    Mark 6:18 - Why was it illegal for Herod to marry Herodias? Her husband was deceased..... please explain. Thank you.

    Shirley,

    According to Jewish law, Herod was committing adultery. That is why John said it is unlawful for you to have your brother's wife.

    Leviticus 18:16 says "Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness."

    Again in Leviticus 20:21, it says "And if a man shall take his brother's wife, it is an unclean thing: he hath uncovered his brother's nakedness; they shall be childless.

    Shirley - I'm not sure that Phillip was deceased - the scripture does not say that he was.
