That's a good question Dgjot, as sometimes we can misapply Scriptures when they speak to people in various cultures, times & situations. To answer your question, I believe that Jeremiah 29:11 does apply to the one in Christ as well.
My reasoning on this is: whenever God the Father or His Son speak to 'people' through His Word, I always ask, 'who are They speaking to, what is the matter about, and what is the relevance to any other people or ourselves?'
Briefly, when matters relate specifically to Israel (e.g. the Law, the Sacrifices, to go & conquer lands or enemies, prophecies concerning them/judgements/punishments, etc.), then I read those verses as given to them, but for my knowledge & learning about the Person of the Godhead. But if verses are directed to Israel (such as the one you quoted), do we see the Character of God & His expressions of love, concern, guidance, & help to both Israel (the elect of God) & in the believer in Christ (having the faith needed to be God's elect: Titus 1:1)?
Israel, having received that special love of God & His intervention in their lives in so many ways, ought to have been shining beacons to the uncivilized idolatrous world, but they chose to spurn God's Love & to reject His Christ, thereby losing their position before God. Why? Because the righteousness in the Law was not sought by faith ( Romans 9:30-32). Had they believed God & sought Him out in real love & faith, the Truth of Jeremiah 29:11-14 would have been their ongoing experience. But as Israel was cut out of the olive tree ( Romans 11), that we who have come to God IN FAITH might be engrafted into it, the promise in Jeremiah & all the promises in the Bible as pertaining to God's people (Jew & Gentile) in whom He delights, must also be applicable to us.
So, you can take much comfort in that verse & all verses that give you God's Promises: His Seal is within you, His Love is upon you & His Arms surround you and nothing can separate you from that love.
Enoch and Elijah are not the only two people in history that did not die but were translated into the presence of God. Anyone from the time of pentecost until the present that have been born again of the word of God, through the works of the cross, have not seen death. The two witnesses to this truth is Mosses and the prophets.
John 11:26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me (truth and life) SHALL NEVER DIE .....
Titus 1:2 In hope of ETERNAL LIFE, which God , that cannot lie, promised (witnessed by Mosses and the prophets) before the world began;
I thought I saw a post of yours to me a few hours ago but I cannot find it now(?)
Anyway you asked why a church servant has to resign if a member of his family leaves the faith. Is he responsible for that?
Let's see what are the requirements for somebody to become an elder or a deacon (also a pastor since a pastor is selected from the body of elders).
Titus 1:5-9 "For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain ELDERS in every city, as I had appointed thee:If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, HAVING FAITHFUL CHILDREN not accused of riot or unruly. For a BISHOP must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre; But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate; Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers."
As we see an elder is also called bishop in the early church.
Also in 1 Timothy 3:1-7. Pay attention to verses 4-5 "One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?"
For deacons 1 Timothy 8-13. Verse 12 "Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well."
We see that God places on elders and deacons the responsibility for the faith and the right governing of their house.
Another requirement is that they have to be husband of one wife. That means that if their wifes die they have to resign since they can not keep their ministry if they get married again.
The procedure in my church in such cases is that if our children for any reason leave the faith we wait for sometime (not specified) to return. But if after a reasonable amount of time they don't, then the church servants have to quit their ministry.
"And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named APOSTLES;"
Now let's see the definition of the word "apostle". It comes from the greek "apostole" which means mission and "apostolos" (engl. apostle) means missioner, one who is sent (by God) to missions(to preach Jesus to people and establish churches). So don't get confused by the name apostle, it is not a mysterious title, it is a specific service, it simply means missioner.
So apostle is a person who is selected by God to send him to missions, that is to send him to the world to preach Jesus and establish churches. The 12 were the only ones who were sent to missions? Of course not. Those were for the Jews only. Paul was an apostle too, to the nations. Titus 1:1 "Paul, a servant of God, and an APOSTLE of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;"
Only Paul was an apostle to the nations? No not only him, all of his accompanions were, Barnabas, Luke, Timothy, Titus, Silas etc.
Also many others. Who established the church in Rome? In Collose? Not Paul, those churches were not established by Paul. Some other apostles(missioners) established those churches (although the Bible doesn't give any information about them). The 12 were the ones that lived with Jesus, the most formal ones, but there were many other who went and preached Jesus to the world and established churches. All those were not just disciples, they were apostles. Even in the following centuaries christians that went to all continents and preached the Gospel and established churches were apostles. As you said one of God's gifts to the church is the "apostle". Apostles never stopped existing in the church. Even today christians that perform that specific task are apostles.
Bible has the final authority in all manner of faith and practice. I encourage everyone to read only what God says, which is forever settled-The Bible is the finish revelation of God. Maybe you need to memorize the Bible then read whatever book you want to read to know they are in line with the word of God. The Bible is complete to show you current circumstances and listen only to saved fellow believers' advices.

