Our son has worked with us as a subcontractor for many years, and we had an agreement that he would assist us as we aged and that all of our earthly possessions including the 128 acre farm would go to him... This was a blessing for his faithful service, BUT... After marriage his wife didn't comprehend the family working together in the same direction even though she had the blessing of "Staying Home, Free Rent and Future Ownership of the Family Farm." My son changed overnight. Disrespect became a constant toward his parents. Very disturbing... His work slipped and he didn't care. I gave him the week off to think about whether he'd like to continue working for us and he went into a rage. Then he went to family and friends and painted us (his parents) as the bad guys. He cannot be talked with as he gets very angry and a few years ago he injured me during one of his flare ups. My back took two years to recover from the impact. He lives next door... The farm is owned by my father in law with whom I do not have the best relationship. He could make life rough, but we know who our true provider is. He may own the farm until his passing and a that time it is to go to my wife, but I'm looking for a heavenly country.
Thank you for your prayer support. We are finding comfort in the promises of God as we find in the Scriptures. At the same time we see the heart of our son hardening especially toward me his Dad. We simply cannot bless his choices and he cannot work for us if he refuses to show respect and honor to us as parents. This will bring much hardship on both us and our son, but he will ultimately lose far more. May God have mercy on my son, but I pray he will be brought low and humbled.
I wont fill you with the ole platitudes like lead by example, don't let your heart get hardened, show your son and his wife the respect and honor you desire, to humble yourself before the LORD in this matter, continue to pray and to remember that the outcome you desire may not be in alignment with God's plan or your child's free will. These are all things you already know so again I wont expound on them. I will say Be patient, kind, understanding, loving, prayerful & accepting of whatever the outcome. These things are VERY easy for me to say from the outside looking in but for your well being (body & soul) it's what you should consider. I will continue to pray for you and your family. Your brother in Christ.
Lauren, I greatly appreciate that... My wife (62) came with me today as we did mechanical work that my son always did. It was hot and the job of grueling. We're gonna need physical and spiritual strength.
