I would just like to touch on the sin issue. Something to consider when asking about what is sin and what is not is that in Romans 14:23, it says for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. That is a powerful statement. Anything that is not of faith is sin. And since the literal definition of the word faith means persuasion, anything that is not prompted by God's Spirit is sin. It is God's Spirit in us that persuades us to do the things that are pleasing to Him. That's what it is saying. That's what faith is.
Faith is the persuasion and leading of God's Spirit. And anything that is not of faith is sin. So there's your definition. So whatever it is, ask yourself if God's Spirit is persuading you to do that. If it's not His Spirit persuading you, then it is sin. That's just something we have to ask ourselves, no matter what it is we are partaking of. It's a personal relationship between you and Jesus Christ. What is He persuading you to do? Do that. Anything else is sin!
Levi, the Book of Romans, was written by Paul to the Christians in Rome & not to the Jews. These matters were raised by the apostle because of how these believers were treating others. So by judging others in what they ate, how they regarded certain days, treatment of slaves, etc. was wrong, said Paul, & so he gave them this warning. So, this chapter isn't about fasting but about judging others in the Church.
"Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way." Rom 14:13.
Chapter 14 start of with, Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. this chapter does not say anything about a Sabbath day, or worship day, because the Sabbath was not in doubt, they was jews. Jews and and gentiles kept the Sabbath. This chapter is talking about fasting.
About Romans 14:11, do you think some of the most vile sinners that have ever lived, do you think if they know they're about to be tossed into a literal fire forever, do you think they will confess and bow before being thrown in for "eternity"?
If they had free will, they could tell God, "I hate you, I'm not going to bow, your going damn me to torture forever anyway"
Also, if a sinner who did not follow Christ in this life, if he begs for forgiveness and mercy, do you think God has a limitation on his mercy? The picture God you paint is not All Love, and All Merciful, and All Powerful.
Christs death, was more effective than Adam's sin.
Christ is the redeemer of ALL Men, not just believers.
I hope none of this comes off as condescending, that is not my intention.
I only wish to glorify God in his unlimited Love, Mercy and Power
"I will put my Law in their minds, and write it on their hearts;...and they shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them." Jeremiah 24:7
That doesn't sound like an optional statement. God says he will do it, it will happen. In this age or ages to come.
All men who have lived will go through God's fire in the ages to come to burn away their flesh (sin, old man, old nature) the ones who succeed in this age, are the overcomers, the first born, who make it to the first resurrection, and reign with Christ for 1000 years on the Earth.
That is part of our inheritance.
The fire is not literal, it is the fire of God. For example when we deny our fleshly desires, and hear his voice, and heed it, it hurts. To not get your way, and die to your sinful desires and to take up that cross daily, and standing true to him among pagans and withstanding being mocked for walking with him, that is going through the fire.
How can mainstream Christians reconcile Romans 14:11
for it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."
Do Christians really think sinners will be forced to confess and bow? And when they do God will still throw them in a literal fire to burn forever? How ridiculous is that?
I'm thankful we have a Creator that is ALL Loving, ALL Merciful, and All Powerful.
With those traits combined, I really don't think he will let a soul he has created, to be wasted.
1 Corinthians 15:22
For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ all will be made alive.
In 2 Corinthians 5:10, it says For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; That is what is called the Bema seat. This is not the Great White Throne Judgment. We are told in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3, as well as Romans 14:10 "Why do you judge your brother, or why do you set at nought your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat, the Bema seat of Christ."
The Bema seat was the platform that some of the Roman officials would sit on as they were meting out judgment. But it's more known for the stand in which you come to at the Olympic games after you run your race to get your prize.
We see in the Olympics, the first, second, and third-place athletes, they get up on this stand and they give them a medal. And they stand up there and play the anthem of the person that came in first place.
That is the Bema seat. It's not the judgment of heaven and hell. We are already assured of heaven in Christ. But we will be judged and that judgment is described for us in 1 Corinthians Chapter 3.
There will be a type of fire that we will pass through and that which is not of Christ will burn, and whatever is left is the reward. Only the things of Christ will last!
So he says I do things here that will be well-pleasing to the Lord because someday I'm going to stand before Him just like we (All true believers) will. And as he says in 1 Corinthians Chapter 9, he runs the race to win the prize. He says run to receive the prize because one day you're going to stand before Christ.
Angeline, With respect to keeping the Sabbath, what were the requirements? What is your take on statements that seem to say it doesn't matter if you keep the Sabbath?
Mark 2:27
Then Jesus declared, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Therefore, the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath."
Mark 7:19
because it does not enter his heart, but it goes into the stomach and then is eliminated." (Thus all foods are clean.)
Romans 14:3
For one person has faith to eat all things, while another, who is weak, eats only vegetables. The one who eats everything must not belittle the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted him.
Romans 14:5
One man regards a certain day above the others, while someone else considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes a special day does so to the Lord; he who eats does so to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God.
Romans 14:17
For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
Galatians 4:10
But now that you know God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you are turning back to those weak and worthless principles? Do you wish to be enslaved by them all over again? You are observing special days and months and seasons and years!
Colossians 2:20
If you have died with Christ to the spiritual forces of the world, why, as though you still belonged to the world, do you submit to its regulations: These will all perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings.