Glory to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
The book of Enoch has a piece existing in the Book of Jude; as well as the narrative about his life in Genesis. There are other things which involve records of kings that are mentioned.
It is interesting to consider even Paul mentioning at the temple for the "unknown god" the pagan writings talking of God being near to all of us ( Acts 17:28); as well as the Cretian poem talking about their own people being gluttons and other unpleasant attributes as being true testimony in that respect ( Titus 1:12).
As historical literature from that period of time between the O.T. and N.T. we can glean some events such as the Maccabees account of what the Jews did resisting Antiochus Epiphanes that Daniel prophesied about along who would have similar traits to the final Antichrist. Thus; earlier Bibles included such texts for historical but not spiritual application that were of the Protestant mindset; the Catholic church itself states in their own commentaries that certain things are stories and not based on fact. Even with the best literature we find grievous errors such as praying for the dead (necromancy) that is forbidden in the rest of scripture. There are spurious accounts of Christ as well after the Resurrection that are not doctrinally sound. What we do find of accuracy is basically a repetition of the 66 books of the Bible in certain passages; such as can be found as well in Islam and other writings. There is lacking a "thus saith the Lord" or any prophetic statement with clear fulfillment either at that time or in the future.
Hi Lori. The only references we have that are specific to Church leadership, are found in 1 Timothy 3:2,3 and Titus 1:7, speaking about bishops, or leaders in the Church. The Apostle Paul in both letters gives similar instruction that bishops should not be "given to wine". There are various interpretations to this & even if we take the meaning from the Greek, I sense that they should not resort to alcohol, & certainly not make it something that is often consumed or depended upon. It's probably best to abstain altogether, but I don't see it as a clear prohibition.
Thanks brother Jesse. Both you & bro. Ronald have written similarly, which I've much appreciated, and I especially noted both your emphases on the word, 'they', which places this error upon others who engaged in this form of baptism, rather than on the 'we', (i.e. to the Corinthians who held to Paul's teaching, which would have been a correct belief & practise of baptism).
Another point: even if this practise wasn't occurring in the Church, Paul often referred to pagan literature/beliefs to support his teaching in some way. I think of Acts chapter 17: Paul's preaching to the Athenians who were given over to idolatry. Verses 28 & 29 in particular: "For in him (God) we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device."
As well as Titus 1:12: "One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, The Cretians are alway liars, evil beasts, slow bellies"; Paul writing to Titus & for him to be alert to the false teachers in Crete.
So, Paul was not averse to using extra-biblical references to support & re-instruct believers. Seeing this 1 Corinthians 15:29 verse in the midst of Paul's teaching on the resurrection, misled me to thinking that this verse must somehow fit into the rest of his teaching - hence my thought that "baptism for the dead" must be closer to 'baptism for (going to) the grave'. And then I notice verse 12, "Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?". This "some among you" may well be those who believed &/or practised that corrupt form of baptism. I often wish we could have had more information from Paul, indeed, more of the Word to help us grasp more fully the events of those times. Thanks for sharing with us on that point, brother.

