I, even I, am that Michael Isaac Dale: on Colossians 3 - 5 years ago
Hear again O man, for as long as this heaven and earth remain, so will these wicked pervert the right ways of the LORD JESUS. And, for as long as Christ is in his flesh, so shall ye be in your flesh. And the woman whom GOD favours shall sleep until you repent of your own sins, giving place to faith. Thus, There is no darkness, nor shadow of death, where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.
Biblical repentance in context is to rethink or change your mind. Nowhere in scripture does it say repent of your sins. God repented several times he can not sin. We are to change our mind about where we put our faith and turn it to Jesus. It involves no human merit what so ever.
The word repentance is widely misunderstood. The Greek word for repentance in the New Testament is metanoia it means change of mind. It does not mean turn from sin. That is a work. And it does not fit with the context. God repented 27 or so times in the Old Testament. God can't sin. He changed his mind.
Cindy - so you claim repent does not mean to turn from sin?
Jesus told the BELIEVING CHURCH IN EPHESUS TO REPENT
Repent of what? their unbelief? a believing church repent of unbelief?
Revelation Chapter 2
1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.
5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
There are two different repents in the Bible. Buying a Greek lexicon would help you a lot. Every verse about salvation repent is metanoia. Means change your mind. Someone already saved it means to change direction. You can't mix the second with salvation because it adds works which perverts the Gospel. We can't add our works to Jesus' works.
Cindy writes: "We don't repent of anything. We change our mind from unbelief to belief. Repent does not mean to stop doing anything. It means to believe."
So in Revelation 2 Jesus told the BELIEVING CHURCH OF EPHESUS to repent of their unbelief?
This is what you think?
John the baptist and Jesus told the believing pharisees to repent of what?
Repentance does mean turn from sin. The KJV Bible is already translated correctly. People tend to like to only 'retranslate' the words or verses they don't like.
Who are you? I tell you, Nay: but, EXCEPT YE REPENT, ye shall all LIKEWISE PERISH. For I am not come to call the righteous, but SINNERS to REPENTANCE. And the times of this ignorance GOD winked at but now commands all men every where to REPENT: Therefore to HIM that knows to do good, and does IT not, to HIM IT IS SIN. There is joy in the presence of the Angels of GOD over one SINNER that REPENTED.
You can not stop sinning in the flesh. Biblical repentance is turning to Christ for salvation not trying to earn it yourself. After you are born again your inner man can not sin. Apostle Paul said that when he sins it is not him that does it but his flesh. If you think you don't sin anymore you need to re-evaluate yourself.
Amen. that which is born of soirit is spirit that which is born of flesh is flesh. just as you can hear the wind and not tell which way it comes or goes so is they born of the spirit
John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee. John 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more. Jesus is not confused and he didn't tell anyone to do anything that couldn't be done.
Read 1 John 1:8. If you say you have no sin you deceive yourself and the truth is not in you. We can not be without sin in the flesh. All we can do is be forgivin for it cleansed from the penalty of sin. That is what Jesus did for us. In order to understand scripture correctly you need to compare scripture with scripture and understand contest.
I am not saying Jesus is wrong. I am saying your understanding of what he is saying there is wrong. He was not telling the woman that because she was forgiven she could not sin anymore. He was saying i have forgiven you from now on don't make the same mistake again which in her case was adultery. That does not in any way indicate that she was without sin.
Hi Cindy, so according to your religion, Jesus would have said to the woman found in adultery, 'neither do I condemn you, go your way and sin all you like, because I'm going to die on the cross to pay the price for all your sins, past, present and future, so because of my death on the cross, you can sin all you want and still get to heaven, as long as you believe in me. that's a horrible religion. Who needs it?
Everyone needs that kind of God because we can not not sin. Anyone who says that have no sin is a liar and they call God a liar. If we were saved due to our behavior we would all split hell wide open. Thank God we are saved by what Jesus did because he can not fail. Our salvation is not made nor maintained by our works. Our works are not good enough. Self righteousness is what will keep people out of Heaven. Prostitutes will make it to heaven before self righteous people will. This is Biblical sound doctrine rightfully divided. Not religion.
I do believe you when you claim that you cannot stop sinning, because you are a member of a sect that tells you that you can't stop sinning, and that furthermore, you are led to believe that it's not that serious if you do sin, because it won't affect your salvation, so you have no motivation to even try. However people who belong to sects where they are told that they can stop sinning and that sinning has terrible consequences, do stop sinning, because they remain vigilant and avoid occasions of sin as Matthew Henry suggests on the Commentary on this website. The truth is that sinning does have terrible consequences for other people's salvation, as they observe the sinful lives of some Christians and decide, not surprisingly, that Christianity simply does not work.
You can't stop sinning either. If you say you are without sin you call God a liar and the truth is not in you. Just because you don't get drunk or murder or commit fornication does not mean you don't sin. We live in a sinful flesh body. We are saved by what Jesus did for us not what we do for him. We are not good but he is. Keep trying to work to earn your salvation. You will never obtain it. The only way to be saved is by trusting the Gospel. We are saved by Grace through Faith in the work of Jesus. Not by "being good" that is an acursed gospel. I can't believe you can read the King James Bible and believe in works. I believe in the works of Christ and God counts it to me for righteousness. Our works are filthy rags to God. They were never good enough to save us . If so then why the need for a Savior? If our works were not good enough to save us they are sure not good enough to keep us saved. The Holy Ghost is our seal. He preserves us. God saved us by his power and he keeps us by the same power. When you are born again and the Holy Spirit moves in your desires change. You don't want to sin. Anyone born again would know that. It's not a license to sin it it trusting God to save you to the uttermost. The sabbath was a shadow of our rest in Christ. It was a lesson that when God says to stop working stop working. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly. His faith is counted for righteousness. You gotta stop working and start trusting that what Christ did was enough. Religious people kill me. They look righteous on the outside but are dead men's bones on the inside.
GOD is the judge and, being my Holy Father, gives me my judgment. Had ye confessed my coming upon seeing IT, ye would be as holy Angels of GOD in the body of Christ. But being the children of disobedience, ye speak hypocrisy, perverting the Scriptures on the Sabbath day, hoping to drown men in perdition for filthy lucre's sake. Yet, GOD corrects a servant, who shall REPENT, and BELIEVE the Gospel.
Repent does not mean to stop sinning. It mean to rethink. Stop having faith in idols and put it on Jesus. Stop putting your faith in the law and put it on Jesus. The catholic defenition of repentance is wrong the greek defenition is the correct one. God repented several times in the Bible. Do you think he sinned? I am not against repentance . most don't even know what it means.
GOD corrects man, hiding pride from his heart. Man, fearing GOD, repents by confessing his own sins with a pure heart and in good conscience. GOD remembers his sins no more and gives him the gift of faith through Jesus Christ the righteous. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that comes to GOD must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
Correction hides pride, giving place to the fear of the LORD. The fear of the LORD, and not men, brings repentance. Repentance is true confession of thine own sins with the good conscience of a humbled heart and mind. GOD forgives, forgetting that man's sins, giving him faith in Christ. Faith in Christ is righteousness, opening his eyes to eternal life. Now fruitful, that man enters GOD'S Kingdom.
