Colossians 1:15, ,18 Who is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn of every created.

    18. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.

Jessica, Jesus is seen as a part of the Triune God (i.e. NOT three Gods, but three Persons or Personalities). And this one God in Heaven are the Father, the Word & the Holy Spirit ( 1 John 5:7). However, for the sake of the redemption of mankind, God in due time sent His Word to Earth as Jesus, His Son, to give His Life a ransom for all (read Romans chap 5). Yes, God is intimately concerned & involved in every believer's life: He gives us His Spirit to do this work after we are born again (read John chap 3 & chap 14:16-21). We hear God speak to us through His Word ( 2 Tim 3:16) & His Spirit ( Rom 8:16: speaks of the Spirit speaking with our spirit, so we remain in tune with God's Holy requirements for us, how to behave, where to go, what to do, how to speak, wisdom, telling another about Christ, etc). I find the King James version is the best as it has been translated from the original Text (Textus Receptus). But if you don't understand the English, then read New KJV or New American Std.

Jessica: best Bible for study is a King James Version with columns in the center of each page for cross referencing. Also that has a dictionary and good sized concordance. Harmony of the gospel books & maps.

I've actually found those at Goodwill that sadly got donated. I buy them and give them to anyone who says they don't have a Bible :) my favorite thing to do.

I found that the best way to study is to read a whole book at a time. Don't skip around unless you are reading the verses from that center column.

In the Harmony books (Matthew, Mark, Luke, John) is four Disciples that saw and heard the same things: the same thing written down by a tax collector, a doctor, etc)

I pay close attention to what Hod is saying and what Jesus is saying and doing.

We're going to be spending eternity in heaven with them, and we need to find out everything we need to know now.

When back to school sales start I get a dozen notebooks to take notes, ask questions, things to look for later.

I don't believe that we will know or have knowledge to understand all the BIBLE says to us. Kjv is for me. All the adds an takeaways in the Niv is just not right. Remember what revelations says about taking away an adding to the word of GOD.

I'm in agreement, Larry. We need to take much care, not only with Gnostic influences within the Church but also in the translation of the Scriptures. Yet, I feel for those who do find the 'old' English difficult to grasp & to be reading another 'accurate' version is preferable than not reading & understanding the Scripture at all.

In my work with Muslims in Pakistan, I often asked them if they understood what they read in the Quran (note, it is incumbent on them to read it in Arabic). In almost cases, they didn't understand it, but were happy to be in that state, for in reading from the original language (Arabic), some blessing/God's Favour was supposedly received. Of course, through this ignorance, our Christian witness becomes stronger to be able to teach them Truths from the true Word of God.
