If Jesus was given as the sacrifice for all men's sin (which I believe he was), then why does he say that few will find Salvation? Didn't his sacrifice cover all sin for all men?
Hi Jerimiah. Yes, Jesus was sacrificed to pay the price of our sin that we couldn't pay - and that payment was God's requirement as His pure Lamb was killed as our substitute, so we wouldn't have to take the awful penalty of God's Judgement against us. So the Sacrifice was for all mankind - but not all mankind want that Sacrifice. Jesus' Coming & Death was God's Gift to us so we can have our sins forgiven & enjoy eternal life with Him - but not all want to receive that Gift. In fact, not only do they refuse Him, but also shame & mock Him with their talk & way of living, just as those Romans & Jews did at Jesus' crucifixion.
So, the way is indeed narrow - the narrow path to eternity that only a few can traverse on, as God's children looking to the day when they will be with their God & Father & Jesus Christ. But the other way is wide, for there are so many more that have refused the Gift, & so blinded by their own lusts & passions, that they don't even recognize that hell is at the end of it ( Matthew 7:13,14; Luke 13:23,24). Every man, woman & child has the Blood of Christ available for them - it's now up to them what they do with that great expression of God's Love - God doesn't force that Gift upon them. That is why John 3:16 is so precious: "For God so loved the world (all people), that He gave His only begotten Son (as His Sacrifice for them), that whosoever believeth in Him (they must come - they must place their trust in Jesus), should not perish, but have everlasting life (life forever in God's Presence & not a life forever in hell's torment).
I stand at the door, and knock - Even at this instant; while he is speaking this word. If any man open - Willingly receive me. I will sup with him - Refreshing him with my graces and gifts, and delighting myself in what I have given. And he with me - In life everlasting.
People's Bible Notes for Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door, and knock. The language implies that Christ is near. If they will open the door by repentance he is ready to enter and bless. If any man shall hear my voice, and open the door. Hear and obey. Then the Lord will enter, and they shall partake together of the richness of the feast.
Comment: Jesus isn't going to knock on the door and when you open to Him, he's going to start listing all the unconfessed sins.
He's been knocking all along. Most of us know that dark closet in our soul where we hide the sins.
We have to open the door, and let the Lord begin His work. He's gentle and direct. We are healed. The closet is emptied and we are Free; healed.
Jesus Christ was ministering when he went into His Home town of nazareth of galilee Mathew 13:53-58 he
could not due many mighty works because of their unbelief! All thing of God are given upon man first
believing to receive i.e. confess Romans 10:9+10 and believe in thine Heart action mouth then inner most part
and then God can work.
