    What about the merchant of verses 45 and 46? Was Jesus referring to the rich young ruler, who walked away rather than giving everything he had to obtain his redemption?

    A parable is story that is used with a truth in mind The merchant represents a man who is seeking truth, the pearl represents the truth which is Gods word and we know that Jesus is the Word. When he finds this truth pearl he gives everything that's important to him for this truth. Meaning as a Christian we are to give God what's important to us, our time, money and love our very life.Thats how important Jesus the living Word should be to us.
