Verse 10: As we have opportunity let us do good to all men especially to those of the household of faith. Question: Who are those of the household of faith and Why is more attention given to them?
Brother Bailey gave a great response. I would like to share a little more with you if I may. Galatians 6:10 says, "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good to all men."
That word good is the word AGATHOS. It's the good of God. It doesn't mean do humanitarian good things. It means the goodness of the Spirit of God ministering through us to others.
As you have opportunity, do good to all men. It's not human effort. It's the Spirit of God working through the believer that causes that believer to do good to others.
And then it says, "Especially unto them that are of the household of faith." The believers in Christ are top priority!
There are too many churches that make the non-believer the priority and they don't take care of their own.
Many believers go without food, and the church can be going through difficult financial circumstances, but they are willing to spend thousands of dollars on advertising and on various church programs in order to attract more people to their church. And the church suffers because we are not taking care of our own.
My prayer is that God would raise up believers with a care and concern to reach other believers. That would be nice!
In fact Jesus said, all men will know that you're my disciples when you have love for one another, meaning other believers. Brothers and sisters in Christ have top priority. No one should experience the inability to live and function with food and clothing and shelter.
So the conclusion is let us do good for all men, but especially to those who are of the household of faith.
Amen, brother Jesse. Today a very small group of believers meets in a rented office building in Anaheim. A local minister and his family went down to fellowship with the little group for the weekend.
The household of faith is the Church which is the believers in Christ. In 1 John we are told if we love Christ we will love our brother also. We are expected to love and show care to everyone, but especially to our own family, which is other believers in Christ.
Dear Michael Eyeh, The responder "Jesse" provided an outstanding answer to your question, "Who are those of the household of faith and Why is more attention given to them?"
