Hello George. Arabic, as a language & particularly its pre-cursor (old Arabic), didn't come into existence & use till the 1st Century AD. As GiGi has written, Greek was predominantly used, though some other New Testament manuscripts used Latin, Syriac, Hebrew & even Aramaic.

As far as the Old Testament manuscripts go, Hebrew was used, yet other languages have also been used (Aramaic & Greek) as was observed in the Dead Sea Scrolls (scrolls found in various caves in the Qumran area, north-western part of the Dead Sea).

For GiGi, a little research indicates that the Targum manuscript (500 - 1000 AD), was originally given (spoken) in Aramaic, being the spoken translation of the Hebrew Bible. Aramaic was the language of the people though Hebrew was mainly used for worship & in schools. Not all Jews accepted or used the Targum writings.

    Hi George

From what I have read, the OT was originally written in Hebrew by Moses, David, Solomon, and the Prophets. In the 3rd century B.C. The Jews of Alexandria, Egypt transcribed the Hebrew text into Greek. This was called the Septuagint.

In Jesus' time and after, the Scriptures were written in Greek, as that was the common language of the area in the first century. I am not aware of any Scripture originally being written in Aramaic. But you can research that idea and find out for sure.
