We shouldn't think that Isaiah was nude, completely without clothing. Instead, he only wore the inner garment customary in that day - sort of like wearing only your underwear or a nightshirt. The message wasn't nudity, it was complete poverty and humiliation. Isaiah dressed as the poorest and most destitute would dress.
i. "One need not imagine that Isaiah walked around stripped for the entire three years or that Ezekiel lay on his side for 390 days without getting up ( Ezekiel 4:9). Perhaps part of each day was used for those designated purposes." (Wolf)
ii. "Not stark naked, but stripped as a prisoner, his mantle or upper garment cast off." (Trapp)
Dear David , God bless u , u r such a gentleman and I always read and enjoy your posts very much . I do however believe that Isaiah was totally nude . In the context of Ch 20 we c that he was commanded to do so as a sign to the Israelites as to how the Ethiopians and Egyptians and possibly even the Israelites themselves would b led away naked by the Assyrians . Conquerors would do this to their captives in order to humiliate them and expose them to the elements . In Ezekiel Ch 4 I totally believe the account and that God did tell Ezekiel to lie for 390 on his left side for the iniquity of Israel and 40 days for the iniquity of Judah , a day for each year . Please don't b offended . I believe that if that's what it says then that's what happened . May God bless u more and more each day as u r a blessing to us on this site .
I can see both explanations on this, but I tend to agree with you in that, if the verse states it, then I believe it to be true unless it is obvious allegory, imagery, or symbolic.
