I hear often how simple scripture is to understand bur yet the Bible is the most debated collection of books ever.
Flesh is what Satan works with to confuse, that's why Jesus says John 8:43-47. also
John 10:27. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:
They don't become his sheep by following him. They follow him "because they hear his voice " And he lay them down in green pasture. You'll see the results in fruit barring. Something the Law and those who desire to be under it cannot do.
Jesus/truth is a stumblingblock unto them.
Touching scripture Jesus says
John 5:38-39.
And the writer to the Hebrews-
Hebrews 10:7. Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Jesus came to minister reconciliation by means of "GRACE by faith" to a lost and condemned world. This grace is emphasized all through scripture and climax at the cross.
Romans 4:11.And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also.
Hebrews 10:5-9. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
This is revealed in the heart of those who believe.
Any message deviates from this reveals the blindness mentioned.
You stated: "I hear often how simple scripture is to understand bur yet the Bible is the most debated collection of books ever."
I feel many are blessed with " a simple way of understanding" when reading, and comprhending, the scriptures. I pray to God everyday for the wisdom to fear God, and for God to bless me with his Holy Spirit for his guidence while studing his Bible Scripture. I believe that God blesses me and can only attribute this ease of my understanding to the Holy Spirit.
I'm sure many can look for deeper understanding on various aspects of scripture in the OT and NT, Jewish laws, Prophesies, Geneology, Language differences, History, and a multitude of other subjects. Including never ending debates on these issues. I attribute this to man being man!
I enjoy the many historical aspects, but my major interest lies in the "gospel of Jesus Christ", and his message of salvation. God wants his message of salvation to be simple, and easy to understand. I'm also compelled by the Spirit to help others understand God's simple message of salvation.
2 Timothy 3:15-17
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. God Bless
Amen. I agree with you, we need to keep it simple.
Most scripture is easy to understand, if read with honesty and sincerity, and "accepted into our heart and mind as stated". God wants us to understand!
Where we run afoul, is when we ignore some scripture, or we try to make scripture mean something that is abnormal.
I agree. When dealing with Scripture, I look. To the plain meaning of the text first, as like you, I feel that the Lord God intended His words tone plainly understood without needed to look for obscure underlying interpretations or hidden meaning.
He is not a "trickster" like the devil. He said that His word is Truth. So we can believe it and trust it. We also trust the Holy Spirit to teach us all that is necessary for life and godliness, as He sanctified us through His word.
I do think is is good and appropriate to have deep thoughts on Scrpture. It is often in those times that the Spirit illuminates a Scripture for an individual to apply to their life.
But, that said, I think it wise for one to read the whole of Scripture often, to hide it in one's heart, rather than just focusing on a select few Scripture verses and viewpoints that one uses as the lens for all interpretation. There is folly in doing so. That is why I am thankful that the Lord called me to read the Bible from the age of 9. I have 50+ years of intaking of the Word and I have been richly blessed by doing so.
Likewise, I appreciate everyone's contribution here.
For me, I am always concerned about posting something that speaks untruth about our Lord, His work, or about our Christoan walk and thus lead someone in a wrong way. So, I am prayerful, and seek the Spirit's guidance because I know that on my own I would surely mess up!
I pray for those on this forum everyday.
Just think, a few months ago I did not know this forum existed! God is at work in each of us as we grow up in Christ.
I keep it simple.
May HE bless all who read this!
