

2 And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for [the sins of] the whole world.

3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

And further, by these, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the Flesh.

    1 Thessalonians 4:11

    And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;

    1 Corinthians 11:19

For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you.

((My comment: that You will shine as gold))

    Romans 14:18

For he that in these things serveth Christ, is acceptable to God, and approved of men.

    2 Corinthians 13:7

Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest:

Isaiah 45:23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Isaiah 60:14 The sons also of them that afflicted thee shall come bending unto the; and all they that despised thee shall bow themselves down at the soles of thy feet, and shall call thee, The city of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

Salvation is not given until people are judged and that doesn't happen until after Jesus comes. People assume they're saved as if they now can enjoy sin as much as they want with no consequence despite verses like Romans 14:12. Secondly, some people falsely assume they no longer have freewill to sin after becoming a Christian, despite all the other verses saying you can sin. Paul was a Christian and deeply struggled with his 'flesh' tempting him to sin and wrote about that in depth. There is no evidence that says your freewill to sin is stripped away. Even angels in heaven could sin, such as satan, so of course a Christian still has the ability to sin, but is supposed to actually try hard to have self control and NOT SIN. People try hard to blame others and to avoid accountability for their own actions, but no, no one forces them to sin, but themselves and their own bad choices. Those who believe Christians cannot sin are basically calling Jesus a liar. Jesus spent so much time warning his followers (Christians) to avoid sin, and shared many parables, and kept challenging them. John 14:15, Hebrews 10:26, Matthew 12:31-32. The once saved- always saved belief is a very predictable argument, but is debunked by the Bible itself if someone were to read it carefully and pray to God and ask for the heart to know the truth. Satan loves to deceive Christians into believing they have a get out of jail free card that entitles them to live in the world and enjoy unlimited sin with no consequence and of course that has the devil's signature all over it.

    Dear Dan,

I'm replying to your comment on the sabbath. While I agree that it would seem strange to follow only 9 of the 10 commandments, Jesus did treat the commandment about the sabbath differently than the others and there is scripture evidence that suggests the sabbath is not equal to the other commandments.

The reason is Jesus was accused of breaking the sabbath himself! If he were alive today and you saw Jesus heal someone or do some 'work', would you accuse and judge Him of it? That's what the Pharisees did and Jesus rebuked them. So, Jesus made a clear point that it's ok to do good work on the sabbath. Mark 2:27. There are also interesting verses like Colossians 2:16-17 and Romans 14:5. This shows the original reason Israelites needed to observe the Sabbath: Deuteronomy 5:15.

So, did Jesus fulfill the sabbath or did he not?

I've also thought of this before and was lead to these other things in the Bible:

    Romans 14:1-6

1 Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations.

2 For one believeth that he may eat all things: another, who is weak, eateth herbs.

3 Let not him that eateth despise him that eateth not; and let not him which eateth not judge him that eateth: for God hath received him.

4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

5 One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

6 He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.

    Also verse 14:

14 I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

    Mark 7:18-20

    18 And he(Jesus) saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him;

19 Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats?

20 And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man.

Along with the post, verse, you wrote which was God speaking to Noah. It is just my belief that the whole thing about "unclean" animals was just something made up by the pharisees. Of coarse I cannot proove this but I don't think any food or meat is really unclean. As we have these other verses backing this up. Today it seems we have all this GMO stuff which I don't like. I try to stay away from it but I don't feel guilty if I eat something with it. Hope this helps. God Bless.

If they had confessed their belief in Jesus to you or others; that's what matters. Read these scriptures and be at peace in your heart about it. We don't hear what people pray in the middle of the night, alone in their bed. So, Believe the best.

    Hello Mr Sebren

The Lord is also the God of the dead: Revelation 20, Philippians 2: 10 & 11, and Romans 14:9 > "For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living". "Might be" is now is! Now that's cleared, I offer sympathy if someone you cared about recently passed away

The following is my personal experience and my thoughts about what happened. Furthermore, I admit that I didn't want to answer your question because I knew it would draw out the haters. But I couldn't forget your question and now know that it's right to answer from a unique experience

I hadn't seen a dear aunty of mine for a long time due to being abroad. She was an older sister of my mother and was actually more of a good mother to me. She was suffering for a long time, but no closely related relatives told me when there was time because they're narcissistic. I found out very late about it when I phoned relatives overseas, but she was asleep. It was just before she passed away. So it was the most distressing grief I've ever been overwhelmed by

So, I cried to the Father God and told him how I missed her so much and never got the chance to say goodbye. Then when I was out walking on a sunny day, some time within 15 days of her passing, I suddenly sensed the presence of an angel who told me in the spirit that someone wants to speak to me! I'm glad I was given that bit of preparation, or else I would've closed up out of fear. A minute later, her spirit &soul appeared, asking me questions that she would've asked, but never got the chance before. I answered her questions while they walked with me. This lasted about 10 mins. Then 2 days later, they came back for a final brief visit, in my home, so she could see my lifestyle & for me to explain my circumstances to her

So it's possible but rare& only if God allows it for a brief time window (up to 15 days, maybe 30, of the death of a saved soul, escorted by an angel). I didn't ask for that, but u may

    Romans 14:14

I know, and am persuaded by the Lord Jesus, that there is nothing unclean of itself: but to him that esteemeth any thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

    Romans 14:15

But if thy brother be grieved with thy meat, now walkest thou not charitably. Destroy not him with thy meat, for whom Christ died.

