Meaningful discussion, y'all, thanks. To me, the word "thanfulness" comes to mind when I read this chapter. Noah built an altar and offered up a sacrifice to God. He was not bitter towards God for destroying everything that lived upon the land of earth. he was not confused about why God flooded the earth. He was not boastful due to being spared by God. He was not "fast out of the chute" to get to work and begin rebuilding with his plans already made and drawn out. He was not anxious about how he'd be able to survive on a flooded earthbed. He sought to honor God first, before God even spoke to him after the flood. He repeated the type of worship he had learned from his forefathers; an altar and a sacrifice. The text does not say if he said any words to God at this worship time, but I think he was expressing his gratitude to God and his agreement with God that what God did was just. A year in a closed ark being tossed by waves, pummeled by torrents of rain, darkness, probably wasn't a cakewalk. But Noah trusted God in/through/and after this catastrophic event he knew ahead of time was to happen and probably pondered the ramifications of God wiping out everyone he knew but his immediate family. Noah and his family had only God to interact with during this time. Were they lonely on the Ark or when they stepped out of the ark to an empty landscape, knowing that it was the same all over the world? It's not as if their family took a vacation to "get away from it all". They were totally in God's hands in the ark and afterwards. How long did it take for the ground to produce vegetation for food. Was it during the growing season when they left the Ark? God left them with no one to trust but Himself. When Noah offered God his worship, God was pleased. Isn't it good to know that our worship pleases God! Noah came with his gift to the altar with no offense between himself and God. That is a beautiful mind picture to consider.

Then God spoke to Noah with a promise. Amazing!
