Is it safe for a pregnant woman to fast?
  • GiGi - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Claudia,

How far along in the pregnancy is this person? How long does this person wish to fast? Most importantly, why?

These are questions I would like to know before I speak much to this.

But this I know. When a mom fasts during pregnancy, the baby will take the needed nutrients from the Mom's bloodstream. So, a lengthy fast or one done frequently can cause many nutritional upsets for the mom and eventually the baby. Mom can become low on iron and become anemic, which is harmful for both mom and baby. Frequent fasting can deplete b vitamins, which are necessary for proper development of a baby, especially folic acid which also uses iron and vitamin d to metabolize properly.

The Mom may should really consult her doctor on this. He knows her health and concerns, we do not.

I would appreciate the answers to the questions I posed, if you wish to do so. I want to understand the situation better.

Hi Claudia Given that the first and great commandment is to love God with all your heart soul mid and strength

and Love your neighbor as you love yourself, your need for now is to you and the life your carrying. Nothing says

not to snack or consume some food, don't make it if I don't somethings wrong then its works and not grace. Gods

word is all things in balance. This is food for thought. Last we do because we want to not because we have to

that is walking by the spirit! Prayerfully that helps.

Fasting has to be a personal decision. Isaiah 58, Matthew 6:16-23, some fast from television, social media, movies

Some would recommend only a Daniel type fast where he refrained from sweet breads, like cakes, pies, cookies, meats but had rich protiens, Pulse like black eyed peas, lintils, humus, vegetables. Daniel 1:12, Daniel 10:2-3,

    2 Chronicles 20:5-30, 2 Chronicles 20:13, Jonah 3:5, Joel 2:15-18,

    Hopefully these are helpful