    John 6:27

Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

Comment: basically nothing is forbidden if you PRAY over your food before eating it.

I pray this often if I get take out food:

"Lord thank you for your provision and the blessing of food. I ask You to bless and sanctify it and make it healthy for me to eat. I receive this meal in the Name of Jesus. Amen!"

I picked this variety of verses to show that meat eaters and vegetarians can all eat what they want. With joy and appetite.

Also, There is spiritual meat that the Christian can ask the Lord to give to him. It has to do with deeper truth. Trust the Holy Spirit (your teacher who oversees your growth) to give you the meat.

In this day and age, I always ask the Lord to bless and sanctify the food. We don't know where it comes from, do we?

    Bob Hilt,

Do you believe that God will break all of the promises He has made to Israel, the "apple of His eye?" ( Zechariah 2:8).

Are you convinced that He will just forget His chosen people ( Deuteronomy 7:6, Isaiah 44:1, etc., etc., etc.)

God is the Judge ( Psalms 54:1).

You search the Scriptures to try to condemn God's chosen people and call Jews cursed.

The Olive tree that your are trying to be grafted into as the wild branch are these same cursed Jews? Look at Romans 11:16-22.

And what are you going to do with the words of Luke in Acts 28:26-29?

Are we not going to believe another promise of God just so you can condemn our brothers?

26 Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive:

27 For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

28 Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.

29 And when he had said these words, the Jews departed, and had great reasoning among themselves.

    Will the Jews that love God not see and understand when the Messiah returns;

and "every knee" will bow? ( Romans 14:11, Philippians 2:11)

Romans 14:11-12. Everyone is going to give an account for every idle word that has come out of the mouth. You are opposing yourself! Opposing Gods written plan for Gentiles and Jews. No born again person can call Jesus accursed; or His Father.

God is dealing with Israel. He doesn't need Gentile help. We should be grateful, because us Gentiles are being blessed huge because God has Israel off in a corner wondering why so many Gentiles are in love with Jesus, and follow him around like a flock of sheep.

BUT Soon, God is going to bring them in to Himself again. Then He will have ONE whole flock. That's His recorded purpose.

I do not see scripture that supports daily RAILING against the blind and deafened Jews of today Israel. Let God do as he said.

Mishael to you: in my 68 yrs on earth; a misunderstanding is an opportunity to apologize; give anD receive comfort. Smile.

The heart of the Lord is Mercy.

Grace is unmerited favor. We don't deserve it, but God gives it to us anyway.

My prayer: it takes just the right conditions for the sky to make triple rainbows.

The best prayers are said on your knees.

Mary, this is an age old question from people who want to prove that either God doesn't exist or that He is not the loving God Whom we say He is. There is no easy, clear answer that can be given which will satisfy those enquirers. We know that God is a God of Love - that is Who He is & the reason why we are here as are all of His creation. We also know that He never wanted anyone to die, but man chose to disobey Him & to be arrogant to Him, so the penalty of our sin is death & eternal separation from Him was the result. Then the questions: if we adults have to die, then why should the innocent children also die? Then if God stopped them from dying now, does that mean that He will let them die later or maybe not die at all? But we all have to die as a result of who we are & sadly, little children are also affected by this. Though Jesus did speak of those who wanted to harm the children as those deserving of death for their wickedness ( Mt 18:6).

These are strange questions I've given but I'm trying to show that unfortunately, both adult & child have to suffer pain, hardship & death, simply because we are a fallen creation (sinners) living in a world once beautiful, but now reeling in the effects of that corruption. And when God looks at us in our troubles, He also sees us through His Son Who came to give His Life for us so that even if we have to die physically, we won't have to die spiritually in Hell. And this is the promise to all people who come to God by faith in Jesus' death at Calvary. And those little ones who die before their innocence is lost, will still go to Heaven as they have not sinned wilfully as a result of their sin nature. These are comforting to us Christians, but the unsaved will only want to see God as a cruel unloving Person. They need to know that we all die because of our sinful nature & disobedience to God - BUT God has given us an opportunity to enjoy eternal life in Heaven if we come back to Him in His way ( Jn 14:6).