I don't believe it's an oversight that God did not tell us the names of Lot's two daughters. Their story is inextricably linked to their father's actions and has implications not only for young people who find themselves in difficult situations, but a warning to every parent. It's a sad story in many ways, but also reveals God's merciful and redemptive character. We don't know their names because they could be any of us, were we to find ourselves in the similar circumstances.
[Don't Underestimate the Power of a Sinful Environment to Sear the Conscience]
In our modern culture, we are quick to judge these two young women and assure ourselves we would never resort to such desperate actions. We would be wise to learn from their experience.
Lot's daughters had grown up in a city where sexual immorality was commonly accepted. They were engaged to young men who scoffed at God's warning. God told Abraham, "The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave" ( Genesis 18:20). Apparently, there were not even ten righteous people in the city. Being surrounded by such influences had obviously seared the consciences of these two women; their idea to have sexual relations with their father seemed a logical and acceptable solution.
Left to ourselves, the human heart is deceitful and desperately wicked ( Jeremiah 17:9). Without the restraining and redeeming influence of God's Word and His Holy Spirit, we can't imagine the depths of sin to which we might go. Lot had failed to teach his daughters the truth about who God is; they were simply acting in accordance with the lifestyle and knowledge they had been given.
Titus 1:14 To the pure, all things are pure; but to those who are defiled and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their mind and their conscience are defiled.
According to Christ; "His sheep hear His voice." ( John 10:27). 2 Tim. 2:24-26 indicate that repentance indeed is a gift from God.
The basic premise is that we are all "children of wrath" by nature under condemnation apart from Christ. ( Eph. 2:3). If we cannot understand that man's heart is estranged from God; and that at best we try to avoid the consequences of sin rather than have any true remorse for offending a Holy; righteous and just God then we simply are living out a works based theology. Titus 1:15 shows further how our best actions are contaminated and defiled.
Human love only shows true affection for those who love us ( Matthew 5:46-48). To love those who "despitefully use us" ( Matthew 5:44) takes a change of heart; a Divine intervention and infusion of the Holy Spirit again which is given by God ( Ezekiel 36:26).
From OUR perspective we see ourselves drawn to the one from all eternity who created all things. ( Ecclesiastes 3:11). This verse shows again how even THIS is instigated in man's conscience by God. We need to realize that there is a process involved; as the parable of the seed and the sowers indicates. The seed from God (again planted on His initiative) is introduced; and ultimately must progress until "fruit is produced" (see also Matthew 3:8). TRUE repentance will overcome temptations that the Lord uses to prune us; as He "chastises all those He loves" ( Heb. 12:6; etc). God therefore initiates salvation; and the whole sanctification process ultimately leading to glorification ( Romans 8:17).
When we are saved; we have new desires to serve God and rejoice in the thought of service to Him now and in eternity. We begin a process of mortification of the deeds of the flesh ( Romans 8:13). From our perspective; we need to accept the truth about ourselves and our utter hopelessness apart from Christ in our own strength. The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom ) Proverbs 9; Psalm 111; etc). Jeremiah 32:40 shows God gives that

3rd consider why there's only bad, horrible, divisive news? Hebrews 6:8, Proverbs 22:5, Why do they report the one horrible thing or person & not the million good? Is it meant to trigger rage? Hebrews 12:1, Luke 6:43-45,

