Hello KJV Bible readers...I'm new in my Church..and here too..I'm a 5 month old "baby" in the Church..(don't know if anyone understands that) ..but were getting ready pretty soon..the end of December..to have a 3 day "Fast"...I have only done that one time in the past and it was for only 24 hrs..I hear we are to only drink water for 3 days..no tea no juice and no nothing to drink or food at all..just water..and I wonder is it hard ?..I feel it's going to be kinda hard...I defiantly do not want to cheat..for the Lord Jesus will know, and I don't want to let him down...or my son or the Church or my Pastor..what should I do to keep my mind off food ?..thank you for any replies..and this time I will try to rember names so I can reply directly to the person who answered me...Thank You :) and Merry Christmas & Happy New Year
dear T. Levis .thanks for all the scripture to read on..this is great becouse you have left me lots to read..I'm writing all of it down right now..and will get busy reading and studying these scriptures you put there for me..Thanks a million !!
First of all, pray and be sure that God is calling you personally to partake of this fast that your church family is doing. Just because the pastor or others make a call to fast doesn't automatically mean that everyone in the church must do it.
If you feel that God is calling you to do this, ask him how you are to do it. Maybe water only, or water and one or two other beverages each day. God will let you know. It would not be cheating to alter what the pastor has asked for. the important thing is to do what God is asking you to do.
I have fasted for a week a handful of times. It wasn't hard after a few days. I suggest filling a pitcher with water to keep in the fridge and always refill your water bottle as soon as it is emptied. Drink as often as you can. When you feel hungry, pray instead or read the word and pray alternately. Occupy yourself with things that take up time without using lots of energy. But most of the time should be devoted to the Lord and the topic or persons the prayer fast is for. If other prayer needs come to mind, pray for those as well. God is working with your open heart. Write down the times and people/topics you pray for as you finish praying. This way you can have a memorial/testimony of how God worked in and through you.
And the truer you stay to the fast without "cheating" the easier it is. God will help you.
Dear GiGi...Thank you so much for your answer ..Yes thats a good idea to write stuff down..yes a testimony !..that sounds awesome..I will write it down..who I was praying for and what I prayed for for myself and other's, like my family and for the people in the world who don't know Christ yet..and thanks I will fill up a picture of water and put it in the fridge..thanks for these ideas..Yes I will pray on it too..and I will try to keep busy..doing stuff will keep my mind off food..maybe clean my room or take my cat for a walk..I taught her to walk on a leash..and thanks for all the really good ideas..I will pray and read Gods word too as you suggested I should do too..and do a Bible study here on this site too ..I like the quiz section..I'm a beginner..but I'm working on my knowledge of Gods word..and I really am becoming to like this site..and I thank God for saving me and everything he has done for me throughout my life...And for my Church and my pastor..life is alot better now ..since making the decision to live for God.& thanks also for helping me and knowing it is better to not cheat..becouse God will know and he will bless me for fasting.
One more thing I wanted to add. I feel led to tell you of personal experience & advice given to me that was very helpful.
I moved away from home very young there was a time that I only ate on Thursdays because work had slowed down. My bills were paid responsiblely but after gas money to & from work there wasn't much left. Years later I was told about Fasting & Prayer, It was difficult to consider after painful past experience. Advice : pray everytime your stomach growls, pray during lunch, dinner & other eating times.
Hi Catherine Gordon. Fasting is very good, both spiritually and physically. If you are feeling weak pray to the Lord within your heart. Ask him to help you through the day. We can do all things through Jesus Christ.
Dear Kent..Thank you I will read this one : Isaiah 58..thanks for your reply..getting to know and rember the Bible in it's books and scripture is very exciting..Thanks so much :)
