    My understanding is that God does not give earthly as in monetary blessings to us if we serve him. Read through Stephens life he served God in purity and he was killed in the prime of his life. Paul seved God with his whole heart and ended up in prison. The blessings that we receive are heavenly blessings. So when we are called to go through hardship it will not crush us. Matthew 5:11-14