Peace and grace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thank you for the opportunity to have a dip at the tip of my tongue "of the cup that Jesus Christ drink of".
God forbid I would hurt the pure. I love all the saints. I pray for the fullness of the Gentiles and that ALL be saved and sanctified by the blood of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Hello Dora. We do see the Book of Jasher mentioned a couple of times in the Bible ( 2 Samuel 1:18 & Joshua 10:13), but as far as I can gather, the original writings have long been lost. Now, there have been several productions/translations made, & especially a false one in the 1700s AD, but all these have been highly suspect.
Reasons given: since the original manuscripts/copies aren't available, those who included certain books in the Bible were hesitant to include a book that only found proof in spurious writings. From the productions that are available, certain errors were found, being incompatible with the rest of Scripture (just as the OT & NT apocryphal writings were treated): chronological errors (i.e. matters of dates of writing or events) & suspect events (e.g. snow falling pre-Flood).
Some new NT writers also took quotes from extra-biblical sources (e.g. Paul quoted from a Cretian prophet (Epimenidus) in Titus 1:9-14; & also in Acts 17:28 (a Grecian poet); Colossians 4:16 (epistle from Laodicea - not found); 2 Timothy 3:8 and Jude 9 (from the Assumption of Moses - not included); and many more. So we see that references were made to certain 'other' books (whether true of false in content), but done so to strengthen the argument & to also gain a 'listening ear' from those opposed to the Gospel. I've often quoted from the Qur'an when speaking to Muslims, not to give support to their book, but to help gain their 'ear' to the declaration of Christ who is perfectly understood only in the Bible. Some may disagree with this, but it is an acceptable method (as seen in the Bible) when sharing across religions & cross culture.
So, the Book of Jasher was not intentionally hidden from us, but it was deemed unworthy to be included in the Bible, since the original production was not available, & the only ones available were spurious. But if deemed necessary, one could quote from it (& others) prudently to assist & strengthen the discussion.
I've met many atheists who've come to Christ. They have more hope than we sometimes give credit for as they're searching for answers. Most naturalist atheists I've met are more than willing to sit down and talk about the word of God. Those who have no political attachment tend to be more open to listening to the Gospel. I'd let her know that if she's your friend (your sister) that you love her and there's only truth in love. Tell her that the truth is simple. If we complicated the Truth, it would be hard for anyone to accept Christ Jesus. But here's that simple Truth of Salvation:
Titus 1:2, "In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, PROMISED before the world began."
Acts 13:39, "And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses."
[Law cannot justify, you can't justify your self, philosophy and religion cannot justify you...only justification through the Blood of Christ Jesus]
"For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" ( Romans 3:23)
Romans 10:8-13
"But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him."
The religious of this world seek to complicate the simple Truth (Salvation) of Christ with doctrines, sacraments, laws, pre-requisites and but these verses are Truth and the Truth shall set you free.
13For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
He's a Pastor of Harvest Church. The whole church participates in evangelism. He's a really great guy. Probably about your dads age. He has an "all purpose testimony like mine". You should read it to know what he's about.
If you subscribe all his most recent sermons will appear on your "home" button in the YouTube app.
Sometimes we have to go to some flaky churches to find one that really gets us involved.
I'm praying for you to find a true place of rest, like Psalm 23, describes. Keep coming back here when you have time. I love new faces. Make comments too. :D
Corruption came into the early church in different ways. With the church of Corinth (being such a large city back in the day) and in the 1st letter of Corinthians; we see there was cases of great discord and sin in their ministry. Paul rebukes that through the Holy Ghost. In 2nd Corinthians chapters 12 & 13 Paul gives instruction and warning to Corinth for things such as in 2 Corinthians 12:19-21. Look at Thessalonica...during Paul's first visit, they rejected him (although God's Spirit eventually broke through). Galatians was polluted with Judaizers (early Messianics).
Don't EVER put your Faith or confidence in a physical church. In a study I had the other day, I'd estimate more than 98% of churches today preach corrupt false doctrines and twist Bible verses. I see it here in this discussion too all the time. That's the church too. We should love and pray for the body of Christ (the church) but if you're hearing a preacher doing or saying something contrary to God's Word; simply leave. Don't cause a scene or anything else but simply leave.
Main line denominations have fallen far from God's Word for centuries now. Not one is in total agreement with the other. The most dangerous place is not even the physical churches. It's in internet churches, social media and right here on the internet. That's where I've seen some of the most blasphemous articles written on the Bible and called "theology." Remember, God's Word is simple and Christ's Salvation was for those simple the same. Anytime you notice it being complicated -- beware...there are wolves behind the pulpits today.
Just wanna get sure about titus chaoter 2 and 3 so poluted teching in churches are like sda, chatolich, baptis and evengelicals mayber more haves preverse gosple becous most of them techer you're not saved it you don't do this or are doing that and some go back to mosses laws. ?
6. And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.
7. And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.
8. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.
9. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he SPILLED IT on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.
10. And the thing which he did displeased the Lord.
There was a custom that if a brother die, his widow could conceive a child through his brother. The line of seed would continue. But this remaining brother refused to participate. He went in unto her, but he did not complete the act of impregnating her. He spilled it on the ground. He died, because it displeased God.
This shows us, that in sexual matters, God sees our intentions. The "marriage bed" is undefiled.
Titus 1:15
Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.
The LOVE of money is the root of all evil. ( 1 Tim. 6:10). Paul himself; in fact was a tentmaker; who encouraged others to make things with their hands ( Acts 18:3). He also apparently paid for food during his travels ( 2 Thess. 3:8). Those who used to steal were given similar admonitions to work and be productive. ( Eph. 4:28).
There is; of course nothing wrong for those actively pursuing work in the ministry to be supported and fed ( Luke 10:7). We should be discerning as to the financial accountability of those we support; however and aware of those attracted to "filthy lucre" ( Titus 1:11). Such behavior obviously is characteristic of those "prosperity preachers" whose mouth betrays their true intentions (out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh-( Luke 6:45). Such resources as "Charity Navigator" are helpful to demonstrate what percentages of funds are used directly for ministry purposes. The church itself; as a Body should be supporting one another as the early church; at least in some ways meeting each others needs; as well as contributing financially or using their talents for proclaiming the Good News and fulfilling the Great Commission.
We shouldn't neglect verses for laypeople to "work heartily unto the Lord."( Colossians 3:23-24). We are representing our King; much as Daniel served the king of Babylon daily during the exile ( Daniel 1:5). This was much the same pattern as with Joseph in Egypt. We are even to be faithful with "unrighteous mammon" ( Luke 16:10-11). If we can't be trusted with earthly things; how can we be trusted with heavenly treasure? There are plenty of warnings to avoid amassing large amounts of gold and silver ( Deut 17:17) which God instructed Solomon (along with many wives). Money itself; therefore is an inanimate object; but as they say if "money talks" or gets a life of it's own in our lives then it is clear that it has become an idol. Matthew 6:3 is a good read on the subject..
A Church seeking a pastor should examine each pastor candidate according to the qualifications that God has put in those 2 passages.
Enoch and Elijah are not the only two people in history that did not die but were translated into the presence of God. Anyone from the time of pentecost until the present that have been born again of the word of God, through the works of the cross, have not seen death. The two witnesses to this truth is Mosses and the prophets.

