What was the cross made of

Hi Candido. No one can answer that with any certainty about the type of wood used for Roman crosses. The best guesses simply include the available trees in that area, & in a couple of cases of unearthing an old Roman cross, evidences of certain woods were found: namely, olive wood & acacia wood. However, pine, cedar, oak & dogwood have been given as other options. In any case, crosses certainly had to be strong, sturdy & with a long useful life as they were used multiple times in the execution of criminals, for even relatively minor infractions - the Romans were a particularly cruel regime.