1 Timothy 4:3
They will prohibit marriage and require abstinence from certain foods that God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.
Hebrews 9:10
They consist only in food and drink and special washings--external regulations imposed until the time of reform.
The reason why it can't be both is because God does not recognize or reward us for anything we do apart from His Spirit persuading us to do. In other words, we have to differentiate between spirit and flesh. Are we doing something because He's persuading us to do it, or are we doing it out of our own human effort and ambition? Romans 14:23 says "for whatsoever is not of faith is sin. If we understand that biblical faith is produced by God's Spirit, not us, and that faith literally means persuasion, then we can ask ourselves, am I doing this because God's Spirit in me is persuading me to do it (Faith), or am I doing it out of my own human ambition? One of these, God is not going to recognize!
I agree with you becuz I feel the same way it's all about our faith lyke ok 4 example if you and I went to lunch out of respect to you becuz in Yeshua we are brother and sister in the faith me personally I would want to ask you beforehand if my ordering of either meat or fish would be a problem and if you said in trueth that it did or somethin lyke that of course i would ( want ) to order somethin else from the menu becuz yes i really do agree with you bro. much love. to all.
Which scientists say pork is unhealthy? There isn't any scientific consensus on this as anyone can search 'pork health benefits' and find plenty of information. Romans 14:1-23
Christ fulfilled all the old prophecies in the old testament as we have read the Bible from the very beginning. He taught us the way and when his time had come, he gave us the apostles and as we know the only one to die natural was John, they all did suffer greatly through imprisonment martyredism but they were glad to do so, even Paul spoke of this ,they knew the outcome was being with the Lord, it was a pervillage a life worth living and dying in Christ as we all should be , die to self and do as he has shown us, suffering strengthens us all for the peace to come to be in the presents of the greatest love we have ever known, struggles are only for a moment as fleshly life is to
Gentiles are not held to the same festivals , we are taught to set aside a day for the Lord as it is written, a day to reflected on his Glory, and fasting but he was speaking to gentiles of how we have our way of festivals you have passover, we celebrate Easter, God saved his people from bondage in Egypt, Christ fulfilled the bondage of sin on a cross that we in him are one, I thank God for the Jews for we'd all be lost, we wouldn't have had the word who came in the flesh and his spirit poured out on the third day of his conquering death to the apostles to share the good news Amen! Praise the Lord

God is a fair judge. People who die without being exposed to the truth will be judged fairly. Young children who die will be judged fairly ( Matthew 18:3). People who were murderers committing massive evil acts for 99% of their life then accept Christ right before death will be judged fairly ( Romans 14:12). There is no reason to believe God will be unfair in judging anyone under every situation ( Psalms 7:11).
Darren - I respect your belief which is the message of this chapter. The same message is for you to respect my belief which differs from yours. Whatever either of us eats is of little matter compared to our faith and our works which shows our faith.
Romans 14:21-24. It's my opinion that if something feels wrong to you then avoid that while being sensitive to others. I personally do not interpret a cross as a graven image. Is anything physical relating to God an idol or graven image then? Like a Bible? What if the Bible has a cross on it, is it now bad? What if you have a Bible verse framed and hung on your wall- bad too? How far does one take it? So any Christian objects are bad, and non-Christian objects good then you basically de-Christianize everything in your life and that seems like something satan would want.
Hi Danielle, it's my personal belief that most of the laws from the old testament were fulfilled when Jesus died on the cross. I believe this instruction to not drink blood is for health reasons and I personally still abide by it. Romans 14:13-23 relates to this. Is this your real question, because I wonder how John 15:13 is related to Leviticus 17:14.
Interpertation is a lie ...there is only 1 TRUTH this chapter and vs means a Your week in faith cuz u dont believe the herb is all u need to survive ..not living by the word proves your faith and love to Hallel ..defiling your bodies sicking yourselves...but the vs also proves a sick man can ONLY eat HERBS to heal himself ..in GENISIS he gave us herbs bearing seed ordained every animal to eat it
a servant to the Lord is all that matters keep your hearts pure and don't bicker over how anyone who is in Christ serves our Father, understand each other and respect each other, our goal is the same to enter into the gate and Bow before the King
Paul was speaking of the Jews and the gentiles in their customs of beliefs, we should not condemn how anyones worship to the Lord, keep festivals, or what anyone eats, or drinks, if we keep the sabbath or go and work with our hands, Christ came and fulfilled the old laws, but it is wise not to judge another on how they choose to serve the Lord, we are all servants to the Lord our God Amen God bless
Jews and Gentiles were recipients of his letter: Paul emphasizes that man s justification before God depends on the mercy if Christ: great emphasis on the sinfulness of man and his need which is onThe application of righteousness: Paul gives his reason for the Epistle and reviews some of their characteristics. Various personal greetings are extended in conclusion of this writing:
I LOVE THE WORD! IT'S FLESH, IT'S LIFE, IT'S RICH, IT'S NEW, EVERY TIME U READ IT KEEPS ME TRUE WHOLE, I LOVE JESUS BECAUSE HE FIRST LOVE ME, MY LORD SAVIOUR JESUS CHRIST NAME AMEN AMEN!
