Exodus 12:42: "It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations."
This night of the LORD passing over (or, passing by) the children of Israel who had the blood of the lamb applied on the lintels & doorposts of their houses in Egypt, & not destroying their firstborn, was to be perennially remembered by them. So, it was a time for celebration of their freedom from their bondage to the Egyptians & is celebrated as an eight-day festival in the early Spring, from the 15th through to the 22nd of the Hebrew month of Nissan, or, in this year, March 27 - April 4, 2021.
Nowadays, for the Jew who turns to Christ for salvation, & also for the Gentile who believes, our Passover Lamb is Christ Jesus ( 1 Corinthians 5:7). His Blood was shed for us so we should not have our blood spilt. His Blood was applied to our hearts by God so that it is God in His great Love that has done the work of Salvation for us & not of ourselves. Whenever the LORD passes by our hearts, he sees the Blood of His Son, His Sacrifice, applied, so that we will never be condemned for our sin, with the World. And we no longer have to wait for the month of Nissan to celebrate this merciful Act of God for us, but we can do it any day, every day, whenever we meet together as believers around the Lord's Table to remember our special day (when the Lord's Spirit met us, saved us, & brought us into God's fold).
"Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations." Exo 12:40-42
The night to be much observed was the night of the tenth plague on Egypt when the firstborn were killed by God unless the household was identified by blood on the doorposts and lintel.
"For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will PASS OVER the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you." Exo 12:23
