I think "man" should be very careful with interpertation and taking word "liberity" with the pharse, "God said." Whereas, Theologians are "trained" to interpet, I have not found the scripture of God saying, "a man after my own heart." Yet, this interpertation is widely accepted. I didn't find that Samuel said, "a man after my own heart" ( I Samuel 16:13-14 KJV). I did read where the Apostle Paul
acribes "man after my own heart" as quoting God ( Acts 13:22KJV). I know that everything that was spoken was not written, but this quote about David from God,to me, when the text is really read it gives a different understanding, especially in the light of "man" understanding David's "short comings" and "after my own heart."
