    They say that the legend of centaurs first came when Greeks saw horsemen for the first time. Horses are not indigineous to the Pelopenesis so raiders from the north must have brought them down. The ancients mistook horse and rider as one being, probably because the thought of riding upon the back of any creature was so foreign to them. As flying machines would have been to ancients.
