Paul's letter to the Philippians was written by Paul (considered one of his letters he wrote while imprisoned in Rome). He wrote it to the Church in Philippi, which he founded during his second missionary journey. Philippi was a small city, founded by King Philip of Macedonia (father of Alexander the Great). The residents were called Philippians. The other city close to Philippi was Thessalonica, which was the second city that Paul preached to during that journey. And so we read of Paul's other two letters to that Church also. Both Philippi & Thessalonica were in Macedonia (if you want to see it on a map, then it would be located just north of Greece).
