Jesus suffered and died on the cross for our salvation, if I may suggest that you read Hebrews chapter 10 and it explains the necessity of Jesus dying on the cross.

    John 19:19, Matthew 27:40-42, Mark 15:30-32, 1 Corinthians 1:18, Hebrews 12:2

Hello, someone else recently asked this question as well.

I don't think there's 100% proof of one way or the other, as wood from a cross comes from a tree, so I think calling it either would be correct.

But my opinion is that it was both. Based on my Israel tour and my understanding that trees were commonly used for crucifixion, I think they carried the cross beam and nailed it to existing trees, as that is more practical than driving a vertical post into the ground from scratch each time. The horizontal beam forms an X cross on the tree which is why its called a cross. This is part speculation and opinion, not based on much evidence other than some verses calling it 'tree' like Acts 13:29.
