What happens to our soul or spirit after death? Does it go directly to heaven or hell? Does it go to another realm before our judgement ? Is our judgement immediatecafter death?
Linda, May CHRIST IN US grace us with HIS wisdom and HIS understanding.
I AGREE AND BELIEVE everything Jesse said in his comment to you. I will expand MY BELIEF a little more.
I BELIEVE that Christ; with the elect, are and will judge the world (Satan's kingdom that Christ took back at HIS resurrection). ( Matthew 4:8-9) ( Revelation 11:15) ( 1 Corinthians 6:2) ( 1 Peter 4:17)
I BELIEVE the parable of the workers; those called to work in God's vineyard, are the elect. Those called in the first hour are the apostles and others that took part in Pentecost. Since that first hour other workers have been called; till the present hour. Ourselves now being judged by the word of God; by our brothers before us, they being ONE IN CHRIST; have also become THE WORD, the BOOKS. ( Revelation 20:12) ( Revelation 20:4)
Matthew 19:28
Romans 11:31-32
Romans 8:19 For the earnest EXPECTATION of the creature WAITETH for the MANIFESTATION of the Son of God.
Romans 8:21 Because the creature ITSELF ALSO shall be DELIVERED from the bondage of corruption unto the glorious liberty of the children of God.
Revelation 10:10 And I took the little book out of the angel's hand, and ate it up; and it was in my mouth sweet as honey: and as soon as I had eaten it, my belly was bitter.
Revelation 10:11 And he said unto me. thou must PROPHECY AGAIN before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings.
I BELIEVE at the departure of this body we will be given THE FULLNESS OF GOD; which also will be HIS BODY, OMNIPRESENT able to judge others as he now judges us.
I firmly believe that when we die, our soul goes immediately into the presence of the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:1 says, "For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle (physical body) were dissolved (physical death), we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.
Paul goes on to say in Verse 6, "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body (physically alive right now), we are absent from the Lord:"
But then in Verse 8, he says, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."
Please notice that when we're here, the Lord's with us but we're not with Him in heaven. But as soon as you are absent from the body, as soon as you experience death, which means separation, as soon as your spirit leaves your body, you're in the presence of the Lord.
Paul said that his physical death would be far better for him than remaining alive because he knew that he would be in the presence of Christ. That is given to us in Philippians 1:23.
In Acts 7:59, at the stoning of Stephen, it tells us that as they were stoning him, he was calling upon God. And this is the thing that Stephen said first of all when they were stoning him. He said Lord Jesus, receive my spirit. It reminds me of Luke 23:46, "And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said Father, into thy hands I commend my Spirit. And having said thus, He expired or gave up the ghost."
So, when we die, our physical body goes into the grave and waits until the resurrection where we will receive a new glorified body. But at death, our soul separates from the physical body and goes to be with the Lord immediately.
2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
(It is at the time of Christ's return that Christians are taken to heaven to be where Christ is. If Christians were already with Christ prior to that, there would be no need for Christ to receive them to himself.)
1 Corinthians 15:22,23
22 For as in Adam all die, even so in Christ shall all be made alive.
23 But every man in his own order: Christ the firstfruits; afterward they that are Christ's at his coming.
(It is at the time of Christ's return that Christians are made alive. If Christians were already alive prior to that, there would be no need for them to be made alive.)
1 Thessalonians 4:15-17
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
(It is at the time of Christ's return that Christians are caught up in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. If Christians were already with Christ, there would be no need for them to be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.)

This is a very important question like many other questions.
What happens to the soul should be one of the most important questions to everybody.
Firstly I would like to advise that the answer must come from GOD through HIS WORD.
Let us read or hear what GOD says through HIS WORD.
I Love The King James Bible because through This BIBLE, I came to realize who is the BISHOP of my soul!
Please read :
(1) 1 Peter 2:25 " For ye were as sheep going astray, but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.
(2) Colossians 3:3 "For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God"
Amen
