I just realized on the first day God created the heaven and the earth. Scripture goes on to say when God moved upon the face of the deep meaning in the beginning God; darkness and water which was deep God said, let there be light. So, then when I read verses 14 through 19, God made the sun, moon and the stars. So, I was asking God what kind of light was it on the first day? Does anyone in the community have a thought on my question? Thank you all. God bless.

Saved, I think the first 5 verses should answer your question. Genesis Chapter 1

1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.

5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

There was no light, only darkness. God created everything. Hope this helps.

    Dear Saved,

I was searching on Google for the information I had read a while ago on this subject, but could not locate it. Perhaps we will not know what this light was or what it was like this side of heaven, but we can be sure that if the God commanded it, it happened as said in Genesis 1:3. somehow, we limit our thinking to what we know scientifically about light. We assume that the light source must be something like a sun. But God can do anything and He may have done something unique for that "day". But in keeping with the language used in Genesis "Let there" I believe that it was a created light, not His radiance because His radiance is part of His essence and cannot be created or taken from Himself, as far as classic theological viewpoints go.

    Lots to think about.

    Read it slow

2 And the earth was without form, and void; and DARKNESS was upon the face of the deep. And the SPIRIT OF GOD moved upon the face of the waters.

Verse 3, in Hebrew (since Moses wrote first 5 books)__God said, LIGHT BE

Gigi It doesn't say create it says let there light so it already existed it was just switched on.

Perhaps, Rick. But at some time physical light was created. It has mass (one photon) and is affected by time. so it is physical matter. This is how I understand the creation narrative. It tells us of what God created when He brought all of creation into existence.

Gigi. Genesis 1:1 God days in the

    Beginning He created the heavens

And the earth so everything that it

Consisted of was there, in Genesis 1:3 God put back in orderHis creation . That' s why in Genesis God

    Only created something three times

    I'm just quoting what's written .

    Understood Rick,

How did it get "out of order"

Gigi Who is the author of disorder and confusion and every evil work is the answer, its not not the God and

father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • Rick - In Reply - 3 years ago
Gigi. Keeping this simple and aligned with scripture who is the author of all confusion? It is not the true God
  • GiGi - In Reply - 3 years ago
I read somewhere that this light may have been a quasar.

I also read, as Rick said, it may have been that God flooded the universe with is holy /radiance.

But I do think that it was a physical light, created at that time, not a pre-existent light such as God's radiance.
  • Saved - In Reply - 3 years ago
Thank you Gigi. Your point was well taken. I will have to look up the word you used quasar.

But I agree with you that the first light was physical.

    Be blessed sister in Christ.

Saved My understanding is spiritual light Genesis 1:2 God turned on that which He is 1 John 1:5 God is light and in Him is darkness at all, because as you stated physical light came later, the word light in verses 14 +15 are

the word [maor for light giver] I.E. sun moon stars in the gospels and new testament the word for light is [phos or radiance ]I.E. in 1 Thessalonians 5:5 we are children of light or radiance. There is a physical and a spiritual light both

are products of the true God, and obviously spiritual darkness is the other side.

Rick, you are so on it. I never thought about the way you broke my question down. I will cherish this explanation you replied to me. So true there is a physical and there is a spiritual light which Jesus said that we who are born again would be the light of the world.

I just became a member of this community today 12/29/2021, Wednesday and to get your response just makes me so so happy!

Be blessed my brother in Christ Jesus.
