In the new heavens and the earth, after this one is done away with . God is the light of it. There will be no need of the Sun. I suppose He was the light at the beginning of this one also until he made the Sun, moon and stars.

Yes, Yahuwah created light and darkness on the first day. He appointed the sun to rule over the day which means that wherever the sun is, the shall be light. This is why during a total eclipse, there is darkness because the ruler of the light has been hidden blocked from shinning unto the face of the earth.

How can something be a source of light if light does not first exist?

Here's 3 possible explanations off top of my head. First, God already created light in verse 3. God is the author of everything including laws of physics, so it's possible he just created light dark but didn't assign it to a source yet like sun moon. Second, it's possible the light was from the universe and stars. Third, the light could have been a temporary 'work light'. Just some ideas.

God made the "dark" earth light up on the first day but gave the different sources to distinguish day from night on the fourth day. We humans do not always understand the ways of God, He tells us in Isaiah 55:8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

And God said, Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, f and for days and years, 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth. And it was so. 16 And God made the two great lights the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night and the stars

The Holy Spirit that is sent to us also Supernatural. And for the longest time I never understood this and I never felt the Holy Spirit. Faith... if you want to know answers then you pray for them.
