    Hi Seeker , I think we have had this question before but I don't mind answering it again , please don't be offended , I'm guessing that you haven't read the old testament , it's vital and will help you enormously with your understanding of the New , Jesus knew it and believed it and so did the Israelites or Jews if you prefer . Please read Psalm 22 . The Jews will have known this Psalm and will have recognised that Jesus was quoting from it . It was written by king David very many years before Jesus was born and it is all about Jesus . I believe Jesus quoted it in order to draw attention to the fact that it is all about him so that the Jews around him would recognise that it is all about him . It's a good idea , in my opinion , to read the old testament before you read the New , its up to you but there are so many things in the old that will really help you understand the new faster and easier .     Ask yourself why did Jesus come to die for us? He came to seek and to save that which is lost. When Jesus died he bore the sins of the world. And, God which is Holy and Perfect, turned away from sin.

    So in conclusion

    When Jesus died on the cross He bore our sins and God can't look at sin (because He is perfect) so He forsook Jesus.