Luke 6:12-14

Glory to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
Not all the scripture below are totally relevant, but I think they will help:
Matthew 18:15-18
1 Corinthians 5:1-5
1 Corinthians 5:9-13
Galatians 6:1
1 Timothy 1:3-4
1 Timothy 1:20
1 Timothy 5:1-2
1 Timothy 5:19-20
1 Timothy 6:3-5
2 Timothy 4:2-4
Titus 1:10-11
Titua 3:10-11
Philemon 1:8-9
2 John 1:9-11
Rev 2:14
Rev 2:20

Let us be careful to study

Jeremiah 32:40 shows God gives that
If you would 1st please consider the way it makes you feel. As you stated "horrified" that's not of GOD. Galatians 5:22-25,
2nd please consider all around you. Is there peace, is there light, anything to be thankful for? Is searching out news also symbolic of wanting to "know" what's happening in the news" Genesis 2:17, Romans 16:19,
3rd consider why there's only bad, horrible, divisive news? Hebrews 6:8, Proverbs 22:5, Why do they report the one horrible thing or person & not the million good? Is it meant to trigger rage? Hebrews 12:1, Luke 6:43-45,

Sometimes we have to go to some flaky churches to find one that really gets us involved.
I'm praying for you to find a true place of rest, like Psalm 23, describes. Keep coming back here when you have time. I love new faces. Make comments too. :D
