Seeing a gigantic SUV with a fish symbol on the back bumper; going 80 mph in a 50mph speed zone, Race by me, UPSETS ME !! I pray for a cop to be at the next corner.
I'm not being in a mean spirit when I say, if we are born again, blood washed believers, we ought to represent Jesus as law abiding citizens too. If we're going to be law breakers, DO take off the crosses and fish magnets. Amen.
I don't believe it would be considered idolatry to have a cross hanging there or even in a house.
I think what's important is the reason for having it there. For some, it may be a visual reminder of the Saviour & the empty cross (as opposed to those who prefer a crucifix, showing the un-resurrected, un-ascended Saviour), or it may be just a sacred symbol to show others that the Cross is central to the occupants' lives, or maybe to afford protection to those in proximity to it. If it is a crucifix (where worship could be directed to it) or to assure safety from harm, then I believe that these reasons could be considered as hallmarks of idolatry.
Personally, I refrain from any symbol, image or anything else that attempts to describe the Deity. I think a meaningful Scripture as wall hanging would do more for me & those visiting my home. However, the decision is yours & you might get some input from others here. God bless.
