What is the difference in the spiritual gifts we see in chapter 12 of the book of Roman's and chapter 12 of the book of 1 Corinthians. Is correct to say there are 15 spiritual gifts and that each one of us is gifted in one of these areas?
Teboho, I see that both these accounts, referring to Spiritual Gifts, as complementing each other. I don't think that we should necessarily look at these lists from the apostle, as exhaustive. They may well be other gifts that have not been specifically mentioned. But what is evident, is that God wants His Church to be well equipped in serving each other, for the building up in our faith & blessing of each other. After all, we are a community within a community & just as parents give all due care & instruction to their children, so the Church, with its members so gifted, should also use those gifts for the building up of one another in love. It may be true that certain gifts may not be seen or even necessary in a fellowship today, but the Spirit does give each one a gift to be used to edify the Body.
You may, or may not have, a gift from the Spirit that is listed there. It may be something very unique, just as each one of us is unique in Christ. The important part is that the person with the gift or position is not elevated (as was being done in Corinth, 1 Cor 3:4), but rather that the Church grow & the gift in that person be exercised. How do we know our gift? It won't come as a letter from Heaven but most likely as we walk with the Lord & are active in our Fellowship, we will sense our special God-given abilities, our direction, our joy in service even when it gets demanding, because we will know that this is the Lord's doing & enabling & blessing to the Church must be the result.
Well said Chris. I would like to add - work together for the good of the church & the glory of God. As Chris said, everyone has something unique to offer.
God bless
