It has always fascinated me, since coming to the age of reasoning, that there's even a hint of the possibility of Christ's parentage, ".....at about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph....verse 23 of Luke chapter three. Why would the Almighty allow that and for what reason? Please respond. Thank you in advance.
Hi Modesto Olivio. I think the statement in Luke 3:23 regarding the parentage and approximate age of Jesus revolves around the issue of Mary's pregnancy as a virgin before her marriage to Joseph. There is the marriage date recorded in the temple, the date of legal parentage as recorded in the registry in the temple, and the revelation of Jesus at the time of His ministry at around the age of 30 that He was the Son of God. I'm speculating now that the Temple had registered the date of the marriage of Joseph and Mary and less than 9 months later Jesus was born. The numbers don't add up, so I think that's why the parentage and age issue are thus. The registry (genealogy) was destroyed 70 AD. We are talking about Joseph legally being His (adoptive) father (and Joseph was of Davidic lineage) to fulfill legal requirements until Christ's ministry was established.
