What do verses 4 and 5 mean? One says not to answer a fool and the next verse says too.

I used to have the same problem as President Trump. If someone hauled off and smacked me verbally; I sent one back over.

I finally arrived at the point of deep disgust with my deep infirmity. I was never so happy as when I got "tested" on resolve, and passed without even a ripple. Happiest day of my life; I added to the other happy days.

There are times where it's appropriate to ignore the fool (v4) and times to expose the fool (v5). God bless.

I believe it's time to expose the fools on the Democrat party and call Biden and his administration for what they are, which are Marxist/communist. We pray that God will "lift their skirts" and expose their evil intentions for all to see. We are in a spiritual battle between good and evil. In the end our God reigns!!!

Dear Rick, Why would God have to wait longer, past seeing His Son carry the sins of man by His flesh to the Cross? Surely he can reign now by His believers that do not glory in themselves, but in the Cross.

    For our meditation together.

Hi Carlton. Yes.....!!! Our God reigns always. What I stated was merely pointing out that we have a President and an administration that are corrupt, and have evil intentions that will destroy this nation, if left unchecked. Thanks!

I agree, these verses seem to negate each other & the more studious types have not been able to come to agreement on their meaning.

I can only understand verse 4 to mean: whatever answer or explanation one tries to give one who is irrational, unreasonable, imbecilic, & other choice adjectives, can only mean that one will descend into the same state of a never-ending argument that will not profit the foolish enquirer & bring on greater despair to the responder.

Yet, verse 5 could mean: rather than trying to explain the matter rationally with an irrational person, one could answer him directly & sternly to expose his folly so that the forceful word might just alert him to his pitiful condition & mental deficiency which might cause him to take the strong word to heart.

In other words, the 'foolish' person might have more chance of responding to a direct command or warning than to listening to a well prepared explanation, which would do him no good.

    My brother Chris,

It gives me joy to see your posts again. Your presence here was sorely missed. You are most definitely a very special and important member in the body of Christ. Helping us all grow in the Word of God.

    God Bless you brother.

Thank you for your kind words brother Richard. We're all learning & growing together so whatever the reader determines as true & useful to him/her, must be a positive for both head & heart knowledge. I've continued to follow most of the posts whilst away & noted particularly that you have been tested in the spirit by some, but have admirably come through established on God's Word & the the very real joy you have in Him. I continue to be refreshed by you & others who remain steadfast in the Word & faith. Every blessing.

Good morning all, God Bless our hearts today in inspiration and conviction. Tomorrow here, my two older children will have a nice group of of their peer brothers and sisters over in the early evening (mom and dad are hoping outside). These young people love each other in a special way because they all know Jesus. Hope another day of discussion goes well.

    Thank you.
